Hi, a few tips: For the soup, way too much water, it's a ration of one cup, next time I advise you to put the amount of water about a little more than 2/3 of a cup, the soup will be thicker, more flavour and less "funcky weird" For cans, I advise you to open less than a third of a can, not the whole can as usual, it will heat like in a steam oven and will be hot much faster.
damn the frech army eats like kings
Not liking onions is pretty unique. Onions are a major part of many cuisines.

Not liking onions is pretty unique? no its not i despise onions, the smell, taste texture/ cooked and uncooked. it is not uncommon onions are divisive.
On the box of Gesiers there is a note "consume cold" it is a salad. Cheese is intended to be heated and melted on a cracker.
'would this be better cold?' 'Hell no!' Well, I think I eaten more rations cold than hot. That's why every soldier carries their favorite hot sauce. For me it was Tabasco. That's how we ate rations hot.

I enlisted in MCRD San Diego in June 1987, USMC. Back then we had the dark brown MRE's. The French do feed their Troopers well!:) Tabasco was a Godsend, for sure! Semper Fidelis

Here (Royal Netherlands Army) when they changed from the eighties rations to the freeze-dried stuff the first thing to go was taste and nutrition. We always traded the French for their warm meals and the Mediterranean countries for their fish and fruit. Never got the Italians to part with a complete 24 hour ration they always kept their liquor. But most southern European rations were too small for us anyway, German and Scandinavian rations were the right size for us.

Remember the "Four Fingers Of Death"? 😉
I have had the older menu with the pork cheek and I was really impressed. I know they have the cold salads but I always preferred them warmed up. I have not got to try the cheese been wanting to. I am hoping some future menus I try have it. Awesome Review.
It’s the “Arc de triomphe” was begun construction in 1806, on the orders of Napoleon to honour the victories of his Grande Armée.
17:20 +1 on the gizzards and quinoa salad! Had it cold and I was quite impressed. One of the best MRE entrees I've ever tasted. Fresh taste, excellent texture and color. A real hit! Why can't our MREs be half this nice?
Gizzards, at least in France, are most of the time confit. That's why it's similar to pressure cooking. We have a long tradition of using confit to preserve food. Duck as an example... :)

Gizzards in my part of the US mean one thing, thanksgiving gravy. giblet gravy is the neck, heart, liver, and gizzards of the turkey.
On the matches pack it is the Eiffel Tower and the Arc de Triomphe. (The Arc de Triomphe honors those who fought and died for France in the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars, with the names of all French victories and generals inscribed on its inner and outer surfaces. Beneath its vault lies the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier from World War I)
Out here we use gizzards as fish bait! 😀

You buy from Serge to?! Awesome dude!!! He is very quick with his shipping. I highly recommend him!
The French rations are like a party in a box. Haven't tasted these new ones yet, but it looks like the contents haven't changed much - which is not a bad thing at all.
Hi Nathan! Really good MRE review! I would really enjoy this one! 👍😎
i've even see pro chefs compliment french mre's, gonna have try one just for grins and giggles
The fondue is supposed to be heated up
Weird about the onion thing! Onions are the basis for so many dishes
Looked like some very interesting items. Most of them I would have eaten without hesitation. Great vid 👌

Thank you for sharing this great experience rivers
I live in the Midwest and I worked in a Chinese restaurant that did fried chicken gizzards in cashew sauce (definitely more like a gravy and definitely not traditional Chinese food) but I could never get a taste for them. The texture is what I don't enjoy. But this actually looked pretty good. Great video as always. I can't get enough of these MRE videos.

This one looks soooooooo good. 💯🔥🥰
You were killing me with your reaction to garlic 😂
Looks great 👍
I was raised eating a chicken stews with gizzards and hearts. My mon lived on a farm in Canada as a child during the Great Depression. They did not waste any part of an animal that could be eaten. The trick to eating gizzards and hearts is to bring to a light boil very slowly, if you don’t they become very chewy not pleasant to eat.

I know . You chop up gizzards and add the to your poultry gravy, for the best gravy any potato would be happy to have poured on them. Or you fry the gizzards and add to scrambled eggs that and add some onions and hot sauce you got Sunday morning breakfast.
You and Philipp make a good team! 👍🙂
I know I am way behind the times but the soup packet did say 1/4 de litre or one quarter of a litre which is 250 ml. I am by no means as experienced as you are with rations but all of the French rations and the Australian ones too have requested 250 ml.
New RCIR. You can't go wrong with a French RCIR! Great review Nathan.

