My grandfather was a kid during WW2. He lived about a mile / mile and a half from a scrap yard. He would always talk about sneaking into the scrap yard and sitting in plane cockpits and imagine playing with the guns. He said there were always swords and pistols / rifles, and medals throughout the yard. I can't image all the things that are just gone now. Im lucky enough to own a small collection of ww1/ww2 items. Some pieces, some people hate, some they love. To me it is all a part of the history of the world and needs to be saved.

Really cool to see the full story of the sword. Hopefully it really is legit and someone will one day get it restored and authenticated. Pretty crazy to think that these swords were so masterfully crafted that they survive (and are still sharp) nearly 400 years later.

Then you rented it twice for $45 total so all you are in it is $15 not $100. When you said “I’m not really making any money” by selling for $90 you just made $75 profit.

That's awesome! I also own a katana by the same smith, Yukihiro 1st generation or 'Ichi' as you mentioned, and Hizen is the province he is from, which has become what is now known as the Nagasaki Prefecture. I had it imported from Japan last year from a well known dealer. I paid about $8000 for it. Getting a katana properly polished again costs about $150/inch of the blade + shipping costs. I keep mine properly oiled so hopefully I never have to worry about that!

I remember my grandfather saying in WW2 he saw crates of such swords thrown into the ocean when he was in the Navy. Im Glad this one didnt end up in a Landfill.

Every video brings a smile and new things to learn. Pete, do you or will you make merch available in V neck style?

You mentioned learning new things all the time, especially when it came to the sword, I do have to say that I need to show this to a friend of mine. His late father was in WWII and brought home two swords from Japan because they were copying the Chinese swords. After watching this it is definitely something I am going to have my friend check out, would never have given it a second thought since they were knock offs so to speak...and currently they are just sitting in a closet.

From the little I know about these swords the blades were passed down through the families and after WW2 many were forced to hand them in to be destroyed. The better ones were sometimes taken a souvenirs by American troops and sent home. Thats probably were this one came from. Super cool piece..

The PS4 that wasn't pulling discs probably just needs it's rollers cleaned. It's a fairly easy fix so I hope he didn't end up just throwing it away.
