NECROMUNDA MAGAZINES and the original ASH WASTES | History of Necromunda #4
Finally back with the next part of History of Necromunda, and I've stopped off in between first and second editions for a short trip around all the extra material featured in the various Necromunda magazines published by Games Workshop, including a look at the original Ash Wastes setting!

We really need this series to make a comeback
"Hi gang..." Your intros are always the most fitting when talking about Necromunda.
Would love to see this series come back for the remaining Necromunda editions and more recent releases.
Would love to see a continuing of this retrospective
Does this series have any more episodes coming soon? I've recently started looking back into the hobby after finding all my 90's stuff when clearing out my parents loft. I was really into 1st Ed Necromunda & Outlanders. I'm really interested to see what's changed in the last 20+ years, stopping the videos for so long when you've explained up to same point I stopped playing is just a tease! 😉
Gang War and Citadel Journal are just my childhood encapsulated, we passed the same ones around us until they were literally falling apart
I'm looking forward to seeing what the new miniatures for the Ash Wastes expansion will be like. My Necromunda gangs get a lot of cross-game use as raiders, traders, and preservers in This Is Not A Test or raider space crews in Stargrave. So miniatures for a Mad Max-style Necromunda game are right up my alley.

There was so much great stuff. Always makes me chuckle when people complain about the new edition saying the old version had everything in one book…

O ya 3 30 dollar bucks and a couple 2 dollar white dwarfs compared to 10 60 dollar books. Ya your comparison is spot on smh
The stuff GW used to put out under their "Fanatic" brand was always so cool!
This is easily my favorite warhammer channel and I can say that I will always be happy to wait for your content. The quality is ridiculous and I love that you embrace the sillier side of things. I hope that you find some time to spoil yourself and explore the regions that you're headed.
I really would love some more Necromunda content. It’s what brought be back into the hobby. Love everything you release though.
I absolutely loved Journal. Quality content not only for Necromunda, but also my beloved Blood Bowl.
As much as your other videos are really good, this and the army showcases are my favourite series, it would be great to see more of them.
Loving this series hope you continue it right up into the current interation of the game.
Super excited for episode 5 of this!
Just barely found the channel about a week or so ago Got really into the history of Necromunda videos, and was really disappointed to find that there were only 3 of them. Super excited for this one. I love seeing the history of how games (and the models) evolve over time.
Necromunda was my first minis game (I know I've typed this comment on YT before, maybe even here on your channel) so those issues of White Dwarf and Citadel Journal were some of the first I owned and read. Great memories... I still have them around here somewhere, although I don't have a complete collection of any outside of WD. Knowing how wildly untested and wacky the Blood Bowl articles were from that era (we used some of them in a modern league ~3 years ago), I have to imagine that a lot of those Necromunda articles will "break" the game, while some of them will be nuggets of pure gold. :-D
Hands down the best Necromunda content on KZread. My friend and I have recently picked up the first edition and I can quite comfortably say it's been my favourite tabletop experience ever. Great to know there's loads more content and scenarios out there, thank you :)

Great series, I'd love to see a 2nd edition follow-up!
I recently got the Eldar warlock Ythrian Mardawn that was released for Necromunda. It was a demo sculpt that was then released in 1 of the magazines

Yeah, I had that guy, along with his Eldar fire dragon bodyguards and the Armageddon sniper. Sold them on eBay many years ago, which I *kind of* regret a little, but realistically never had much of a chance of hitting the table.
Absolutely love these ideas, but has coursed me to spend way to much time hunting for old issues of gang war and necromunda magazines lol 😂
Looking forward to the day you return to this series - hopefully soon!
Love your videos regarding Necromunda, I hope you make more!
Fantastic go through of Necromunda history thanks you rock! Makes me soooo nostalgic
I like how since your candle reviews your videos have become a truly multisensory experience.

@@ArbitorIan What about part 5? I want to see Underhive, then Nu'munda
Great video. Always love when Citadel Journal gets a shout-out.
Waiting for the rest of this series
Your videos are filling me with nostalgia for my teenage 40k 3/4E days, and making me want to play again, but I really don't think I can commit to a full army any more. On the other hand, I wonder if I can convince a couple of members of my boardgaming group to get into Necromunda... (even if I have to promise to paint their minis for them!) Can't wait for the next one of these, and your thoughts on Necromunda 2017.
Genuinely excellent work Ian. Your videos improve my day.
I loved the Squat Fighting Retreat module that brought in elements from Spacehulk. Playing a squat team that slowly dwindled away through the campaign as you couldn't replace loses and the tyranid GM force that gradually grew through the increasing number of random blip tokens per game.
Need more Necromunda! Hope for move videos soon!
Was the 2nd edition video just never done? I love these, would be great to see the series continue.
Fab video, loving the reviews of the old content!
Ok 2 things I HAVE to say that tickled me in the right way: When you 1st talked about Citadel Journal, you showed an issue - I happen to have that exact one (if I recall I bought it for the Blood Bowl content this issue had) And the Movies Article... we actually played that "Predator" scenario in the campaign we ran at the gaming store i worked at when this was released. When you talked about the movies I was really hoping you'd mention it and, well you didn't disappoint :)
Love this deep dive on your channel. Would love deep dives into each house eventually as well.
Very informative! Thanks for sharing!
Please continue the series. Would like to see 2003 edition necromunda.
Your great videos make want me to play some retromunda
Great video as usual Ian! I remember seeing those converted Ash Waste dune buggies in old White Dwarf magazines, can't remember for what though. Also remember the Savlar Chem-Dogs regiment of the Imperial Guard (sorry, Astra Militarum ;) ) who were basically the same concept as the Ash Waste Nomads but as a WH40K army instead of a Necromunda gang. Certainly resulted in very similar looking conversions in my experience.
Love these videos. Thanks.
Another great Episode!👍 Check out the Ash Waste trailer (again Im sure). I'm positive those gangers in the trailer are Squats!
I missed so much of this when I was still playing GW games during this era. Feels like there was a huge amount of choice and tons of options for everything, a lot of it only barely touched on by the main GW design studio.
@1926jqg