you can get wrong if you don t cook it as you have to . Salad cold and the other dishes warm . It s simple if it s written salad on the can it s cold in other cases it s warm you cook a carott salad or tomatoes salad ????
Hi Nathan, hi everybody, try barley opening the mains then cook em might heat better, "how you liking that new knife"?
Not one for me I am afraid, wonder how long it will stay in rotation?
Church's chicken, I know it's not everywhere, but if you have one, GIZZARDS if you like them, hit the patience button, they make them fresh, but go in and ask for fried gizzards. You have to wait, but it's worth it, they cut them out and make them FRESH. Southern white guy here, my ex got me on them "why does it take a half hour to get our food?" Because they're MAKING them from scratch, shut up. Ah, well then. Worth the wait. And they're not expensive, despite the "specialty" nature of having to do all that. 6 piece was like 4 bucks, it's throwaway meat OH YOU WANT GIZZARDS? Hell that usually goes in the trash!

I'm glad there's still Western countries/cultures out there that eat offal meat. Seriously underrated stuff, and super flavorful and tasty if prepared properly. It's a crying shame that we don't really eat that kinda stuff anymore here in the US.

looks good bro!
I don't know if hou have noticed it, but the "salades" has to be eaten cold, it's written on the box
These are on.my watch list around £20 delivered from ebay well worth it from what I've seen here.
The camera work may be better with less zooming and movement, may also work better for the focus issues? Otherwise nice video and that meals does look nice. I want to try that cheese. :D
The Cheese should have been heated, the flavour changes as it becomes fondue. The gizzards should of been left cold, there is dressing in there as it is salad, you heat it it impairs the flavour Good review, l like your no messin attitude!
$14 for the mre , $60 to ship. 😯
Interesting menus indeed
So the nougat bars, they start all airy and light and as they age they become darker....or at least the fruit does, from a fresh fondant with a hint of fruit to a darker fruit cake sort of taste.....but tbh I don't think they can ever go bad due to the sugar content. I enjoy both but it's a great I dictator of the age of the ration......MREs have TTI indicators, RCIRs have nougat bars, both work the same way, the darker the older.
Missing the good old wine.
French MRE... the best ! 😎🍻👌
Did anybody else read the 2023 in the title and think to themselves "Shit how much did I oversleep today?"
i checked his Site $260 just for shipping on an $80 MRE is way too much
I'm French and I'll paraphrase a quote from Asterix the Gallic : "The more powerful the armies, the worse the food. It keeps the warriors in a bad mood." ... I didn't think the US military was so powerful! " Or "I didn't think the French army was so weak!"😉
Kenoa and gizzards....Mmmm just like mom used to make.
Your the first person I’ve heard saying they don’t like garlic 😲 I love garlic 🧄

Gerber, bad, in general. Love the MREs, though.
You can take the "leftovers" and use them to make an international meal review. Chocolate muesli, tashonka and kasha, coffee, tea, biscuits/crackers, cheese, pate, jam, electrolyte beverage powder, peanut butter,.nougat and fruit bars, etc, etc. Many of the Mare's seem to always have some basic items in there that is repeated everytime and once you've tried it, unless you get from another nation, it is generally the same.
One of the few ration videos I’ve seen where someone is eating a ration that has not reached the best before date😂

Quinoa is not very tasty, tbh. BUT it's a remarkable food item, it packs a lot of energy, compared to rice or wheat or corn so i can totally understand why you would find it, there.

I don't like the texture of Gizzards and hearts. I usually throw them to the barn cats or use them for fish bait... Now chicken livers, I love!

We, french people, call this industrial food... That is, it's not "good" 😱 It's just up junk food, you know. But I understand, having traveled a lot, why anglo-saxons and other peoples like it. 😋

For God sake, why do you persist to warm up salads ?? There is a vinegar/lemon sauce inside, it's disgusting if you warm it up ! It's like warming up lettuce... It makes no sens ! Please for once, try it cold !

anglo saxon have a big problem with food in general and cooking specialy . a salad must be eaten cold without cooking . That s not good if it s warm . Please it s a pity to see you eating "salade de gesier" warm . It s written salad on the can so you eat it cold
Who came up with the combination of citrus and mint. OMG! It’s a horrible combination.
Man... that's some pretty serious genetic misfortune if garlic tastes "skunky" to you. I can't imagine certain foods without that flavoring, it's like it would cut out a huge part of the culinary world if I didn't eat anything with it! :/

The only thing I like better than garlic is more garlic . There is a restaurant in Russia where there is garlic with every course even the ice cream. I have garlic powder, granules and purée which I add to many instant meals to give them a flavour boost. It may be just as well that I live on my own.
You are silly. A bit sad.
On the match pack on the other side is "The Arch de Triumph", I hope no French people are watching this. You really used too much water in the coffee plus you left the plastic spoon in it to steep, making it taste like plastic. You are not a smart person, are you?
This one looks soooooooo good. 💯🔥🥰
