Who benefits from all these deep vac costs that are involved. Does your employer pay for these wicked expensive hoses, high priced pumps and vacuum gauges? I mean we never use to do this 20 years ago and the stuff is still running.... Are these tool companies selling us a pile of more shit that we don't need, in our already overfilled trucks, to haul around, telling us "Oh, you have to have this"..... Maybe its time we take a good hard look at these tool companies in our trade, and start to question more of these "so called experts". I think the majority of all these," Ya gotta have this tool" people is more like, .....it won't hurt, but its not really making any difference". I've found in some older manuals, the OEMs only called for about 2 to 5 thousand microns in their manuals. None of this 500 BS.

hvac01453 I totally agree with you . This new stuff is great and it does pull a vacuum faster but I don’t believe it is necessary . Like you said we didn’t have this stuff 20 years ago and I’ve pulled hundreds of not thousands of systems into vacuums through my gauges with no micron gauge and I’ve never , ever had an issue . Also my company wouldn’t by me hoses or micron gauge or any of that. Usually the tech has to provide his own tools for that stuff so it’s really what you want to spend your money on . But again I don’t think any of it is necessary to fix equipment properly .

@@Cscrefandhvac it's just after rethinking things out, I found it was costing me money to provide deeper vacuums. Is it really making any sense... KZread videos make it look like it's required when it really wasn't... Is there a different between a 65 psi suction and a 68 psi??? Not really , Why do we feel the need to have. Digital gauges? I'm about to retire now, just wish I wised up earlier... I like your channel and work some if the same areas... Drive on.

Mike Malone digital gauges make sense. It makes you faster as u can see sh sc pressure all on one screen. The leak check timer is awesome. Newer tech tools like this vaccum pump I guess just makes you more efficient since they claim to be faster. But yea I do believe some things are over board like those big blue hoses for vaccum and an app for your phone, not really needed

Personally I think this vacuum stuff is great. To say it was better in the old days is crazy and maybe lazy (considering some of the work I've seen, lol). I have found leaks because my vacuum didn't pass the decay test. I also feel like as it's a peace of mind that I'm offering a professional job with an actual stat/number I can give to the customer. This differentiates me from my competition. Nevermind what I've learned what it means to pull a deep vacuum. I learned from old guys like my dad and while I will always look up to him and those like him. This "new vacuum stuff" is just plain better. Please don't feel like I'm telling others what they should do, that's just my 2 cents. Dig the videos, keep up the good work!

I remember when I bought my first Supco analog Micron gauge, The instructions said The Micron gauge is no substitute for a leak check with pressure. I knew some guys would use 400PSI on a leak check,... his logic,....because the HP was rated for that, the system should be too....??????

Hey Chris. You always do sweet videos. I’ve only been doing this 6 years longer than you. When I started. We didn’t recover and we put our gauges on for about an hour and took lunch and if they didn’t go up when we got back. We started charging. Beer can cold 🥶. My shop buys pretty much all of our stuff except for hand tools. But over the years I picked up my own stuff as I found out what I liked. I just picked up the Fieldpiece VP85 vacuum pump and the MB 45 recovery machine and I think that I’m going to get the S480 gauge with smart probes. Anyways have a great Sunday. I have the the Feildpeice probes. I have the kit from Tru Tech that has both probes, 2 psycrometers, 2 temp clamps and also 2 manometer. I love it! It has replaced my gauges for the most part.

Nice pump.

just had the same issue w that 3/8ths hook up but didn't turn the T was worried I may crack it or split the thread lock ok the threads going Into the pump.. did you take that t all the way out or just turned it to get the clearance??

On the off chance Navac is listening , they need to get a distributor in Europe, man . You should see the state of some of the products we get from the supply houses ... The UK tends to have more US brands , but then again , they're leaving the EU . Hey Navac , Fieldpiece, get a distributor in Germany , or France or something , please !

With all due respect to the guys who have been in the trade in excess of 20 yrs. I believe this trade was way more forgiving to the "malpractices) back then than it is today..The quality of the copper both i the coils and lineset was way better. Also, mineral oil is not as hydroscopic as todays poe. Just my 2 cents

My habits are a bit more annal than these guys...My pipe ends are never left open more than 5 or ten seconds, always covering then with tape. I do my driers one end at a time on flares, leak check with about 40PSI of N, if that passes I add 22 vapor and pump it up to 150 PSI and check with my H10G (I have 3 different models of the old H10), Then bubbles with a dauber...if that passes, I dump it, and use N @150 PSI and take lunch, or reassemble the unit and put away the miriad of crap we haul up on that roof, (my aching back)... worse thing is a call back. Skipping a step = mistakes and a callback. If I do a compressor, its a day. My boss says, take your time, and do it right the first time.... Rarely does he push us hard. Call backs are a part of the job, as long as they don't become a habit.

