Recurring dreams of her over the years, increasing in frequency in the past couple of months, and once again on the 9th anniversary of her passing (March 10), have convinced me that I had to do this video as a dedication to a soulmate. At 5:25 Eucalyptus Erythrocorys bloom each March (Princess Zara's anniversary). Each year a take a cutting of the scarlet buds and place them in front of the framed photograph of Princess Zara
(5:06) to replace the one placed there a year ago.
Eucalyptus Erythrocorys is one of the most spectacular of the eucalypts when in flower. The flower may be 7 cm across with four tufts of golden stamens at each of the “corners” and are in groups of three. The flowers are preceded by large rectangular scarlet buds and are followed by large helmet-shaped fruits. There may be so many of them that they weigh the tree down.
The foliage of Eucalyptus Erythrocorys is dark green and the leaves are sickle-shaped. The bark is creamy with a few rough patches of loose brown bark.

"The singer-songwriter from Oneonta, New York travelled a lot across the country playing country music. While he was spending his time in New Orleans, Walker had an awkward encounter that sent him to jail. He was slightly drunk that time and suddenly made a public display where he tried to convince a young lady about the reality of love at first sight."
Contrary to popular belief, “Mr Bojangles” was a white guy and not black tap dancer and actor named Bill Robinson.
Jerry Jeff Walker (born Ronald Clyde Crosby) met “Mr Bojangles” while in jail. He was a street performer and had been arrested when police conducted a sweep of indigent people after a prominent murder. This white guy tried to hide his true identity from the police so he used the nickname “Bojangles”.
“Mr. Bojangles” talked a lot of things about him. The most remarkable story he told Walker and the other inmates though was about his dead dog. After this, everyone listening to him turned quite emotional. To lighten the mood in the cell, one of the detainees asked for something. “Mr. Bojangles” was then obliged to do a tap dance to cheer them up.
When Walker moved to Austin, Texas, he was inspired to write a song about the encounter he had at the New Orleans jail. This led to the birth of the song ‘Mr. Bojangles’.

Here lies an excellent example of a true story, written and sung in the late 1960's by an acquaintance of the subject character, "Mr. Bojangles" (a fabricated name) by this incarcerated person. The writer happened to meet him in a New Orleans jail. Doug, the NDC Webmaster, had researched the origin of this song in detail as written in his notes. This heartfelt story combines intense pain and loss that hits many of us in life. The Webmaster himself informs me of his cherished pet dog, Princess Zara, who lived for fourteen years. It has been nine years and he still misses her to the point that he felt compelled to dedicate this song to her. And may I add that after fourteen years, I also lost my aged calico cat a few weeks ago and I wept profusely at 5:06 - 5:24 at the end of this song while reading the poem. (I still look for her when arriving home.). This entire video takes us on an emotional rollercoaster ride for five-and-a-half minutes as sadness is introduced, juxtaposing with happiness, depression and melancholy memories of the past. Doug judiciously inserts video and images in black and white as well as moments in colour to depict these feelings. As an additional touch, Princess Zara is highlighted in this song at 2:53-3:10 and in the end. The most difficult video for Doug as it combined deep emotions and an exhausting amount of time in eight days (10 hours each day). (Timeline Comments will follow.)

In addition, I noticed at 4:25 the two floors of cells along both sides of the corridors, however this image has an added great staircase in the center as if the purpose was to show Bo's spirit ascending to signify his passing.

