As usual Lei you have brought us another outstanding video. Now it may surprise you to discover that I have been a HUGE fan of the Bubble Eye. The lymph filled sacs fascinate me … everything from the histology of the sac (the tissue composition), to how the mutation was discovered, how the breed developed and to how large the sacs become.you’d think these little guys would be tired at the end of the day carrying that luggage around all the time but you just have to drop in some food and they go crazy. I also think that they are just so flipping cute. I know they are not to everybody’s taste and they can be a bit “high maintenance”for some people when it comes to aquascaping the tank, how much water movement etc. Many have argued that it’s cruel … to that I point out if the breed were seriously compromised from a health and well-being standpoint no one would breed them or buy them but they’ve been around for hundreds of years. The Chinese breeder do top view goldfish like no one else. But this poor little guy … those jowl bags have a shelf life … why why why. I get being intrigued by a mutation and the challenge of stabilizing the genes to maintain the trait through successive generations. I get it truly, but these guys have a hard enough time finding their food with all the luggage now they have these feed bags under their chins - not to mention that now they also have to deal with food not sweeping out in a timely fashion so now they have bad breath. Come on that is just one mutation to far. What more can these guys take and to top it all off they’re sideview … I mean what’s the point. These guys … no one is going to want to be inviting them to dinner. Definitely not the cool kids table either Cheers my Friend and HAPPY NEW YEAR everyone!

Awesome video. Strange looking fish like toad/frog head. They must have had side view in mind, i guess thats why the kept dorsal fin as both celestial and bubble eye lack one and are viewed from above.

The dorsal fin is because the inheritance of bubble jaw is more stable in wen-fish than in egg-fish.

Thanks Rob. Not yet to USA. Even in China, bubble jaw is a small niche market.

Interesting that they fixed this trait. I used to see a single bubble from time to time in spawns but considered it a cull as food would get stuck and a single bubble was unsightly on non-bubble eyed fish.

Great job on this! Very unique fish, it's hard enough to get any goldfish to be balanced I can't imagine trying to develop a balanced goldfish with 4 bubbles. Happy New Year to you and your family.