How tall is it? I like the yellow jacket and JB just because it is not real tall so it can fit in a shelf of the van or truck toolbox

I have the exact same pump. Love it!! I use it from chillers to refrigeration. Am super impressed with it. How do you like the micron gauge? I am due for a new one. Am excited to try their valve core removal tool. I use appion now. Did run into exact same thing with hoses.

Philip Messer I really like this pump for sure . The micron gauge is cool and I haven’t had an issue with it yet . I have heard that the blu vac ones are the top of the line ones these days though . I have the appointment valve care removal tool also. These Navac ones are basically the same thing

Nice job. I’ve been a HVAC contractor for 25 years and I’ve never seen a double ended tank like that. Is it dot rated for recovery?

Lee Johnson haha no idea. It’s called a one shot recovery tank. Pull out the gas from a system and that’s it. The tank has 2 one way valves on them so once they are closed they don’t open back up . You take it back to the supply house and they give it to whoever disposes of the used Freon properly .

But it’s made specifically for recovery. It’s a DC-30 one shot recovery tank .

This question is 5 years after the video but do you trust the gauge on the pump as your only micron gauge?

I just bought this pump in December. My hose attachment is turned how yours use to be. So the factory hasn't fixed them. When you turned yours, did it not effect the vacuum??? Will you post a video of you turning this, so I can do it on mine. Thanks!

I just turned it a little bit clockwise so basically it just tightened it a little more. It has not affected the vacuum. It’s been fine

Hello, I have the same pump as on this video. I went to use it in class yesterday and it was smoking. Is that normal? The oil is slightly above halfway. Thanks.

Yes , it’s the oil exhaust. Do you smoke a lot at first and as the vacuum gets lower that smoke dies down. These have a really big exhaust on them I thought it wasn’t normal as first either but I contacted NAVAC and it is normal

Thank you so much! I used it for the first time in class Monday. It was pulling fine, then I got the unit down to about 3000 microns. Then all of a sudden BOOM it shot back up to 20,000 microns. I think there is a big leak in the system. I think as I was pulling the system down it popped some of the leak stop the other students had put on the service ports. It is a Frankenstein unit. I will find out on Thursday for sure. Thanks for your reply. Any other videos you can recommend on this pump???

I just bought the NRP8DV for $500 and a free trublu kit. Im wondering what the difference between these two pumps are, if you know? The only thing that i've gathered from the description is the lcd display with microns.

Also the the DV series doesn't have the electronic solenoid valve like the NRP8Di/Di6. It has the manual valve in it. Also the Di series has what they call an extended vacuum, which means once the pump hits 500 microns. It starts to pull slower and deeper to remove all the moisture. This helps keep the moisture from freezing due to the low vacuum. Then after it has pulled like this for 30 min. an alarm goes off to notify you the vacuum is complete. Then the electronic solenoid valve closes and seals the vacuum. So say for instance you were pulling a vacuum, and you had another quick job a few miles down the road. You could leave and this pump would do everything for you, then when its finished it will seal its self and power off. This series pump is considered the first "Smart Pumps". Pretty Cool!

You are right on point about the old days not using micron gauges always used my analog guage manifold 1/4" hoses and replaced drier in 40 yrs maybe a hand full of moisture issues reused poly oil to fill compressors from the same gallon never threw it it out if even a 1/4 of the gallon was left, never took out Schrader cores or 3/8" hoses except when I new there was a potential for a moisture laden system...so this 40 yr refrig guy will leave u with sound advice so save your money and go with your gut feeling if you have good reason if u suspect moisture issues...its a marking ploy save your money

Oh gawd you mean I waisted all my money I just spent on 3/4 hoses. Someone told me the Poe oil requires the deeper vacuum. Jokes aside yes your right no guage and small hoses will get it done for you, look at it this way you can still send someone a message via mail through the post office or you can send a text message in 2 Seconds. Times change . Shit gets cooler 🤓

It's practices like this that give the trades a bad name. The new oils are way more hygroscopic than the mineral oils that you cut your teeth on 40 years ago. You probably braze without purging with Nitrogen as well... The inverter compressors and the sophisticated metering devices in these new systems will not tolerate shoddy practices.

the thing is a beast but is it worth the $700 retail on it ? 🤔 list price is like $950...im a firm believer in you get what you pay for and i do spend extra money for better quality but i guess it will be determined if its worth it in the long run...see how it holds up after 5 years of being in the field
