    Portals seem to be the new hotness. Will be interesting to see how well they catch on, they aren't cheap... but neither are axles. Cool to see innovation moving the sport ahead.

    I knew nothing about off-roading & zero, zilcho, nada, none, no mechanical skills 2 years ago. My personality when starting a new hobby is learn everything I can & go full force from 0 to 100 which can be good & bad. I have since rebuilt a 1999 Jeep Wrangler TJ from the ground up learning 95% from different KZread content creators. I screwed up & had to redo some things, but I have a really nice off-road rig now. I have since bought a 2020 Jeep Gladiator & did all of my own suspension including changing the ball joints, new knuckles, etc. My future goal is to put 1 tons underneath my gladiator & I am currently learning to weld on a used welder I bought. I follow you guys of course, but I also follow 74WELD & learned about portals probably 8-9 months ago. I would love to eventually afford some 74WELD portals, because not only do they help keep your factory suspension for better road handling, I like how these are installed for the best gear reduction/strength. I am sold on 74WELD as the best portals on the market. The engineer guys try to dumb it down for us newbies, but some of that stuff still goes over my head lol. But I am still learning. I do love the Currie axle products as well as I believe it may be your uncle's business RockJock. Anyway, I just wanted to let you (Casey Currie) know that I have learned a ton from your channel & think y'all sell a superior product.

    Did you have to change to an adjustable control arm with the taller springs? The Jeep looks great.

    My guess is no, but I’m sure they did anyways. 2” lift doesn’t require adjustable control arms.

    Yes I went to adjustable control arms to get the 40 centered in the wheel well. I did no trimming

    I have a JLU Diesel and am thinking about upgrading my axles. I'm just starting my research. What do you mean when you say Portal Axles? Maybe I can come to your shop for a tour and education what you have for the diesel.

    Yeah Portals! A long under-rated idea. Yeah Gladiator! But diesel? It weighs 500lbs over gas, and weight off-road is a capability killer. And the diesel has a reduced tow rating.

    I absolutely love the diesel for wheeling. The smooth power curve and lots of torque. Also the extra weight is in the front helping the jeep climb as the weight is in the front. Now for desert bombing I would agree that the weight would hurt. But that’s not what I build this for.

    @@CaseyCurrie Diesels are great for many things. I've got over a million miles in diesel-powered trucks, dozers, loaders, etc. They clearly have their place. Some competition buggies add 300lbs of water inside their front tires, but weight in the tires is way different than weight up high like an engine. And these buggies weigh less than 2000 lbs and are rear-engined. The front weighs very little without the water. The water is added to get more of a 50-50 front-to-back weight ratio. Some off-road wreckers add weight to the front of the vehicle, which hurts them most of the time, except when they have a vehicle on the hook. It allows the front tires to stay down so the wrecker can steer. However, for Gladiators and 4-door Wrangles front is already 60+% of the weight of the vehicle. if 500lbs of weight added capability to Gladiators or 4-door Wrangles there would be weight kits to add weight to the front of gas-powered ones. In the off-road sport, people will spend any amount for more capability. When a vehicle is clawing at a ledge trying to get the front up, guess what makes it harder. Weight up front. After the front wheels are up on an obstacle, 60% of the weight of the vehicle is already up the ledge. When a vehicle enters a bog hole and the front wheels sink out of sight, that vehicle is going no further without a winch. Weight up front makes it worse. Weight, almost without exception is the enemy of performance in all moto-sports. Drag racing, rock crawling, rally cars, boats, motorcycles, etc. For off-road it is why people pay extra for aluminum tie-rod kits, aluminum skid plates, aluminum wheels, aluminum bumpers, fiberglass hoods, etc. I also know that by now you have quite a bit of emotional attachment to your decisions, and no facts will convince you otherwise. I hope you enjoy the portals, they are the single best thing one can do to an off-road vehicle, well except maybe lockers. Enjoy your truck.
