I own one and don’t have kids. One of the largest most comfortable SUV’s I test drove that looks good, is very practical and can tow 2.7Ton (try that behind your Palisade). Try driving the car in ECO, that tames the drive line down and uses the engine torque way better. The ZF 9 spd is a great box, I regularly get low 8’s on highway trips and managed 16.5l/100 the other day towing 2.5T van. If you want to go fast sink your foot and you’ve got an 8 second 0-100. Everyone that’s travelled in the 2nd row on long trips has commented how comfortable the car is and has better leg room than a 300 Land Cruiser. Also you got the service average price wrong it’s ~ $500 pa not $700 check your math. Finally tell me what’s better value that isn’t just an SUVised people mover (I got mine on the road fully loaded with options and tow bar for under $80k Ti-L)? The Pathfinder is about the only true large SUV with decent credentials and yes it would be great if it had a turbo V6 and maybe low range 4WD.
It's not a problem if the waiting time for a Rav 4 is only 1 month.😊
The Dolphin is far superior in battery technology, quality of materials, fit and finish. The interior of the Dolphin is light years ahead of the MG which has really poor plastics and finnish.
I’d be happier if they axed other models that are much worse for the environment (and air pollution in cities). The sheer number of dirty old diesel utes on Sydney roads is simply insane.
Hybrid is a foolish idea - as a hybrid owner. Double complexity and as the battery gets weaker the engine takes more stress. My engine broke. Battery is too expensive to replace.
Makes sense and with how well Toyota make their hybrids, I would go for a hybrid option anyway if I were to buy a Toyota
If you have to ask that question, why are you even a journalist in first place?
I’ve got one now. I’d have the Touareg. 😚
Time to do the same for the diesel models. The new Prado in the USA looks good in hybrid form.
Awesome move
Wouldn't it be good if any VW lasted like a Toyota ? VW make some great looking cars that are nice to drive but ,,,,,,
Sad news. But their hybrids are the best in class.
well at least you can still get the sports cars. you cant say that about a good amount of brands these days unless you want a pointless electric one. Toyota has more hybrids pound for pound than any other manufacturer globally(except Suzuki) so this isnt surprising, its basically a rationalization of their offerings in the market. Practically for the consumer it means you will have an even longer wait for a Rav4 hybrid.
With the amount of Diesel Ute's they sell they need to be able to offset its credits. Not surprising. After all they are just toyota white goods
Interesting! But they already are fuel misers.
Trash
What about tyre wearoutabilty? Seems due to added weight of battery that tyre wear is double that of non EV's?
Not true mate, sorry. This is a media myth. I own, let's call it a fast EV, and with 1 tyre rotation, and 54,000kms, not even close to buying new tyres.
@@AndrewThomson888 Thanks for that I have 2018 Koleos now and Scenic before that new in 2004, 250k when sold and still running as new with never an issue. Koleos is brilliant and love the CVT. Thinking of an EV hybrid but the EV Megane might just be the one. Just to add my Koloes is at 63k and tyres look good for at least another 15-20k.
Im curious, you managed to get a baby seat into the back seat, which other reviews have stated it was an issue. Are you able to comfortably get a baby seat behind the drivers side as well. I'm just curious since im shorter at 173. Yaris Cross vs this toyota hatch ZR, which one do you think is better.
cant wait for the review, keen on your thoughts on the cvt. My opinion is that it should have been paired with the 6 speed auto or AGS,not a fan of their cvts.
Ohh man. That's expensive for a base c8. They are like 78k now in the states.
2024 kia cerato s my 24 please
This or the cupra Leon vzx? Or nor $ for a bmw 2 series
Every time I hear about EVs getting their prices slashed it reminds me that now is the time to wait.
Mate, don’t kid yourself, the Ute is crap. Cheap price for utter crap. There’s no rivals buddy as there’s no other cheap crap Ute builder around
Sensational, thanks for the review. The lack of 22kw AC charging in Aus is annoying, though my main concern is rear leg room. But goodness it looks lovely.
Is the steering telescopic?
Great price, interesting car. I’ve always liked French cars and the design on this small SUV is attractive, some great features, others not so great. Seems practical in many respects, no frunk sadly because it’s crammed with electronics and the drive train. Appears to drive nicely and as described is comfortable. An excellent review showing a vehicle I think would work well for me/us as a second EV. I think I could live with the digital rear view, not perfect but seems perfectly adequate. Battery warranty could be better, service costs….hmmm. I like my Tesla’s service intervals. But, thanks for another excellent review, this looks like an excellent small EV.
Shit box
Comment section is full of Indian.
