Hi! My name is Leonie and I am a 25 year old girl who loves talking about books! From YA to non-fiction to classics, I read it all (although fantasy will always be my fave). I live in the Netherlands and go to university, but make booktube videos in my spare time :)

I basically live vicariously through other book creators who do book hauls since I have put myself on a temporary book buying ban. So I am very happy that you posted hehe 😁

same! and in the mean time i also got more recommendations. it’s a win win if i say so myself 😂
It's so refreshing to watch a book haul that doesn't include +50 books. Your content helps me control myself while book shopping 🙈

As an Italian student who was forced to read Dante's inferno and is so fed up with it, i get confused when someone says he/she's gonna read it for fun... All the same it's a good story and extremely original for the time it was written. I hope you enjoy it 😊

I read Dante’s inferno when I was 16 and fell in love with it. I was so very excited to talk about it so I texted my Italian friends expecting them to be as excited but they had no interest in it, I’m still disappointed lol But I understand, studying it for years in high school must be annoying :)

As an audiology student, I love to see hearing protection being promoted! These look super cute too, I’ll have to try them out! Thank you for sharing ❤
I was literally looking for book content and my favorite creator posted 😭 ily
i love that you’re trying out more of og boba flavours!! as a taiwanese person i always love to see people in the west try versions of boba that aren’t as westernized :) i’d recommend getting the standard boba with normal tapioca pearls or brown sugar boba, to me they feel more authentic

LOVE deckled edges! It feels like home and feels nostalgic. I think because it reminds me of reading A Series of Unfortunate Events as a kid and that being my first tiptoe into liking darker things. Love your channel so much btw. It's my favourite thing to do while eating lunch.

When she brought up deckled edges I also thought of A Series of Unfortunate Events! It was one of the handful of series I was really obsessed with as a kid so I also find the deckled look to be nostalgic feeling.
Leonie I bartend in America, so I am always a day late for your videos because of my work schedule, but man do they bring such a smile to my face, thanks for your great content girl
Hi! This is such an incredible video, because it is a haul, but you've also already read quite few of the books, so it still has that "if you want it, buy it, but only if you'll read it later" as opposed to just "if you want it, buy it", which is very comforting. And the video is also cosy, as always 🍂📚 Thank you!!
Loved this sustainable haul! Books mentioned: Book Lovers by Emily Henry (she read it and really liked it) Babel by R.F. Kuang (she read it, liked it) Shiver by Junji Ito (spelling may be wrong) Serious Concerns by Wendy Cope (poetry) We have always lived in the castle by Shirley Jackson (dark classic) The opposite of a person by Lieke Marsman (a Dutch poet) The Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri (fun fact, it's pronounced Alighieri with a hard g like the one in "get") A Room of One's Own by Virginia Woolf The Switch by Beth O'Leary Slewfoot by Brom Gothicana
We Have Always Lived in the Castle is spooky, eerie, mysterious and a beautifully quick read! Highly recommend for spooky season 👻🖤✨
girl im italian and i barely understand dante's writing lol it's different enough from modern day italian that we also need to paraphrase it when we study it in school
I love book hauls! I have no self-control when it comes to book buying.
we have always lived in the castle is a great thought piece about the demonization of women, as well as their relationships to other women and how they play out when men intrude on those spaces. really cool book. i loved it a lot! also deckled edges are a lasting aesthetic aspect to books from the way paper used to be produced. it used to be that deckled edges were preferred because it was a symbol of having the wealth to manufacture paper traditionally rather than when industries made the process faster and more uniform! i personally really love the vintage feel it gives !! ♥️ love ur videos thank u for brightening my day :)