You have most certainly outdone yourself this time.😊 I love the fact that on this occasion, you have not only commented on the video in terms of not only the background story and my research into the lyricist and his amazing song, but that you then proceeded to provide a blow by blow, detailed description and explanation of the song and my effort. I was/am deeply moved by the fact that you totally understood where I was coming from and my reasons/intentions were in including the various images that I did. How extremely perceptive of you; the ponderings of a sensitive soul. Just to highlight a couple - 1. You grasped the fact that it was my intention; a deliberate move on my part to have the grim jail scenes in stark black and white while having Mr Bojangles’ recollections of happier times in colour. My initial intention was to have the entire video in black and white…. But when it came to inserting Zara’s image…. I simply could not bring myself to do it. I would be doing the Precious One a disservice. It was then that I decided on what was to become the video. Zara, saved me yet again. In her 14 years, she saved me on 3 separate occasions from being bitten by highly venomous snakes (Tiger and Dugite), by alerting me to their presence when I was oblivious of them, in doing so, providing me, with the opportunity to deal with them as I asked her to step back. Forever grateful. 2. Your comments on 4:25 were extremely accurate; they struck a chord… I was so deeply moved that you were able to deduce precisely what I had in mind when I included that image. So moved.

🎼🎶☘️💚☘️. I guess I have heard "Mr. Bojangles" a gazillion times by many artists. I was not familiar with Neil's rendition. It's outstanding! My comment today is focused on the brilliant imagery and editing of the video as Neil Diamond sings the story. The pictures are overwhelmingly stark and even gritty, but masterful. I couldn't take my eyes off the screen....especially when the sweet dog...Princess Zara...appeared. Brought a tear or two here....I read the 'show more' notes before viewing. Excellent! So glad to learn that you've listened to this beautiful, touching song that many times and even more so that I've been instrumental in bringing Neil touching rendition to you. I first listened to his version back in 1973 and it so moved me then that I have not concerned myself with listening to other artists. With Zara's passing this song came to me, front and centre. I even mentioned it family and friends. Though the sadness remained, I was under the impression that I could shelve the incredible loss in my memory banks and permit them to remain there, dormant. I guess that somehow this was not what Zara would have wished. The dreams, unlike most other dreams which I usually fail to recall on waking, had in recent months have become more frequent. The one I had on the 9th anniversary of her passing convinced me that I had to do this video. Upon its completion (80 hours) and upload , I felt emotionally drained... exhausted. Incidentally, I have added notes in reference to the beautiful yellow flower and scarlet red buds in Show more.

Since I was probably 8 years old, my sister and I have had cats for pets. I mean many cats plus a few dear pups. Being a pet parent, as I now know you have been, it was my honor and pleasure to be present at most of our dozens of cats' births and departures. 🙂😥. I know the pleasure of having pet soul mates! Our sweet Felines and a few of my dogs are buried right here close to home in their favorite napping spots. The video certainly shows the 80+ hours of diligence you gave to Neil's special version of Mr. Bojangles I was captivated ! 🍑

Thanks for your comments Louise. We have Zara's ashes in a dark blue velvet pouch, in a varnished wooden box. It sits in our wall unit. Out of respect for her, I have resisted the urge to loosen the gold chord of the velvet pouch and view her ashes (which I assume is in a plastic pouch).

@NEIL DIAMOND CENTRAL Doug, I understand your feelings! We chose to bring pets home to bury them....remember I have 14 acres to place them wherever they loved most... Charlie Fitz was our last big soft yellow tabby who died of cancer in 2018 at age 10...he's in a small flower garden of orange day lilies and a bird bath, and a garden 🧚♀️ fairy watching over...😌. What was Zara's age? She was a beautiful dog. Do you have another pet now? Thanks for replying 🙂!

Hi Louise, Have stated her age in Show more. 😊Indeed! We visited the home where she was born and out of a litter of 8, she was the only fluffy one. She choose me! Bounded up to me from approximately 20 feet away and placed her tiny 6-week old paws on my ankles... and my heart melted. Her final weight was 90lbs.

So glad you did Debra. As for myself, I was rather stressed out putting the finishing touches to this video which took 8 x 10 hour days to bring to fruition. My reward being the beautiful comments I have received, and am reasonably content with the finished product.

It is sad to see Neil suffering from Parkinson's. Such a vibrant and talented man, a legend who mad eour lives so exciting with his music, I love his Johnatan Livingston Seagull, such a philosophical story. Is there anything that remotely approaches that today in music? 😆
