Reminds me of a Viking dying saying he’s going to Valhalla.

As a child, Aragorn was always my favourite character, but as an adult, Theoden is my king. I always loved him in the book, the moment when he charges to Minas Tirith and is compared to Orome will forever be my favourite moment in all of fantasy. I love King Theoden but I ADORE Bernard Hill in the LOTR appendices. He seemed like such mischievous git! (Reminds me of my late father.) While it's sad that Bernard is gone, his infectious joy can always be revisited thanks to those special features.

I'm a bit late to this Fantasy News video but as soon as I read the title & saw the picture of Bernard Hill, my heart just broke. Not only was he perfect as Theoden but he also had other very memorable film roles such as the ship's captain in Titanic and the village doctor in The Ghost & The Darkness to name a few of Bernard Hill's other noteworthy film roles. Very talented actor. So sad to hear about his passing. Thoughts, prayers, condolences, respect & love to all of Mr Hill's family, friends & colleagues and to the entire LOTR community & fanbase on this heartbreaking tragedy. RIP Bernard Hill, long live the king🙏

There was a bit more to the Helldivers story - the requirement for Playstation accounts was always going to be there. It was even on the Steam page. The requirement was initially waived to help manage the unexpected success the game ended up having on release, though nothing was explicitly stated about it being waived and nothing explicitly stated about actually enforcing the requirement. Again, was always stated on the Steam page, so you cannot say that players were uninformed, though you can see how some people would miss such a statement. Still, good on the players for fighting for what they wanted, they won in the end, so yay.

Yeah I wish more people mentioned this when covering. I think Sony messed up announcing it as a requirement after it had exploded in popularity, but it was mentioned as a requirement at the release of the game. That being said, I wish they'd just offer a bonus thing if you linked your PS account, instead of saying it is required. But anyway, it's all wrapped up for now

I love crazy remakes of old classical things. The Steam Boat Willie and Winnie the Pooh sounds great. I loved all the books like Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. And the Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter. So much fun.

The desperate search for something to be angry about made me chuckle over and over.

Water Moon sounds quite interesting. I moved on from my past but those regrets still fester every now and then.

So, about Helldivers: Sony requested PSN mandatory account binding six months before release, but as HD2 exploded in popularity Arrowhead CEO Pilested suspended that, bc servers were constantly down. Now, this is where it gets complicated: Arrowhead as the developer failed to make it clear that account binding was only temporarily stopped, while Sony as the publisher sold HD2 in countries that PSN is not available in. For reference, PSN is available in 67 countries. It's not that they didn't want account binding, they just never considered the full consequences. Arrowhead, a studio that never had a success like HD2, never considered that it would not only be more than a two-minute job to create an PSN account (Sony requires legit government authentication in some countries), but that about 170 countries and territories would have to break Sony ToS to even create said account. We know that because they localized the game in some of those countries, like China and Russia. Sony, as a publisher that doesn't really port to PC, should probably have known not to sell a game with mandatory account binding in a country that they don't operate in. And that issue still isn't resolved. Steam delisted HD2 in every country PSN isn't legally available, and we have no update about what'll happen to everyone living there that bought the game. Addendem: Also, as of writing, the cape designs are only community mockups, Pilested joked about making a cape out of it, but it's only soft confirmed.

That feels like a bad recipe all around, though I really have to question what Sony was thinking selling a PSN mandatory product in countries they don’t even operate in. It seems to me they’re either going to reverse the requirement or have to refund all the people who can no longer play

So teeeeeeny tiny correction. Funko Fusion isn't a Playstation exclusive. It's coming out for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and Series S, and PC! And if what I was told is true, a bunch of the developers originally worked on the Lego games. :) I'm not a huge pop person, but I'm actually intrigued by the game!

Idk why it bothers me that he has yet to Petrik’s name correctly lol it’s pronounced Petrick not Petreek.

I really wish folks would distinguish between developers and publishers when talking about the kinds of terrible decisions that happened with Helldivers (thank you Daniel for being specific here, talking about other creators). It's almost never a developer (the people who make the game) decision when it comes to distribution of a game and how that works. Requiring PSN login was definitely a strategy by Sony to increase their marketshare (they are trying super hard to compete with Xbox and gamepass, getting everyone to install PSN on their devices is clearly a move to compete there), devs couldn't give two fucks about that and almost universally just want to make a game that people enjoy playing (while making a living, obviously).

In other manga fantasy news which “Daniel” for some reason forgets to cover, “Yoshihiro Togashi, the author of popular manga/anime series has announced on twitter that he has resumed writing on a new batch of Hunter x Hunter chapters”

the Arrowhead devs may not have wanted to require PSN linking but the CEO has still admitted that he had a part to play in this: "it was my decision to disable account linking at launch so that players could play the game. I did not ensure players were aware of the requirement and we didn't talk about it enough." they knew before launch that PSN linking would be required, but disabled it because of the server issues and didn't make it clear enough that it would be required at some point in the future. a lot of people wouldn't have bought the game at all if they knew PSN linking would be a requirement at some point.

9:50 Whether the Arrowhead wanted it or not is pretty irrelevant. The CEO said in one of those twitter threads that they knew 6 MONTHS in advance that it was coming and they chose to not let their players know.

Short shrift to Bernard Hill, there, Daniel. Barely an afterthought. Neglecting to mention his massive contribution to acting over the decades, with iconic roles in multiple major projects, is one thing. But to mispronounce his name in such a crassly American way - unforgiveable!

I tried listening to gardens of the Moon I got about 3-4 hours in and just had to give up I couldn't follow along a single damn thing that was happening and every name is the most made up fantasy thing I couldn't even keep track of anything via that either. I was getting so frustrated and was trying so hard. Because I got a friend that loves the entire book series and I want to really give it a go. I started looking up Reddit threads and basically came to the conclusion of the first book is really really hard to follow along with It is only really good as a reread but if you can get through it the rest of the book series is the most phenomenal shit you'll ever get through. I tried listening again to guardians of the Moon and I had to give up. It just frustrated me that much that I couldn't follow along. I might give it a go another time but for now I got put it down

When filmmakers have no one to tell them "no" they make self-indulgent navel-gazing, incoherent personal films. Megalopolis looks like it'll be a movie that only Coppola himself will understand or appreciate. I know there is a cadre of film fans out there that love any sort of weird, incomprehensible works, and they will adore this film, and there is a cadre of fans who are somehow full Coppola stans, and will worship any project he's a part of... but.... this looks like a disaster.
