Hi Scrab my Neato works again. Thank you again for the valuable information.

I also had the same problem some days after I replaced the broken o-ring of the side brush. The robot always tried 3 times to start and I got an error with a red led light. I saw that the lidar didn’t turn. So I thought about replacing the flat cable from the motherboard to the lidar or the lidar motor or the big lidar o-ring. Because of that I wanted to find out if the lidar motor turns and just the o-ring is worn. So, I started the robot without the main cover. The lidar didn’t turn. So, I tapped it with my finger counterclockwise and it started to turn again. Now the robot works again without replacing anything.

Thank you, that actually did fix it for me! Just lightly moving it got it unstuck.

I had the same problem. The ribbon cable was damaged, the lidar was not spinning. I changed the cable with no effect. Then I checked the lidar's motor and it turned to be dead. I opened it and slightly bent the motor's brushes, assembled the motor and voila - it works again.

The same happened to me yesterday. The LIDAR motor does not spin. After 2 years and 7 months of owning it. Neato told me to send it to 1 of only 2 services for the paid repair or to buy a new unit with an undisclosed discount. If I am to buy, it will be definitely not Neato anymore.

I agree. Free repair yes but I would not buy another Neato

I just had the same issue. Replaced the lidar motor and the ribbon cable and the bot is up and running. Both parts are available on Amazon.

Very great video explaining your journey and the steps you have taken to solve the problem. My D7 has started acting up and I opened it up and also found my white ribbon cable is burnt/ripped a little from same area as yours was. I've never played w/ these ribbon cable. Hoping you or anyone else can provide me with some "for dummies" instructions to uninstall the burnt/ripped cable and reinstall the new one. Cheers and thanks in advance!

I have the same thing. Looks like a common issue. I suppose that the lidar unit gets stuck or fails in a particular way that it burns the cable, so it's is probable that the lidar unit is in need of replacement as well as the cable.

the little motor breaks very often I had change like 3 in a couple of years.

I was losing my mind. Replaced the motor and still didn't work. Finally got frustrated and started searching online and found your video. Sure enough, I checked my ribbon cable closely and found that it was damaged. Looks like it heated up and melted, probably from the bad motor.

Any reason why replacing the ribbon cable would cause it to melt and smoke? Fried the replacement!

Hi, I am not sure if the LiDAR on my D7 is spinning or not. It spins when I push it with a Q-tip but doesn’t spin on its own when I run the machine.

It measures 350mm length and needs to be forward or same side. For the D7. Probably same for d5 too

Exactly the same happens to our Neato D7. The lidar does not spin. What I tried is to buy a new lidar motor for about 30 euros, replaced it but nothing changed.

Try replacing the ribbon cable. As you can see mine was fried so I suspect when the motor goes it causes an overload and it fries the ribbon cable. Yours may not be as obvious as mine but if you are in it the repair for 30 bucks minus well spend another 10 for the cable before you through the whole thing in the trash which is what I am going to do the next time it breaks!

@@ScrapMetalWorks it looks like really the power for my new motor is missing. I just supplied only 3 volt from a separate DC power adapter. And the motor was spinning and it spins the lidar as well. I don't know the true voltage for my motor. I have no technical data for it. Does your D7 is working now? Does your lidar spinning now?

@@ScrapMetalWorks Let me tell you that I was successful at the end. Replacing the cable for 20 Euros solved the problem. Now i invested 30 euro for a new motor and 20 for the cable and the Neato D7 is working as before, no damn error anymore. Thank you very much for your hints and the videos

Great information, I was wondering about the 'Go' button you pushed to verify the lidar is not spinning, How or where did you find this or just through experimentation? My D5 moves about a foot off the charging station and fails to go further, happens about three times, then stops. No voltage on the motor could mean bad cable or board, voltage on motor means bad motor. Thanks for your video.

the "go" button is the same one you push to manually start/stop the vacuum when it is assembled.

@@ScrapMetalWorks Yep, I was saying I had the same issue. Fortunately a new $15 LIDAR motor and an hour of my time was all that was needed.

Great video. I've broken the little black connector that hold the ribbon cable in the connector : anyone knows where I can find new one? Thk'x!

Might try McMaster Carr or Grainger. It's likely a common terminal housing.

Inglese Why don't we start by sending out emails asking for out-of-warranty fixes and refunds for those who have already fixed their Neato since it's a common problem for everyone? I undertake to do it in Italian by a lawyer and someone is needed to do it in English. This is a clear construction and design glitch, as it is common to all . This way Neato knows that after two years everyone replaces it and it's too easy. Let me know and we'll be back updated. Italiano Perché non iniziamo con l'invio di mail per chiedere la sistemazione fuori garanzia e il rimborso per chi ha già sistemato il Neato, visto che è un problema comune a tutti? Io mi impegno a farla in italiano da un avvocato e serve qualcuno che la faccia in inglese. Questo è un chiaro problema tecnico di costruzione e progettazione, visto che è comune a tutti . In questo modo Neato sa che dopo due anni tutti lo sostituisce ed è troppo facile. Fatemi sapere e torniamo aggiornati.

Hi I have the exact same problem Anyone knows how many Volts there should me to the lidar motor? Dont want to by a new motor if there is no voltage to it 🥴
