    No they really don't deserve it. That's unfair. The majority of the people who buy sports games are casual gamers, or non-gamers who just want to try a video game based on their favorite sport. They are not in tune with these issues and should not be burned at the stake for not having in depth knowledge of the gaming industry and what is considered unacceptable by most gamers. I am sure there are many willing to put up with it also because the servers for the old games are shut down and they just want to keep playing they're favorite game...I understand that feeling myself because of Overwatch, I've almost broke several times and jumped to OW2 but (thankfully?) some new shitty thing pops up that drives me away again. I do agree with you that anyone aware of these issues with the franchise should not be continuing to support it but if they do, it's their own money down the drain, not yours. No reason to get mad if you aren't invested in the franchise.

    My biggest question is how were the review scores that high? The disconnect between corporate reviewers and actual gamers is starting to visibly widen.

  • @jaybee4288

    @jaybee4288

    11 ай бұрын

    It’s because corporate reviewers use a 1/10 or 1/100 scale and take into account gameplay graphics music etc. While user reviews tend to use a 0-3 or 8-10 scale and take into account what their favorite streamer thinks, whether they like the company or not, if they lost in multiplayer, if they think microtransactions are ruining the country etc etc. A user will play the game for 80 hours and review it 0/10 after completing it three times because they don’t like Blizzard. The professional reviewer will give it a flat 4/10 simply for having 80 hours gameplay. And won’t deduct points because Blizzard did something bad unrelated to the game that week.

    i mean theyre still reviewing the game standalone, which they say is fine outside of the microtransactions and the release schedule. there still are casual players who dont care and will enjoy the game anyway. the capital G gamers are giving the game a low score not because that’s genuinely how they have evaluated every aspect of the game, but because of how it relates to the franchise as a whole and because it makes a statement.

    The worst part is, they force players to buy the new edition or not play at all because they shut down the servers for the older versions of the game. So not only can you not update your rosters, you also lose any online progress and all of your microtransactions are deleted forever. Its better if you just never touch one of these games.

    This is why I don't touch the shitty online modes. I held off for months on buying 2K23 until I read a review that basically summarized it as "the single player experience and franchise mode are great and very improved. MyCareer and online modes are a broken mess and not worth touching. Depending what you're looking for will determine if it's worth your time." I ended up getting it on discount and had fun with it because I only play franchise mode. The MyCareer mode and MTX Hell modes are just not worth opening, they're so fucking awful. It's a shame most people don't learn that lesson and still keep getting sucked in by those modes infested with gambling and cheaters.

    I don't even buy microtransactions since I don't play MyCareer exclusively. I mainly stay offline with MyTeam, and the mode I play the most is MyNBA. If you wanna go on about how this game is pay-to-win, just think about how a team can spend a lot of money to get 4 All-Star caliber players who turned into superstars after the off-season can either get in the playoffs at a very high seed and still lose to a team like the Nuggets, or win it all for a year. That may be due to simulation, but in a full 12-minute quarter game, it'll show a lot about how dominant they can be. Hell, it's like that IRL, and the Suns are one of them now. They have 1 superstar in KD, 2 All-Star players in Booker and Beal, with Ayton being the fringe star where no one truly can put him in a category. The gameplay's different from last year's. The scoreboard in the Lebron Era is great, looking like from 2K11, and the Modern Era scoreboard is the best we've had since 2K7. What I have an issue with the game is them removing the Auction House in MyTeam, but being able to pick and choose what card you wanna buy is a lot better than trying to buy the cheapest card on the market, making packs worthless, which is why they made the best cards a lot more expensive than a box. Plus, I don't think that this game on PC is the Next Gen version since someone was commenting on my stream about them not being able to play MyNBA Eras.

    @@lakerfan2874I understand where you’re coming from. But the fact that 2K has been using micro-transactions for people who don’t want to grind for their stats/rank, for the last 6-7 YEARS, makes it impossible to play online if you don’t want to pay money. You either start off at rank “55” or “65” (I can’t remember), then as soon as you hop on a 1v1, you get SMACKED. And more often than not, the person is ranked “99”. The game is broken as hell lmfao I only play offline and have been forever. They’re stuck in a loop as well cause if they were to ever rid of pay-to-play, there goes all the twitch streams and all the people who pay for that. And they NEVER get the 09-10 Lakers roster correct. I’ve seen them fuck up the 02 Lakers too🤣

    An element of blame is on the player. Most sports game players won't buy games without official league licenses. "My teams gotta be in it." And guess what shady publishers own the league licenses currently. 2K and EA. Everyone's favorites. So what happens is games made without licenses fall below radar not making any money because "my teams gotta be in it" and games made with the license are just the same crap year in and out like Madden and 2K. I miss the times where we at least got good arcade sports games too instead of just simulation sports every single year. "My team's gotta be in it" seems to be prioritized over fun gameplay. You can lock badges at gold and silver which means a badge won't drop past that threshold, the badges are completely game changing, but if you want to be able to grind to level 40 in the season pass you CANNOT grind out a character because you cannot get the vc to get your character up. They tend to put a lot of time into them though and get their money’s worth in a “hours per dollar spent” way so it’s hard for me to criticize. Games can be updated, patched, the whole nine yards, they could very well release just one game and update it with each new sports season, only releasing a new game every few years when they get a better engine. But they won't, because money.

    Speaking as someone who actually likes sports games... I knew a sports game taking the crown of "worst reviewed on Steam" would happen eventually, I'm just surprised it wasn't Madden. This has been a problem the sports genre has had for years now. It's not just NBA2K, it's Madden, it's NHL, it's "EAFC", it's MLB the Show, it's every AAA sports title that puts pretty graphics and microtransactions above all else while the gameplay continues to deteriorate and us fans of this genre scream endlessly into the void for them to fix things or reimplement basic features they used to have twenty years ago! Because at the end of the day, like you said, these companies have no incentive to fix these games. They know as long as it has that league's logo on the box people will buy it and spend obscene amounts of money on MyTeam and since all these sports leagues only have one official game to their name, they have no competition and thus no reason to improve. At least we have indie sports games and roster update mods for the older and better games.
