In this quick art style analyis video,
I will show you how ask(askziye) colors her illustrations
it is actually a combination of 4 simple things
1.Desaturated base color / light
2. Muddy shadows
3. A touch of gold / vivid lighting

get color & Light: a guide for the realist painter NOW, you're making some really bad mistakes, not because you arent trying but because youre misinterpreting the colors she's choosing, for example she isnt just desaturating the base color, shes going cooler/bluer and desaturating at the same time and barely at that , she keeps the colors close together. The biggest error is that youre trying to decipher something when you barely have the tools to understand them. keep it up good luck

What I did is color pick dozens of asks artwork and observed. Adding gold to a cool color such as purple and blue seems like the common pattern in her works and it is very consistent. I have no idea bout color theory tho. Thanks tho

@ I'm also learning about color and light and apart from using color and light: a guide for the realist painter; I'm using Light and Color for Visual artists which complements well that one, as for youtubers I'd say Marco Bucci is a good one, especially if you go to his paid courses although since I haven't taken them I can't say how good they are but based on his videos I'm sure they have to be. Now, a youtuber I highly recommend to any artist regardless of level who also has paid courses is Jeremy who has a channel called Lighting Mentor, he is the other youtuber apart from Marco Bucci who has blown my mind with his color relativity, dynamic lighting and color temperature videos, changing the way I see color and light forever

this was super insightful! i saw another comment mentioning this, but personally i wanted to point out the skin specifically! the shadows you chose made her skin look almost too yellow/the shadow seemed to lean towards green compared to the warmer tones in her art. i definitely did learn smth new tho, thanks!!

I really appreciate you, sharing your thoughts on this topic. However, I dont think that this is how it works. You should do some research about color relativity and revisit her drawings once you get a better understanding of the fundamentals.

Really amazing video! I'm so excited to try this! Quick question though. When you add the gold color, do you add it above the base and under the shadow? I'm a little confused on what layer it should go on. Thank you so much and amazing job!

  • @DFMC_Art

Thanks. Yes the MIXED WITH GOLD layer is above the base and under the shadow or you can just change the base color to the one mixed with gold

@@DFMC_Art Okay wonderful! And one last question and I hope I don't sound stupid. When I go to put the gold in, it just paints over the base completely and doesn't look like yours. Am I missing a step? Or mixing it incorrectly? How do you go to mix it? Thank you so much and I apologize for so many questions! >.

@@sunlessrose8848 oh yea , I forgot to mention in the vid, you need to use a transparent brush (default airbrush)or any kind of brush that has mixing properties. If u don’t have a transparent brush, you can create a new layer above the base, clip it and then paint the gold, after that reduce the opacity from 100 to 30 %. Reducing the opacity of the above layer will automatically blend the color of above layer and below layer