hahahha absolutely living my best life watching u discover all the little extras I put in the book ❤ hope you’ll love slewfoot as much as I did !!!!
Perfect timing! 💕Yesterday I struck gold at a used book sale and did a little haul for my friends lol. (Also, I have loop earplugs and they’re so great for concerts and busy environments😊)
So happy you’re sponsored by Loop! I love their earplugs, the ones for the day are so practical in noisy spaces just to stay sane and calm, and the other ones are so comfy to sleep in 🤩
omg gothikana sounds equally thrilling and horrifying, I can't wait for you to read it and tell us all about it! I personally HATE when a book isn't properly proofread but that story sounds so compelling haha.. hope you enjoy all your new books, or, alternatively, rant to us about them :D
I learned to love and prioritize reading for private enjoyment and edification again from you and other Booktubers! Thanks, Leonie, and have a great week!
Omgggg i real-life cheered when you revealed Slewfoot LOL. i think i recommended it in the comments of an old video, with no expectations that you'd for sure see the comment but to see that the universe has worked out to bring it to you anyway is SO EXCITING. i really think you're going to *love* it 😁🖤🖤🖤
Hope you enjoy all your new books! Love the cosy autumnal vibes ☺
The switch may just be what i need now, sounds really wholesome ❤
That "Dante AliGIeri" killed me as italian ahahahah but don't worry people says worst🤣
i absolutely love deckled edges, 💛, and really liked your video & the coziness of it ✨
i think you would really enjoy dappermouth’s art if you aren’t familiar with them already. her art always has the perfect spooky atmosphere
I just want you to know that your videos makes me so happy, thank you for this
I was just watching old videos from you (bingewatching actually), so this video comes at the perfect time :D
I read We Have Always Lived in the Castle this year and I basically knew exactly what you do before starting it - well, let me just tell you: there's no castle and barely a family but dark cottagecore describes it perfectly and I think you will really like it even though it's very weird 😄
I agree. Deckled edges >>> Sprayed edges. I will die on this hill.
slewfoot is amazing! one of my favorite books of all time 💗
I'm reading Babel now, and loving it! Nice earplugs. I have a couple especially made for me as I cant stand ordinary ones, so uncomfortable. They are as you say a life saver 🥰🥰
I love deckled edges! They feel very vintagey to me 😊
I really like The Orange as well! Such a straightforward and quietly beautiful poem. In addition to reading The Orange for the first time a few years ago, I think I read a couple of Wendy Cope's poems (as Finnish translations) in my teens; maybe I'll read some more in the future :)
Hii Leo, I love your videos so much! Such cozy vibes 💕 Also, I'm really enjoying your omori playthroughs, I get scared when things get dark but I still love the game😂
I love deckled edges!
Continue shining, Leoni! Loved the fun-filled video, as always! ❤️
Slewfoot looks so awesome. I might look into it!! I loved the cover ❤️❤️ also, dark fantasy is my fav soo
I got recommended bable when I was talking to this small business bookstore owner when buying books, the staff are so nice there
I recommend reading Winter Ghosts by Kate Moss, involves people from 1300s I think? And a small village! And a ghost. It’s very atmospheric & a perfect winter read (as what the title suggests 😂)
I have few copies of deckled edge books and they are gorgeous. It gives hint of vintage feeling to them, and since mine's are Ilad and Odyssey, it is just perfect. But as it got older sometimes they are getting messier? if you know what I mean. I'm now reading 'Piranesi' and it is awesome. You recommended this book in multiple videos and I wanted to try it. And I see why you mentioned that so many times. By the way, 'The room of one's own' is one of my favorite books. Yes, it is 100yrs old, but you know what? something's never changed. Her text is so gentle and also pierce at the same time. Hope you have fun(or feel angry) while reading it.
Girl you’re gonna love A room of one’s own 💕
I loooved Slewfoot 😍 I just read it. The audiobook is great as well, there’s a beautiful signing part. Enjoy !
I love deckled edges so much (though I didn't know the name of them and have been calling them "corrugated edges" for like 3 videos now 😅). I love your bookhaul and you're making me want to buy some Junji Ito!
Very excited to hear your thoughts on slewfoot!
I absolutely loved Babel, glad you did too. I’m hoping to get A Secret History read by the end of the year as well. ❤ your book haul.
I love Beth O’Leary, and The Switch is heartwarming, cozy, and fun. Hope you love it!
