    I think if the teaser sketches had not been so banging with those maniac angles and lines and the yellow/silver colour scheme, people's opinions would not be as harsh as they are now about the design. Yes, we all know that bikes on sketches and actual production bikes look different, but Honda seemed to properly make all of us excited at first, and then let us down a bit too much with the actual design.

    I'm seriously considering swapping my 4 cyl CB600F Hornet from 2012 for this new 2 cyl 750 Hornet. I mean the top end and high revs have been a blast to bang through the past three years but in real world situations I'm missing the torque down low. It just seems more usable in terms of acceleration at kinda legal speeds (my current hornet does 100 kmph in first gear). Bluetooth navigation and music controls through the dash sounds like a blast too. Also being able to fit the touring pack for travels to wherever in Europe, test ride is planned for mid January next year.. Only thing I wonder if it would be possible to fit a 180 rear tire after factory tire is worn down. I think it would be worth sacrificing some fuel mileage for highway stability and beefy looks. But I'll test ride it first.

    I really like the Hornet on paper, I thinks it’s a great package and value for money also and I understand the cost-savings of parallel engines; however the looks are an acquired taste - I think at best it’s Honda-Handsome, but a bit safe. At worst - I might say the designers went a bit literal on the “hornet” body shape, the quad-dot headlights are a bit generic/ 2000s style, and the red frame paint reminds me of cheap, metallic red nail varnish. Apart from that, I think it’s great.

    To me it seems the ideall no nonsense bike - I'm sure the Transalp will outsell it a good few times over, and those prelaunch clips didn't do the mild reality any favours. But I like it, in part because it delivers much better performance, plenty for the road, than the cb500f or for that matter the old road nc750s. And for a standard Honda roadster it's pretty light - not the over engineered bikes they usually turn out. And I managed to sit on the one on the intermot display floor several times on wednesday and thursday, it is smallish but not cramped, highlight of the show to me (admittedly not the best intermot ever), and I might actually look to get one early 23.

    If this 750 is replacing the CB650 then it made more sense to have a CB750 (with the CB650 styling). Also, a Rebel 750 for £7500 would be more my cup of tea.

    Not for me. I don't get the Rebel styling thing at all, and the front-end instability at high speeds on the Rebel 1100 is absolutely inexcusable. Honda should hang their heads in shame. I would really have preferred to see Honda do a CB1100F with the Africa twin motor, but arguably Honda made a smarter choice with Hornet. The MT-07 has always been the sweet spot for me, but the Hornet is a very strong competitor, depending upon the price when it lands here in Canada.

    They should have just called it CB 750. The Hornet moniker is related to real sporty looks which the current iteration doesn‘t have. It looks like a commuter bike. The 160 rear tyre means you don‘t have to lean it as much at same cornering speeds. What seems to be great at first glance turns out to be a bit of a bummer for sporty riding because more lean equals more fun.

    I have watched both your videos on this bike and you are correct about the price point and the customer decision. One thing I was thinking is people have been saying about the Chinese bikes such as CF moto, Benelli and Moto Moroni producing bikes at a great price and the Japanese are snoozing as they take market, probably more in Eastern /Asian countries, so maybe this is the answer to that, a good value 750 bike, so maybe your comparison bikes are only a European perspective.

    This will definitely be my next bike, a nice upgrade from my CB650F - i’ve always wanted an MT07 because of the power delivery and torque but I couldn’t justify it with the old forks, minimal electronics and plastic build quality - especially the new model which I found insulting as they made it uglier and forgot to upgrade what people actually wanted (upside down forks, TFT, TC) This new Honda is pretty much everything I’ve wanted in a motorcycle.

    Glad I bought my CB650R when I did. The only thing I'd want from the Hornet is the electronics package. RIP inline 4 naked bikes, guess it's gonna be P twin tractor engines going forwards under 1000cc. Yes, I know there are a couple triples out there. They are the exception though, and how much longer will they survive?

  • @graeme6539
    @graeme6539 Жыл бұрын

    Everything you say at the beginning is true & yet the fact is, the inline 4 is still much smoother, nicer sounding & higher revving than the parallel twin. Imagine if we compared this 750cc parallel to a 750 inline 4 ? Well, you don't really have to imagine, you can look at the outgoing Suzuki GSX-S 750 - it would smoke it. Of course it costs more too. Sadly it looks like Inline 4's are moving up the price range, being reserved for the Z900s & GSX-S 1000s. All that said, I think Honda are to be congratulated on the price, with the economic situation how it is, their timing is perfect. Pity it looks so very bland. Here's to hoping the inevitable fully faired sportsbike version looks nicer ! For myself, very happy I got my CBR650R while I had the chance.

    I'd buy the CBR650R if only in my country they imported the fully powered version than only getting the neutered learner version. That said while I'm also partial towards I4's I'm thinking this new P2 might be more fun. Namely as the 650R is quite heavy. Especially when compared to the 750.

    @@ThermicLight Are you in Australia ? They seem to permanently maim loads of middleweight bikes to make them 'LAMS'. Beats me why they don't just bring out both or offer restrictor kits. I guess it's the price you pay for not being in sync with other countries licencing categories. I do agree with you, on paper, this Hornet is a bit lighter, nearly as powerful & more torque than the 650 IL4s, so I don't doubt it will be as good/ better in many ways. But there's something about the IL4 + these new hornets are, not ugly, but certainly not beautiful.

  • @ThermicLight

    @@graeme6539 - That I am. The thing is though that it's only Honda which strictly offer LAMS only bikes. And while I know they discontinued the fully powered version of the 650F, due to poor sales, they didn't think to change their mind with the sporty looking 650R. Or as you said to at least offer an OEM kit for conversion. Meanwhile all the other manufactures, including Aprilia, offer both versions for full power or LAMS. Personally I don't especially understand from where all this hate towards this new Hornet is coming from. As you said it somewhat sits in an ordinary place in terms of aesthetics. My guess is some had set their expectations too high to begin with.

    Great follow up video. I think the hornet will be a great bike. I was going to buy an SV650 earlier this year but I think the new Hornet will now be top of my shortlist. On paper the value for money looks fantastic. I'm not 100% sold on the looks but I would say it looks bland rather than ugly. The MT-07 and the Z650 have the same angular styling. It will be interesting how long Honda hold the launch price in the UK. It's only £900 more than a CB500F and it undercuts all it's direct rivals. In terms of colour I quite like the white / red but would need to see in in the metal. The silver with the black frame looks too boring although the matt yellow looks OK. Boring design for sure but probably the best in its class right now! I have changed my mind before your video but I was prompt to tell I hated it at first sight. What made me change my mind is the red candy frame matching the upd fork color, the lightness, the simplicity/reliability/power of that new powerplant, the big tank for long range, the tech (even if I don't need it) and the list goes on... But because I believe the pillion won't be happy on that ugly skinny seat, I am looking forward to seeing the Transalp indeed, which makes more sense for me in my country Cambodia. The tire. The problem with 160 is that it’s the Cb500f swing arm and suspension.... the swing arm that Honda bragged about making thinner to save weight on the update a couple years back - and now they have doubled the horsepower right after cutting it down to only what was necessary on much less horsepower.

    The original Hornet-Like the Fazer and Bandit-was a bitza bike. The sum of the parts made it excellent and cheap. I don’t see the same with the new Hornet, it’s designed from the ground up to compete with the Kawasaki/Yamaha 700/650. It will do that no problem, but it isn’t cutting the same edgy ground as the original Hornet. Not that it matters.
