I tried to study composition again, this time with a focus on portraits with the help of the masterful ASK. I will probably do more ASK studies in the future!
As always, I'm happy to hear your feedback or any suggestions.

When you're looking at the focal point consider not just the rule of thirds, but the flow of the shapes. Ask is extremely skilled at using shapes of her composition to accentuate and draw you into the focal points. Usually you can see this with the hand/forearm placement, but also with cloths, hair, or background elements. You can trace lines from these elements and they all guide you straight to the focal point (eyes most of the time). Really quite wonderful to study!

@@35Subject oh yeah definitely, i make sure my sketch is perfect so i know where to render 👍🏽👍🏽 its just that my rendering has progressed so far it actually looks bad w lineart. However, unlike the other person, my fully fleshed out illustrations still take a month
I found myself a little bit unsatisfied with my work. I keep staring at it as if it feels lack of something. This video helps me a lot !!
I see, the idea of the silhouette itself being beautiful is so interesting, definitely gonna try to implement that into my speedpaints

Reminds me of genshin impact characters. Their silhouettes are incredibly distinct despite having a character roster of more than 30+ characters
I LOVE this, there's not enough videos on composition and it's something I've really been feeling a lack of in my skill set. You have a real gift for breaking these images down and finding why they work, how the shapes and the elements come together. It got me fired up to try these ideas myself instead of sticking to boring, tired straight-on angles. Also, super smooth transition into the skillshare ad, more folks should do it this way instead of the usual jarring break in tone and presentation.

I'm really happy to hear that. I find composition to be super underrated especially among beginner artists, and while there are other important aspects, there's a lack of content presenting composition to this audience so I was hoping to reach them with this video, which I think worked pretty well. Thank you for commenting
That’s the style I want! Not even at the level where I should worry about all this yet, working on boxes atm 😂 so will save your vids for later

Thank you for this study! I've always wanted to improve my composition as well, so this video helps me a lot.
I Love you. Edit : Everytime I found artist, young, teenager or adult their style was unique from their Poses, Creativity, Painting, sketch. Unfortunately they all have one thing in common. Whenever Anyone ask them the smallest detail they will often ignore it, for example when Someone would simply ask them their how do they make their poses, sketch, Painting Well... Good, they will often ignore it. Although I understand their privacy but to ignore a simple Question of 'which brush do you use?' its Kinda rude. There were a lot of young artist That tries to use internet for good such as Trying to learn, Picking their style, improving their Thinking. But yet again, they are still kids. Theres a massive chance That Parents Did not approve it and there's Nothing that They could do about it. So their creativy often goes to waste, but thanks to The art community who often Give away of how they made their Art, like how they made their poses, Sketch, coloring, shading and heck even style. This way, young artist could Learn and developt their own minds to art and unique style. Thanks to you young artist could choose which style or art they would like to have or learn, from potrait style, Painting style and much more. With these they will eventually subconciously developt their own style and deeper Skill developtment. It really helps to shapes their Minds to arts and with you Learning with them (even if youre profesional) makes them excited, Cause they think theyre not the one whos Leaning. Exploring and Finding out The style together, to them it excite them to work with other artist even if theyre still begginer. And Thats Why I love you for sharing and studying Style, it really helps shapes young artist eyes and minds

7:39 imo the drawing could be improved by making a slightly more turned angle to the left, so that the arms diagonal distance was more noticiable i couldnt really find the triangle as easily, so changing the angle would achieve that w/o changing the pose / mood; but a slight pose change could also do great
@sariyaart

Yeah I agree in hindsight I would have changed the pose a little because this one feels a little awkward, and your suggestion is definitely one way to do it. Thank you for commenting

Thank you for this composition video, it’s very helpful for beginners. I’ve I moved out from the beginners spectrum but it never hurts to always revisit old information. Composition is important because no matter where we are in the beginner to professional level skill, if your composition is good, it can help bring a piece to life in addition to appealing to the eyes like how you expressed it. (And I personally find it fun to look at composition too since it’s the logic part of art) So good job on the video!!! 👍