you are officially my favorite booktuber. 💕 start w "we have always ...castle!!"
I read we have always lived in the castle for Halloween an it’s one of my new favs!!! It has Tim Burton Coraline vibes🖤🖤🖤
I am indifferent towards deckled edges. Sprayed edges will always be my favourite.
definitely relate to my native-English friends hating a book due to misspellings whereas I, Spanish reader, did not have any kind of problem LOL
would you do a video recommending ya books of different genres? love ur vids!!
I wear loops at spin class 🚴 they’re perfect and I love them
Shiver and Slewfoot really caught my eye 👀🙊
Wow, we are reading all the same books! I’m listening to the audiobook of Book Lovers, I just bought Babel, and I have Shiver on hold at the library. Just in the last week, I finished We Have Always Loved in the Castle and The Haunting of Hill House and have just started Dark Tales (all by Shirley Jackson). I’m love her work and really looking forward to what you think!!!
loveeee a good book haul ! gives me booky ideas ! : )
I’m already getting bookshelf envy 😂❤
omg i’m reading belladonna rn! i’m enjoying it a lot :)
I want to read Belladonna so so badly!
I like soft deckled edges, so there's still a bit of difference in the page size, but the differences aren't particularly pronounced.
good haul - read it in good health. I spent it tom and dave/ they made me laugh/ they each ate a quarter/ and I got a halve!
If you enjoy Slewfoot, the novel Krampus, also by Brom is one of my favorite winter/Xmas type books. I reread it every year.
Ooh, I have two volumes of that Penguin Great Ideas series, too: Tolstoi's Confession (1882); and last year I preordered their volume of an abridged version of Kropotkin's manifesto-like Anarchist Communism, from the French La Conquete du Pain (1892)'s revised English publication of 1913. I hope to collect more of these volumes, too! As well as from the Oxford University Press Very Short Introduction volumes.
I'm going to highly recommend your Channel to my friends! I love you sooo much!
I think I have the same edition of Babel :D. Still need to read it though. I sooo agree with "Halloween is over but fall isn't" November is a fall month, and a spooky month. It's when most scorpios are born like come on:D Yeeeees, We Have Always Lived in the Castle!! I read it last year and loved it. My copy has deckled edges too but a different cover. Same edition of A Room of One's Own too haha:D The Penguin Great Ideas are neat editions.
I love your relaxed and joyous approach to reading, it is really infectious. :) Just wanted to leave two thoughts: 1. I actually was surprised to see that although modern feminist discussions have moved on quite a bit since then (obviously) Woolf‘s essay contains a lot of modern thoughts and didn’t seem outdated at all to me. Since you specifically mentioned it, if I remember correctly, at one point she points out the many ways in which she is privileged thus including a kind of intersectionality that I didn’t expect. If anything made me struggle with this work it was Woolf‘s stream-of-consciousness style which just isn’t my cup of tea, but other than that it was a surprisingly modern read. (There is a grandiose video of Fiona Shaw reading a part of the essay which lives in my heart and head rent free!) 2. I wondered if you have ever considered reading something by Marieke Lucas Rijneveld? They are a young Booker prize winner and I adore their work. I’m not sure if it’s thematically up your alley, but I would read a shopping list written by them. Just a recommendation. :)
On the topic of witchcraft (supernatural stuff in general) check out Master and Margarita by Bulgakov. It’s so much more than that actually, as it deals with philosophy and I’d say provides a satirical view on christianity, so it’s not an easy read. It’s also classic and one of my favourite books ever! 🖤 I believe Rory Gilmore read it at some point as well 🙃
This video was really good. Some great books covered.😊
Slewfoot is one of my favourite books of the year. So excited to know what you think 🥰
So I can aesthetically appreciate a deckled edge, but in terms of reading experience I find them very inconvenient since it makes it harder to flip through the pages so I tend to not buy them because they sort of annoy me. But I do acknowledge that it looks pretty.
Where can I buy this mushroom cardigan? It’s so cute 😍
Aaaaaa i love gothikana
omg where’s your cardigan from??? it’s so cute!!!
If you still like the whole Dark Academia thing you should definitely consider reading „If we were villains“ by M L Rio (if you haven’t yet?) - I’d loooove to hear your opinion! 😍 And These Violet Delights by Micah Nemerever - this one gets really deep into the human psyche tho 👀
I recently bought some new books because I was ill last week, so this is great timing haha 📚

