Hi, a few tips: For the soup, way too much water, it's a ration of one cup, next time I advise you to put the amount of water about a little more than 2/3 of a cup, the soup will be thicker, more flavour and less "funcky weird" For cans, I advise you to open less than a third of a can, not the whole can as usual, it will heat like in a steam oven and will be hot much faster.

'would this be better cold?' 'Hell no!' Well, I think I eaten more rations cold than hot. That's why every soldier carries their favorite hot sauce. For me it was Tabasco. That's how we ate rations hot.

Here (Royal Netherlands Army) when they changed from the eighties rations to the freeze-dried stuff the first thing to go was taste and nutrition. We always traded the French for their warm meals and the Mediterranean countries for their fish and fruit. Never got the Italians to part with a complete 24 hour ration they always kept their liquor. But most southern European rations were too small for us anyway, German and Scandinavian rations were the right size for us.

Gizzards, at least in France, are most of the time confit. That's why it's similar to pressure cooking. We have a long tradition of using confit to preserve food. Duck as an example... :)

On the matches pack it is the Eiffel Tower and the Arc de Triomphe. (The Arc de Triomphe honors those who fought and died for France in the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars, with the names of all French victories and generals inscribed on its inner and outer surfaces. Beneath its vault lies the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier from World War I)

I was raised eating a chicken stews with gizzards and hearts. My mon lived on a farm in Canada as a child during the Great Depression. They did not waste any part of an animal that could be eaten. The trick to eating gizzards and hearts is to bring to a light boil very slowly, if you don’t they become very chewy not pleasant to eat.

I know . You chop up gizzards and add the to your poultry gravy, for the best gravy any potato would be happy to have poured on them. Or you fry the gizzards and add to scrambled eggs that and add some onions and hot sauce you got Sunday morning breakfast.

Church's chicken, I know it's not everywhere, but if you have one, GIZZARDS if you like them, hit the patience button, they make them fresh, but go in and ask for fried gizzards. You have to wait, but it's worth it, they cut them out and make them FRESH. Southern white guy here, my ex got me on them "why does it take a half hour to get our food?" Because they're MAKING them from scratch, shut up. Ah, well then. Worth the wait. And they're not expensive, despite the "specialty" nature of having to do all that. 6 piece was like 4 bucks, it's throwaway meat OH YOU WANT GIZZARDS? Hell that usually goes in the trash!

So the nougat bars, they start all airy and light and as they age they become darker....or at least the fruit does, from a fresh fondant with a hint of fruit to a darker fruit cake sort of taste.....but tbh I don't think they can ever go bad due to the sugar content. I enjoy both but it's a great I dictator of the age of the ration......MREs have TTI indicators, RCIRs have nougat bars, both work the same way, the darker the older.

Chocolate muesli, tashonka and kasha, coffee, tea, biscuits/crackers, cheese, pate, jam, electrolyte beverage powder, peanut butter,.nougat and fruit bars, etc, etc. Many of the Mare's seem to always have some basic items in there that is repeated everytime and once you've tried it, unless you get from another nation, it is generally the same.
