This channel is about Mental Health Awareness and Personal Growth.
Should you be in Therapy counseling? I believe counseling is for everybody and most people can benefit from learning
more about themselves with the support of a Therapist. Therapy is an opportunity for growth, change and healing, whether
you are diagnosed with a clincial "disorder", or you simply want to expore ways to feel better and have healthier relationships.
NOTE: This channel is not a substitute for treatment. If you or someone you know needs counseling, please call your MD
and reach out for support, and call 911 if there is a psychiatric emergency. I cannot respond to a mental health crisis via youtube.
This channel is for education, not psychotherapy. I am a licensed therapist, but I am not YOUR therapist, please find a local professional for help in your area.

Hi Quenby, I felt like you were just talking to me...!!!! Lol.... I have negative thoughts all day everyday.. its a battle to just get through each day...!!! Yes, I drive my psychotherapist crazy...!!! But we do laugh a lot during my sessions... and we have be ome good friends.... and yes my negative thoughts and thinking/PTSD have gotten bettet. However it is still a challenge every day to stay positive.... sometimes it helps to think about being your own best friend... if your best friend were having these problems what would you tell them... certainly not something mean or horrible... loved this video, grest topic... Maybe you could do a daily weightloss motivational video or group... this is a very tough area for me...!!! Thanks for a great video... Debbie.

This is awesome advice! Thinking awareness can take a lot of practice and it can be so helpful once you master it. Thought records are super helpful too. I ask my clients to do that exercise often, helpful for ED and OCD.

Thank you, Quenby. Very timely. I used to keep a journal and wrote in it petty religiously for a few years and have gotten away from it over time. Perhaps I need to pick up a pretty new journal and start again. I retire from my library job at the end of the year so perhaps that will be the time to restart my journaling. Also, as one of our new adult programs at the library, we are going to do an Introduction to Mindfulness Stitching program. We just kitted the kits on Wednesday. I'm hoping to add lots of vintage fabric and trims to mine and some paper possibly, and ink. Because of Covid we have been doing grab and go kits and a companion Zoom which also helps with social time. I imagine you already do this sort of mindful journaling. You are very creative. Negative self talk is a battle for me. I tend to take things pretty personally but always roll with it and put on the happy face. My husband, though, gets to see how I really feel. LOL. I never tried talking back to myself so I will need to try that. Thank you again. I may refer back to your video from time to time. BTW, I love that top. I meant to tell you that in your other video. Have a beautiful day, Quenby. Say hello to your family for me.

@@thegratefultherapist So many variables in the human mind, as I was watching you I thought about the scripts we carry around, and where do those come from, so that takes me to childhood, and that takes me to nature vs nurture, and then that leads me to meditations, and then I think about the future, past and present. Pretty sure I'm not bi-polar, my daughter is and she explained how her mind thinks. so all this goes through my mind in like 30 seconds. We can only process bits at a time, but being aware of negative thoughts is is a good place to start 'Crazy monkey mind' lol

I d love to hear how you work with teens and respecting when their parents say no and stop a power struggle . The parents are very flexible , they are great parents and nurture their teen’s growth but sometimes it’s got to be a no to a request . How would you encourage the teen in this ?

  • @thegratefultherapist

I would work with the PARENTS on this, not the teen. The parents have to set the boundaries and be firm yet kind. I dont know enough about the details of this family but that is my response given the information of this question. It's a parenting issue.