Good health to you
Excited for you to read We have always lived in the castle aaaa
I don't know if you know the tumblr meme with "Goth uncle anime legs" but that's Gerald Brom when he was like 20 yo. That man is the proof that goth is not a phase and has done art for a bunch of videogames and movies like Doom, Diablo, Sleepy Hollow and Van Helsing. My idol the OG
Deckled edges are so much harder to grip, especially while struggling with a post-surgery wrist brace right now. I would rather skip the book than read a deckled edge. (Also an absolute nightmare for attracting and trapping cat fur) One of my fav books from last year is published with a deckled edge and I literally looked up videos on how to straighten deckled edges this morning. 😂I might buy a copy and slice it myself
I have the same copy of we have always lived in the castle. Although it looks nice, it gets really dirty and it's hard to clean 😭
I like deckled edges but not necessarily on books. Cards, tags, journals are nice with the deckled edges.
Hi Leonie ! Such a nice video ! I read Well Met By Jen DeLuca thanks to you and it became one of my favorite romances ever ! I was wondering, have you read the other books by the author ? They take place in the same town during the Renaissance Fair! If you’re looking for small town romances, it might be cool ! :) I haven’t read the next book yet but I plan to do in the Spring. Have a nice week ❤️
i'll watch it after school... but cute thumbnail!! ✨🫶🏻
Slewfoot is calling my name, I’ve added it to my book wish list with just what you said. Would you mind talking about it a bit when you’re done reading it? Thank you so much if you do so!
We Have Always Lived in the Castle is great! definitely spooky and has some cool themes around gender roles, madness, and isolation
i dont like deckled edges bc they make it harder to flip the pages and flip through the book. i think decorations shouldn't make the book harder to read
@kaiju_k5042
Жыл бұрын
Interesting, I think I tend to flip from top of the page so never had an issue with that.
oh definitely, deckled edges >>>
Awesome book haul loved this vlog
Great book haul! Junji itos works are great. I will say i disagree tho that manga isn't widespread yet...it actually has been, mainly among Many Asian identified folks like me who grew up on it as kids. I am noticing however that it is reaching more of the "mainstream" book community
I click the video when i saw Babel. 🥰 My fav.
Your videos make me so happy jaizkzbsososjs😭❤️❤️❤️
First time of using a discount code for a sponsorship, but I'm very courious if the loopplugs will work for me. Babel was such an amazing reading experience for me.
i did have a great time watching it ;) Honestly I ALWAYS have
Slewfoot made me cover buy it. It's a handsome looking book. 😅
BROM also makes art for Magic the Gathering cards :)
I've just watched the movie adaptation of We Have Always Lived in the Castle recently. It's a good movie. I haven't read the book though, but I'd like to read it someday.
Gothikana is such a cute book, I loved it. It brought me into dark academia books 😂❤ Emmie is kinda dramatic about not liking it,in my opinion. It’s all silly😂
The ONLY reason I haven't read We Have Always Lived in the Castle is because I can't find an edition that doesn't have deckled edges !! I like it aesthetically, but for me it just makes turning through the pages so much more difficult, & I hate the feel of it
Deckled edges: 👍🏼
I'm curious to see if you like Gothikana (not sure I spelled it right), I'm pretty sure I have it on my shelf and haven't picked it up yet.
I kid you not i squeeled when i saw you posted a new video
1:44 is that by any chance the Mayflower bookshop in Leiden (The Netherlands)? I feel like I recognize that place haha