As a huge fan of this brand for their motorbikes. I’m hoping they live up to the justification of existing MotoGP. As their justification was to put more funds into their 4 wheeled offerings. Hopefully this is a big step in the right direction. It’s not the right car for me, however I am shopping for a new car for my soon to be 18 year old. Looking forward to the review. 👍😎🇦🇺
Thanks mate! It might just hit the spot as a first car… can’t wait to publish the review (Friday 14 June - 9pm!)
as a first car this is a good bet,its good on fuel based on the reviews published in India and Europe already(waiting on the good gentleman here's review btw) and they are pretty rock solid maintenance wise overall. New or used, take a look at a Swift, cant go wrong with it.
@@mindfreeze0838 The previous generation for me was a disappointment as even brand new it felt over 10 years old in every way. So, the upcoming review will assist in if I take one for a test drive or go with an MG4 or Yaris. The one from Toyota has cheaper services and about the same regarding fuel economy. I purchased a Yaris for my mother a couple of years ago new. It has covered just over 1,000 kilometres and I’ve possibly added a couple of hundred keeping it maintained. The service manager and I have had a laugh with its two yearly services as just based on the kilometres travelled in between works out to be around a full tank of fuel used. My strict instructions to my dear mother is not to put more than $10 in the tank due to fuels limited life. At least it will still be a great car for one of my other kids when they reach the age and it’s time for the old lady to stop driving all together. 😂
I would say it's gutless with 80 hp.
You’d be surprised…. 😮
not necessarily ,Suzuki knows how to tune their cars with one exception(but its not in this market and its a MPV so its not the most important thing being able to leap from the lights). their cars are light and their engines suit them. ive driven all their engines with the exception of the Boosterjet and apart from that one car Suzuki cars dont leave you in a lurch and ive driven the NA engines.
@therightcar Im not sure you actually answered your opening question. Since you had the diesel for many months and now had the opportunity to test the hybrid, which one would you pick? We have a GT diesel on order (end of the year exp) but have the option for a GT hybrid today and fairly on the fence on which to pick still. Thanks for the video though; very informative!!!
Thanks for that - if you want the diesel, then you should wait. Don’t compromise for the powertrain just based on it being ready earlier. I’d still choose the diesel.
LOL, my 16yogranddaughter is determined to get her manual licence
She’s a legend. 🥳
Still the the musso is the most under rated ute in the country
Imagine if it looked tougher??!
Toyota holds value better than Lexus. The only Lexus model that can hold value better than the rest of the models is RX model
Typically, yes. But mainstream brands generally better luxury makes for resale because the initial outlay is less.
$10,000 price drop Because "EV salEs arE sO sTRonG" 😂😂😂😂
This looks so good. The specs and price are decent too. Negatives are that you are buying from a distributor now and the DC fast charge speeds could be a touch better. Would I buy one? Not right now as insurance and resale are a concern. Well done Renault!
Great review as always. Thank you. The French simply won’t take advantage of the modern camera system and technology available today as it’s not their way and the quirky nature of the right hand steering wheel assortment? It’s French. Best way to sum it up. As history has shown over 100’s of years that they have a way of doing things differently. Not saying it’s bad, just different and as someone who has owned a Renault Megane RS, you do get used to it.
I quite like those door handles in the c pillar, surprised they don't put handles like that in the b pillar too
Nice review. I think I want one. I'm currently in Europe and am just amazed at the number of choices of electric cars available here.
Thanks! Yeah, Europe is a few years ahead of us. Australia will catch up with an influx of new brands due here imminently!
I'm guessing they unbanned you? Great to see ... Despite its some short comings it does work... I pick it over the ex30
Haha I may not have been banned after all! 😅
@@therightcar honestly, so glad you had the opportunity to review it! It's also great to see that they now have given unlimited K's warranty. It's definitely worth considering+ if the price continues to be right.
Super comment on the car, thank you!
Thanks!
Is the lack of "off the line" responsiveness prevalent in the Vibe's engine? I've noticed that a few turbo engines in lower price range have this issue but not in NA.
If you drive the gx model sparing rarely every going into power bar on eco mode, you should reach 3.9l/100
My 1973 Datsun pickup truck 31 10.5 15 mu d tires with shackles.went more. places. Since I grew up land Rover lr3 hse hd for me
If GWM only improves from here and works on their services & parts availability. Then they have a chance of adding themselves to the list of Go-to Asian manufacturers when it comes to cars. They'll be as popular as Kia or Hyundai. We'll see how things turn out a couple of years from now
Is Ateco now the importer?
I’ve spent two years towing around Australia, take a look through caravan parks and the highways of this country and it’s very rare to see a Amarok towing a caravan. Why? Well I met a new Amarok an owner in Charters Towers recently at a free camp. This poor guy was having no end of trouble with his new Amarok and the service he got in VW Cairns was an appalling. I felt very sorry for him.
i think its a great looking car - wish i saw more on the road
Good review looks really good, we have a Haval H6 hev and it gets about 5.8 l/100 urban driving
Engine should have had a tweak to 500nm. The rear cover should be electric not the current BS, transmission cooler should be an option.
