    I've come around to the same conclusions & opinions as "da Bear" - concerning HF products. These Quinn tools are very good, so far on all the ones in my ownership. Hand tools & sockets, not a single problem or failure. HF is getting more business from me. My only aggravation has been lack of inventory even on the 1st day of any ITC sale! 🎱😤😡 But the manager has given me "rainchecks" for some items that are being shipped, where she sees them online coming... Now, if HF EVER meets Home Depot's policy of ordering ONLINE & ship to store FOR FREE - I'd be quite pleased! 🤛😎💯

    Clicked this video because I got this same set for my off-road rig tool set. Great set, but loved how you first mentioned the case. It's twice as thick as it needs to be, therefore useless for anything other than shelve storage. If they could've made the case thinner, it would be more useful for actually transporting the tools. Or if they made the empty side, hollow, with a removable lid or hinged door, so you could store your ratchets or other tools in there, it would've been a homerun. This set, plus the ICON Locking Flex Head Ratchet 1/4" Bit Drive Set, 10mm and less sockets, plus larger 1/2" drive sockets, 19mm and larger, makes a pretty good portable tool set.

    I claimed the warranty on a Pittsburgh pass through ratchet/socket set. It was so old that the model numbers had changed. The ratchet wouldn't lock in on or off. They had no problems replacing just the ratchet. Pulled just the wrench out of a new set.

    Man I REALLY love these master sets!! It's ALWAYS bothered me that socket sets come with skips. I don't care if "it's rarely used" or that you can buy the individual sockets later if needed. For those of us who aren't professional mechanics and likely work out of the blow molded cases, it's frustrating to have skips. Keep up the great work HF....loving what they're doing lately.

    Yep i specifically returned my pittsburgh impact sockets when i realized only later the only moly knes they had were skip sizing for SAE. At the very least this bothers me OCD-style for being incomplete and at the very worst means ill be missing one at some point in the future when i need it. Will be getting the 1/4 drive set of these in the upcoming sale.

    I'm a tool snob and use mostly Japanese made socketry / hand tools, but I have the Quinn 1/2" & 3/8" impact master sets. These have held up and impressed me with the build quality. Unless space is a major issue, I default to impact for everything. I remove the box lids for both of these sets and they fit fine. I like the lifetime warranty aspect, especially for impacts. Combined that along with the low entry price (for impacts at least), it's worth it.

    Looks like a great set. I have a Klutch impact set that i like from Northern Tool. I have the Milwaukee 3/8 inch socket set that i got at Christmas time for $99 and i love it. No skips. Just bought my first Tekton tools, the TEKTON Ball End Hex T-Handle Key Set with Stand, 21-Piece (5/64-3/8 in., 2-10 mm) because it is really hard to use in tight places the "L" shaped allen keys or the sets that you fold out. Its hard sometimes to get leverage and i think these Tektons will fit the bill. thanks for the video!

I ask because I have a daughter-in-law who does most of the work on their cars. Most of her tools are discount store brands -- K-Mart, for example -- that she bought back when she was in college. It looks like a great set. It is missing the 11/32. Sunex skips that one as well. But, Tekton doesn't. If you break one, you can most likely easily replace it by taking it to HF. But if you lose one, you won't be able to just buy one socket. HF really needs to sell individual sockets. Also, those are some thick walled sockets. Sometimes that is good and sometimes that is bad. I bought the Sunex master set a while ago, so I am not in the market for these right now. Of course, I have to buy an 11/32 to keep my sets complete.

    @DKWalser

    Ай бұрын

    @@jim81143 It's not nearly as simple as you seem to believe. Your approach would address the space issue, but it would create a logistical nightmare. They would need to maintain several copies of each socket (and each wrench) HF sells. Each socket under the Pittsburg, Quinn, and Icon brands -- chrome, impact, deep, shallow, 12 point, 6 point, etc. That would be hundreds of items! Then, each store would need some method of keeping track of the number of each type of socket and would need some method of efficiently ordering more. And, of course, corporate would need some way of maintaining an inventory of all these sockets and some method of shipping the requisite number and type of sockets and wrenches. This would cost HF millions of dollars to create and maintain. Their current inventory tracking method would not work for this purpose because it's all based on retail sales. This wouldn't be part of their retail inventory. It would used for warranty replacement, not sold to customers. This is why a group of very smart people have decided it makes more sense to do what they're currently doing.

