"Shame On the Moon" or "Still the Same" are great if you want more laid-back Bob, but "Rock and Roll Never Forgets" is another rockin' banger. "You'll Accomp'ny Me" is also terrific. P.S. Katmandu is the capital and most populous city in Nepal. I can't speak to its nightlife these days, but Bob sure makes it seem like a great place!

    Katmandu is the capital of Nepal in the Himalayas, which for a kid from Detroit like Bob (or me) was the very definition of away from it all and a place to find some peace. This is a great track, and I think it's the first hit that put Bob on the radar for most of the rest of the US.

  • @Verlopil

    @Verlopil

    Жыл бұрын

    @@gotham61 It depends if you're using the local spelling, with an h, or the English spelling, without one. To use it with an h in English publications is a very recent change, made only within the last decade and certainly not the spelling when Seger made the song. To quote the Times when they switched over just a few years ago, "Before the switch, we had heard from a few puzzled readers who insisted that “Katmandu” was simply wrong. If only these spelling and style issues were that simple! It may seem that the preferred local spelling of a foreign place name would always be correct. But of course that’s not necessarily the case - readers in English are often more familiar with Anglicized versions. Times readers would no doubt be taken aback if we started to report on events in Roma or München."

    I became an instant mega Bob fan when I was 13/14 years old and snuck my sis's Live Bullet album when she left the house - It was the passion and emotion in his vocals for me too, his voice is velvet to my ears!! I saw him live 13 times, the first in 1977 and the last in 2019, two weeks before his final retirement tour show in Philly ~ Not hearing of him or knowing his music before 1976, I had a lot to research since he started in the mid-60s ~ Nowadays it would be simple internet searches, but in the 70s it was reading a lot of music mags and thumbing through vinyl records in the record stores ~ You really need to go back, listen to his early Detroit City garage rock, Soul and R & B ~ His Soul and R & B vocals are out of this world - Search KZread for Bob Seger and The Borneo Band ~ They were the lineup right before Silver Bullet Band.

    Mr. Seger was in tune with his Silver Bullet Band when he was on the road, but a lot of his studio work around this time was done at Muscle Shoals Sound Studio in the small but musically fertile outpost of Sheffield, Alabama, which is where he recorded seven of the nine songs on Beautiful Loser, including "Katmandu." The owners of the studio were also the musicians: Jimmy Johnson (guitar), Barry Beckett (keyboards), David Hood (bass) and Roger Hawkins (drums).

    You should see him do this one live - it's unbelievably good. But Katmandu is Nepal, so getting there would be quite the journey.

    Saw the original taping of Live Bullet, front rows on Night Moves tour and Against the Wind. He's a master!!!!! From Detroit, so check out his live there. Back in the days of old where I sat my lawn chair at the box office 48 hours before tix went on sale. It used to be real work to get great seats, but Bob? Dang! Every show lasted 30 minutes or more longer than the one before. He just kept fiving it to us. 3 encores. Gotta love Bob or you have wooden ears.

    You really should listen to the entire Bob Seger Live Bullet album. It was live at Cobo Hall in Detroit back in 1975 (released 1976) and has in my opinion the best versions of Katmandu, Travelin' Man and Beautiful Loser plus many others. He and his band were an AMAZING live act and we love him here in Detroit.

    Couldn't agree more. Grew up with Seger. My older sister saw him when he was playing at high school dances. My first 45 I bought was 2+2 in 8th grade. Been my favorite since then. So glad to see you guys enjoying him so much!!!!!

    My very first concert as a young teen was the Live Bullet concert at Cobo Hall in Detroit. I am a life long fan of Bob Seger. He was once asked about how he stays around and he straight up said he did play the pop music games. Never play the fads. Everything runs in circles. He may fade this year but he will be back when the circle comes around. He told no lies. Those that play to the dollar and to the machine are here today and gone tomorrow. Try out Fire Lake or even Her Strut. The man was a machine in the rock industry. Rick Manasa was the original keyboardist. Robyn Robbins took over in 1975. I am sure both had a hand in playing the song. The man cranked out hit after hit and I hate he is now off the road. Chevy used Like A Rock for more than a decade to sell trucks. This type of legend doesn't every die.

    I really hope you guys react to "Shame On The Moon" which is one of Bob Seger's best and most beautiful songs. It hit number two on the Billboard Pop Chart in early 1983. You will love it. "Hollywood Nights" is another great rocking song from Seger. "Katmandu" is on the soundtrack to the film "Mask" along with some other Seger songs and harder rock 70's songs. "Mask" starred Cher (in a career best performance), Sam Elliott and Eric Stoltz. You should watch this movie on your movie channel as well. Great job guys!

    In 1969 it was the Bob Seger System; in 1972 it was Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet band (till present). Most of the songs from "Live Bullet" were from his Bob Seger System albums.
