Can't really have fries in a ration pack since it's all mixed with the sauce. So just plain potatoes makes sense. A proper Currywurst is fries, with the chopped bratwurst on top, the curry sauce, curry powder and some places add mayonnaise.

19:10 Pea soup is the oldest German MRE dish! It was used in the Franco Prussian war of 1870! It was an instant soup and it had no sausages….. This instant product (“Erbswurst”) was still manufactured until a few years ago….🙂

First time I saw the erbswurst as a mre component was from way back in the early days on Mrejapan's channel. Always wanted to try those knorr erbswurst tablets but has eluded me to this day lol. Shame it's been discontinued ☹

As a Berlin Vet I can tell you if you haven't had a chance to travel to Berlin and try the street foods you need to! Currywurst is and was their number one street food with Doner Kebab following close. Berlin is an awesum and fun city with gobs of history. Iche Liebe Berlin. It kinda saddens me with the fall of the wall the Berlin Brigade had to close down and we had to leave Berlin. It was a great duty station and sad more young Americans can't experience being stationed there.

In Germany the Currywurst is served like a sliced hotdog covered in Curry ketchup sprinkled with curry powder. French fries on the side with a brotchen (roll).

I was in Berlin in 2019 and Currywurst is one of the foods that I still crave.

Don't know what y'all are talking about, that brown bread in a can looks perfectly fine to me... ...then again, I grew up with German parents who became Americans. 😉 P.S. -- What's wrong with garlic? < nature's best antibiotic it is! 😋

The dynamic duo! 🥰 My friend brought my all 4 types when he served in the Bundeswehr back in the 90s. He said EPA stands for “Ekel Panik Angst” (Disgust Panic Fear). I liked them all, especially the “Griesspeise Malibu” - it was some kind of porridge with exotic fruits in it. Great review. Have a nice WE! Btw they trade here in Germany around 30€…

Before the naysayers jump on Amanda, pumpernickel is an acquired taste and European processed meat products are not for everyone. I think it was a very honest assessment based on the taste preferences of the tester.

This Ration can’t possibly get any more German than this... Erbsensuppe, Currywurst und Pumpernickel 👌😂 The fact these bags are from Erasco, brings you pretty close to original tastes how it actually should taste!

You guys finally convinced me I had to get one of these last month. You're right, pricey. And the shipping was almost as much as the ration! But they are good ones. Nice video, as always.

Looks delicious, sausage and hashbrowns were always my fav IMP in the Army, nothing beats hot sausages after a long cold day in the canadian tundra lol.

Pretty sure a soldier in the field is burning enough calories that they are able to eat this whole ration no problem.

In the U.S. MREs I used to take the cocoa pack and add the sugar and creamer pack to it and a little water to make GI pudding. If you made it a little thicker you could use it as a frosting for the pound cake

You could crush up some of the banana chips and add it to the chocolate pudding

What a difference to the ones I had thirty years ago. In every regard. It surprises me every time when somebody reviews those "new" ones. Another thing that surprises me (and makes me wondering) why there are no multi language descriptions on the items. I thought that would be NATO standard by now that at least English as a second language is used on the descriptions. @Amanda, the pea dish you mentioned could be "Schöberl" but I´m not sure because your description was to vague. And it´s originally an Austrian dish not a German.

The biscuits are called "armour plates".

greetings from Germany. Nice video and nice review. the Bundeswehr has changed the supplier for the mains from Busse (the rectangle containers) to Erasco (the brown pouches). Erasco is well known in Germany for canned food like stews, soups and stuff like that. It is interesting that they keep the company name on the mains. I think the pouches are not so smart for the soldier, because he has to heatened them up in his messkit instead of putting the old style mains directly on his stove. Not all EPa has the buscuits. I had 2 boxes without the biscuits now. One hint for you: you put to much water into the dessert and you have not stirred it enough. Less water would be better and stirr the dessert until it gets a tougher. Then it will be great. The price is very high. The EPa were sold for 30 - 35 € + shipping If you have some luck you get them cheaper.

@@blarfroer8066 it depends on the personal equipment of each soldier. this contains a personal cooking set with cups to cook and heat up water and a small reusable stove for fuel tablets. Many other nations provide a single use stove that you have to fold out of a metal part with some fuel tablets. so some nations use the FRH some have an option with stove and fuel tablets. by the way, one famous sentence about the German EPA is, that the food taste equal "good" if it is hot or not

@@blarfroer8066 over decades, the main meals were not delivered in retort pouches. This new change might cause some changes in future for the EPA. As the US Army did it for the US MRE, the German Army changes things in the EPA to improve it. It often feels, that is tradtion to sit down, have a rest with a smale fire for the German soldier. So the option with the stove worked well. The change to retort pouches, hm I was personally surprised about it. It is not impossible that the FRH may come in the future, or they switch back to the old style package.

@@nielskoester4065 I know all of that. Still, they started using retort pouches with the interim rations from France and now they completely went for them and still don't supply frh. Ukraine switched from cans to retort pouches and immediately added frh.

The wurst is yet to come.

you should open the "EPA's" in proper style with the infamous "German Swiss army knife". ;))) Famous for not even being able to cut a ripe banana with it and at the same time a KILLER WEAPON if the saw's protective cap is missing

Also...we traded 3 MREs for one, but you had to find an inexperienced soldier to make the trade...

Americans love it super sweet And it shows in this taste test. No wonder there's a lot of obesity in the US. Original American products wouldn't sell in Germany as people here do not like at all if it's sweetened over the top.

From this year on the EPA will have a new name. It is changed in ……. EPA. 😂. Seriously the changed it from „Einmannpackung“(=OneManPaket) in „Einpersonenpackung“(OnePersonPaket) In german it is the same short form.🤷🏼‍♂️

don ´t forget that the Bundeswehr made a contest to find this new name. The winner got 10 EPa ;-). One important point for the suggested names was that the short "EPa" could be used with the new name. Under this condition, Einpersonenpackung and to have a name for all genders - this was without alternatives.

The Landsers of the Bundeswere I served with didn't call them EPAs..they called them "Ay-Packs". If you want a real review, get 40% of needed sleep, have a high physical load, be cold and wet...and a draftee...

A great review I laughed a lot which is good Camera work sucked but thats all OK too I can tell Amanda would not make it the field eat rations I say that with a smile I sometimes had problems myself!!!

Wow folks, what a giant ration lol. Germany... I live about 70 km = 45 miles away from the German border. And Peaspoup ok? I cooked it myself around new years. I promise you, it's full of onion haha... didn't notice? Yes, expensive and huge MRE :-)

You'll pate' in almost all European MREs. Pate' is universally favored in all of Europe. Pate' is little known and little liked in the United States. The closest American food item to European pate' is devils food meat spread and its competitors. And it's still not quite the same.
