The same thing happened in the Twilight community when Hot Topic decided to start selling merch again. Lionsgate went after fan shops and it was brutal. The LotR community should buckle up.

The early seasons of RvB were indeed filmed in Halo 1 multiplayer. They ended up filming sections in in-game multiplayer and sections in original animation throughout many of the seasons later on, so you are correct but the series started out the way you describe

Just a quick note on Red vs Blue's status as a story: the real ending was either on Season 10 or Season 13 Those are a good stopping point for the story, as after S14, the original creators & writers left the series and it became one of those franchises the network just wouldn't let die, dragging them out as long as they can. This is not a critique of the later seasons, but the last episode of S13 is called "The End" for a reason.

100% this. The movie is a barely adequate coda, essentially the original creators saying goodbye to the franchise and the company, and I think it's only worth watching if you're a completionist. S13 had the best thematic ending of almost any show I've seen, and S10 had an equally appropriate ending from the perspective of narrative constructed after S5.

Almost every Beowulf film adaptation we've gotten has been "what if Grendel was sympathetic?" Can we just get classic beowulf? With epic themes and heroic fantasy at the forefront? Give me a tolkien-flavored Beowulf movie PLEASE! I've already seen the sympathetic cannibal ogre now I want Beowulf.

If you have the mental bandwidth given everything going on, the DND community could use more coverage of the scummy, anti-consumerist policies being undertaken (AGAIN) by Hasbro via DND Beyond. They’ve already undertaken the first steps in what will likely be a more subtle, quiet crusade to squeeze money from their consumers, disable competition and overall make the hobby less easily-accessible and enjoyable, particularly for new or low-income players. Any pressure that can be applied is hugely appreciated! Great episode, Thomas kills it as usual.

Last time I saw Thomas... he kidnapped Daniel 🤣

I wonder if Grendel will be based on the incredible John Gardner novel of the same name which told the story from the monsters POV. That’d be cool!

you can tell thomas is your brother as you both have the same mannerism when you are trying to be serious but can't and you both have the same cheek bone movement when you smile.

There was an interesting sci-fi take on Beowulf called Outlander, featuring both John Hurt and Ron Perlman in supporting roles; not to be confused with the time-travel series of the same name. It is a solid movie, that is for some reason under appreciated.

A thing that really burg me about The Hunt for Gollum is that there is no source material other than Aragorn and Gandalf mentioning it 2 or 3 times. There is nothing in the way of dialogue, important scenes that just have to be included or meaningful character archs. I would not mind a spin off like this happening in a franchise that was written by several people and with the intention to tell several stories in. But Middle Earth isn't such a place. Tolkiens world in so much a product of the man's philosophy, live experiences and religious beliefs that I highly, highly doubt that anyone could tell an original story in Middle Earth that feels like it fits there.

Like Alan Lee is fine, his art is fine, but this could be a great opportunity to spotlight a different artist who hasn't done it all before. It could be a selling point like no only is there new art, but its art from an upcomer in the illustration field.

I wasn’t a huge fan of the animated Beowulf movie, so I’m excited but super nervous about this new movie! I just finished my degree in medieval literature so I know I’ll be a bit snobby about any adaptation, but it just feels like a huge story to tackle 🙈

The thing about the Gollum movie is, it's fanfiction... that isn't written by fans, but driven by quest for money. It fundamentally is driven by the wrong incentives.

Only Empire of Silence is being re-released in hardback so far, but the subsequent ones can be re-released if it sells well enough (according to the author).

Details on the Barad-dur LEGO set were leaked back in April.

Pop Culture Detective did an analysis of Barbie, very clearly fair use and it was removed. I see it’s back up now, but the whole thing is so ridiculous, it’s clearly allowed film criticism.

Gotta say, I did not think of Daniel as someone with 'having a brother' energy. More like...one older sister who he wasn't close with, and then as adults, they bonded and became close against some kind of shared adversity.

Red vs Blue was fantastic but it ended with season 13. I didn’t mind s14 as a cute little epilogue comprised of short stories. Season 15 made me very worried, season 16 was something you just can’t come back from :(

Thomas seems like a fun, lovely person and I'm trying my hardest not to judge him for liking the motion capture abomination from Zemeckis. Grendel's mother has high heels 🙄 and Beowulf's naked fight where things always happen to cover "that part" belongs in a parody movie.

Loved the Neil Gaiman take on Beowulf, and the original poem can be considered one of the ur-texts of fantasy, so I'm excited for a new adaptation.