    People thay don't have problems with various impact sockets don't put them through enough use. Generally the decent to bad ones what happens fairly quickly is the metal or the temper isn't up to snuff, and you quickly wear out the impact connection point, and or the actual 6-point socket side as well, it just deforms the contact points, which starts to round off the socket side and impact side. So now they'll more easily round off softer or older/crustier bolts, and constantly be falling off the impact gun. Good ones will last a lot longer before they reach that state. Now this is more common on either the 1/2", 3/4", 1" impact guns, as they put out a ton more power than most 3/8" impacts. But it'll still happen with 3/8" as well, might take longer depending on impact gun. But with 1/2 or 3/4 high power impacts, that put out 700-1000+ Ft Lbs, you can destroy cheaper/worse sockets fairly quickly.

I’m pretty sure it’s California law that you have to honor coupons during the return policy everywhere. Sucks to have that experience

    I wouldn't say better quality..... Sunex aren't chamfered at bottom, or shouldered at the top like Quinn.... I got both sets and I'll give Quinn the win when it comes to quality and ease of warranty.

    Only bummer is, the set doesn’t span the range of Harbor Freight’s own US General 3/8” magnetic socket rails. (6mm - 20mm). This, in and of itself, would not be a huge problem, but… they also don’t even sell the individual Quinn sockets to fill up said 3/8 magnetic rail. It irks me to have 8-19mm in Quinn and then having to buy 6, 7, and 20 from another brand just to fill up the rail that they sell under one of their own brand names. I would 100% buy this set and throw the box away if I could fill the US General rail with Quinns. (Would even do the same with ICON if they had the full range) But I’ll likely end up buying the rails (bc I really want those rails for my box) and then spending more money on another brand’s sockets simply because they offer the full range of 3/8” sockets. I do, however, understand that a 6mm in 3/8 drive is not a super commonly used tool, but the rail has a spot for it. Super easy fix for them would be to sell replacement individual sockets and range them from 6-20mm. But, that’ll likely not happen. 🤷‍♂️

    I have the Milwaukee as well. The case is very thin which is nice. The sockets are very thin walled, though. They just don’t hit as hard. I found the Quinn to be a better value and heavier sockets. I keep the Milwaukee in case I need some thin walled sockets.

    At least tekton goes up to 24mm and 1" no skip. I've never understood why 99% of socket sets stop at 3/4 and 19 mm. Helped my body change a tire he has 22 mm lug nuts my tekton set had 22mm 3/8 drive. It's a car tire they're not torqued any more than 150 foot pounds you don't need a half inch drive to get 150 ft lb loose. 3/8 drive works perfectly fine. My roommate needed a 24 mm socket to change out the pulleys on the deck of his John Deere z cut, I had 24 mm again not torqued down enough where half inch drive would be necessary. The sets call themselves Master socket set but yet you stop at 19 mm and 3/4 which are the same so you're giving me two of the same socket. Just like half inch drive sets start at 8 mm some start at 10mm. There is not a 10 mm bolt torqued down even with nature's loctite that is rust a 3/8 drive 10 mm socket can't get off. The only advantage this set has is they are cr-mo where tekton is CR-V with thicker sidewall sockets to better take the impacts which makes getting them into confined spaces a little bit more difficult. I'll keep my tekton set

    Last Sunday, I returned a 3/8" Pittsburg ratchet, which was part of the $139 set. I broke the plastic on the ratchet by using a cheater bar. They opened a new $139 set and gave me the 3/8" ratchet. No fuss. No muss. I kinda felt bad that they had to break up a set.

    Think about how crowded HF's store shelves are with the items they're already selling. Now, try to imagine how much more room they would need if they tried to sell each of their sockets individually in addition to in sets. They simply don't have the room to do this (or they'd have to quit selling a lot of other things). Could they do it? Sure, if they increased the size of their stores. The folks at HF aren't dumb. I'd be gobsmacked to learn no one at corporate has run the numbers on this and determined its simply not practical.