I really miss the choice in general. Are there any miniature wargames with good model support that still have this aspect?
@tinyfishhobby3138
2 жыл бұрын
@@1926jqg I honestly couldn’t tell you, I don’t keep up much with wargaming news. I mean, to be fair… Necromunda might still count for that? Lots and lots of supplements, official minis, and probably the ability to use tons of non GW minis too
You weren't wrong about the Ash Wastes expansion, though I think I prefer the original :)
Ah the Predator one sounds super fun... They should redo it but using a Reiver lieutenant... 😆
Eagerly awaiting more nostalgia heroin good sir :)
I always figured a gang teeing off against a lone Imperial Fist would be highly amusing since they infamously recruit from Necromunda, or a lone assassin looking to eliminate a specific target within the gang . The predator idea made me think of how Karandras, the striking scorpion phoenix lord, would be a suitable predator stand in.
An exile house that became desert nomads sounds VERY familiar to House Atreides minus the jihads. I'd totally read a novel on this.
Great series.
Love your cardigan
I have some old Tallarn Desert raiders painted up as ash waste nomads. I also have a Eldar Ranger gang that was planning to use for our expansion into Ash Wastes. Never really got off the ground for us in our campaign though.
Where is part 5 ? Can’t find it
Thanks for the video
Good to see the candles aren't going to waste.
Hi Ian, i dont know if you done it someplace else, but id love to see you do an Army Showcase of your Horus Heresy Warp Cult! Thanks

Oh I'm building up to it, but it's gonna be a BIG one!
I need to read a lot of the older books to pick up on History.
Love your videos, have had them on non stop whilst painting recently. Would you consider making a good books guide to non-imperium faction novels? I loved the vid on best Horus Heresy novels!
I love the history vids of Necromunda, a game I always regret never getting into. Maybe I'll check out the current line before prices go up. Great stuff though! Ian, are all the mag shots in the video part of your own collection, or did you just somehow find them online? I can't imagine anyone keeping all these magazines from the 90s to present in their loft, on the off-chance they'd be making a video of the history of Necromunda on a video sharing website many years later!

If you look in the description, there's a link to the Necromunda Compilation V1, which I created years ago, and was a single document containing every random doc I could find at the time, lots of which used to be available on Fanatic Online. That's where all the shots came from!
So much scope here to use existing models converted for the ash wastes. I've got so many ideas using Fantasy, AOS, Kill Teams, 40k & Necromunda all Mish Mashed together for Ash Wastes. Must have cowboy hats for???
I'm new to necromunda & like the look of the Mercator Nautica Syphoning Delegation models from FW. Could you plz tell me what battle reports they would likely be in as the more recent reports don't seem to be in??? I'm looking for ideas for gangs with these miniatures in them.
This seems as good a place as any to ask - many years ago I remember a Citadel Journal article that I'd love to read again. It was a tactics article about Eldar, basically encouraging you to embrace fast-attack, with an army heavy on jetbikes, vypers and falcons. This was for 2nd Edition, but I've no real concept of exactly when. Anyone out there remember what issue it was in?
@TurbosTantrums

Oh, and I also have fond memories of a Wood Elf v Dark Elf campaign in the Journal with comedy names like Aejacs Pinethresh and Vak'Yom Kliina. Again, anyone know where I might read that again?

fwiw i tried "citadel journal eldar" just now and did get some hits for scanned articles, but seemingly not the one you were after (stuff about exodites, who i'm pretty sure don't ride jetbikes ;) )
Ah, the best game GW ever made.
Sweet, thanks for the review! Hi-Ho's my favourite. A shame the gang war fanatic press magazines are about the size of an envelope hehe.
I hope they release some neat vehicle rules, Wargames Exclusive has a line of Heresy Hunter cars that I've trying to decide what game to use them in.

I'm not sure who the next line of command is, however, we're gonna need a Tau Update in the distant future. They're weaponry would be a tad different.
NICE!!!
was this series ever continued? I'm not finding any videos after this one :(
WD191 was my first, and what a first!
Games are so much more hilarious when the player base has a sense that they own it and anything goes!
Funny...squats are back!
I like these Extremely Infrequent Series
By your opinion ,which one necromunda is better the new one of the 1995?
Yay ash wastes!!!
Hey are you going to make more necromunda videos I want to see the progression of your gang…

Ash wastes is one of the coolest part of Necromunda but I've never seen a campaign played. It was hard to get just heavy weapons in N95, it must have been hell to maintain vehicles.
squat miners are back lol I had faith and called it that they'd (squats) be back soon evvvery one doubted me but look who was right for ONCE!
