    The jerk kept saying Pete wasn't being fair. Sorry sir, pawn shops work on profit, not loss, and your old unknown brand bow and arrows are not going to fly off the shelf the next day. Pawn brokers never hear customers say, "Yeah, it's cheap crap and you will probably lose money, but I insist you pay me the same price I paid!"

    Pawn shops by design aren't fair. They pay you below market value for quick cash/convenience, then sell for 80%-100% market value as they have the time and space. There's nothing wrong with negotiation, just because Peter has a KZread channel and a cute cat, doesn't mean this is some reality show where the "good guy" (Peter) gets exactly what he wants 100% of the time and if he doesnt get what he wants, the customer is the "bad guy".

    The dude wanted a fair shake... the owner, this time, wasn't being very fair... I have a comment breaking down the owners ROI based off of his own words of what he could get for the items and the dude was undercutting himself of the owners "I try to double my money." By trading items in the store, the owner was making a 200% return. Tripling his money.

  • @RanEncounter

    @RanEncounter

    @@ohyea456 I don't think you have the full picture. He is taking a risk every time he buys stuff from customers. He has to make a risk assessment based on the probability of selling the goods. Doubling your money is a good rule of thumb for goods that sell normally. If he thinks he has a lower probability of selling the goods, the ROI should be higher so that the expected value of the trade is more or less balanced. I know mathematics and probabilities can be hard to grasp sometimes, but this is how it is. Also your assesment on tripling his money is wrong. You are taking multiple items with all having risk assesments taken into account. By trading he just made 100% profit on the traded item and 100% profit on the FUTURE sell of the original good. This has not been realized yet in this trade. You cannot just add up 100% plus 100% from each item and call it trippling your money. That is not how the math works here.

  • @ohyea456

    @ohyea456

    @@RanEncounter He doesn't buy items he thinks he'll have trouble selling. Saying I'm not taking into account the "risk" of not selling is a joke. I said clearly that if he regularly buys items with an assumption that a buyer may negotiate the pricing and lower his ROI, then he can afford to do it with this deal because his ROI is 100% greater than his normal deals. I think my assessment is 100% accurate. I think it's ridiculous that you would make the argument you're making when I used HIS pricing for the items that he would buy them at, not the customers. Meaning that if he thought he needed to offer less, he would have. He didn't. I did not just "add 100% to 100%" as you call it. My math is sound and I work in payroll software and testing for a living. If my math was off, I would be fired. Just because you say things, doesn't make them right. Prove my math wrong or shut up. "I know math and probabilities can be hard to grasp." What a joke.

    Assuming you would sell for half of retail... Bow, we'll say $150 as discussed, even though he said it retailed for 600. Arrows $40x2 sets Sling $20 (another accessory I'm not sure what it was but mentioned at $15) Cases were never talked about price wise... we'll assume $20x2 as I think the guy mentioned them being $40 (not sure if I missed something, like the scope, but they said pass on scope so we'll not mention it so they got it for free in the end) Total is $305 meaning profit of ~$150 assuming you pay 50% of these talked about prices and stick to doubling what you buy it for. He said the buck was $150, meaning he paid around $75. The other thing the guy wanted was another $50... that means $25. If he gave the two items... essentially he's paying the man $100 cash, then turning around and selling everything for $305. In total through the trade, he makes $205 off of $100. This is a 200% increase.... "There's no money for me to make" If a person walks in willing to trade, your profit margin increases drastically. If he buys things looking to double his money (which I personally think is a scam itself as general returns on stocks range from 3-12%) this man was giving him 3x his money. It was not a "great deal" for him as the owner claimed. It was worse than the cash deal. Sure, some of those prices may get negotiated down from buyers decreasing the profit... but if he already does that on 100% ROI... I think he can manage it on 200% ROI.

    I mean... he's okay. Some of the stuff he says is nice and all... but when it comes down to it, he's a pawn shop owner. It's not a very nice choice of career. You're buying things from people for far less than they are worth. TBH, I think I would rather have an asshole pawn shop owner than one who acts like he's doing me a favor. In this example, he says things like "I'm just trying to double my money" which is an insane statement if you really think about it. Hardly any industry makes double their money off of items they buy/sell. Also, the deal he made here nets him 200%, which is triple his money and he made it out to seem like he was getting the shit end of the deal. That's using the pawn shops prices he mentioned he could sell the stuff for. However, I would bet he tries to sell for more and lower the price over time if it doesn't sell.

PSE are a working mans bow so they sell all the time the cases could easily be sold too, arrows and the other shit will prolly be a loss but he is def making more than 150 on those three items alone that bow is selling for 200 all day and if it was higher up in the tiers of PSE bows 400-600 i get it he has to make money but at the same time old man wasnt wrong about anything he said he may be old and losing his touch but i can bet in this dudes prime he was talking you out your lunch money he never folded once on his goal he came in with one goal in mind and achieved that goal so calling him stupid is ignorant on your part

    @@petejones6827 PSE hasn't been one of the top tier bows in a while. Most of their bows sold are lower end chain store bows. Resale on them are far less than other brands for several reasons, including the fact that they are a mass market chain bow and they don't support parts on their models. To sell this to a customer, he will likely have to find someone that it already fits because the mods to change the draw length are no longer in production and if there are any problems down the road, the buyer will not be able to get parts. The arrows also having been cut to length for that customer may not even work for whomever buys it. He was spot on offering him $100 cash / $150 trade. Also bow technology has changed so fast in the last couple decades, that the prices drop dramatically. And I have run an Archery shop for 33+ years, so I deal with this all the time.
