I am a licensed HVACR technician and I can assure everyone that is in awesome vacuum pump Robinair makes extremely high-quality tools 4 the HVAC trade it is one of the top brands that you're going to find in an HVAC supply house that vacuum pump getting it for $25 was a steal that is about a $350 pump and as long as you keep the oil changed on a regular basis and don't ever run it low on oil it will last forever

Just pulled a later model (blue) one of these apart. A complete dismantle, every item except the oil seal in the case was removed. The unit had very low use but went underwater in a storm and was left as is for about 5 months. Changed a chunky bearing in the motor 6203RB and meticulously dismantled, cleaned and polished the internal surfaces of the vane pump, no so much corroded as stained and discoloured on its surface from the water sitting there mixed with the vacuum oil. there was some slight surface rust on the external surface on the pump, that to was cleaned off. I noticed on reassembly there were no dowls or the like for aligning the plates and body of the vane pump. Given the tolerances of the mounting screws and the lack of an end bearing in the pump, the whole housing was free to move slightly on the alloy face its attached to. Just seems a strange way of doing it given the shaft at the motor end just runs through an oil seal and that's it. I wonder if there is some special factory alignment pins that are then replaced by screws during assembly. Anyway it works great now sucks a serious vacuum, wish I had a manometer or Torr meter to quantify that. Just wondering if anyone else has had the vane pump apart and did anything besides align and centre the plate stack and pump body pieces visually on assembly.

Thanks for making this video. I just picked up my first used Robinair 15400 today and I’m stoked. The oil was pretty trashed so I immediately dumped it out and put a viscosity 46 pump oil I found on Amazon temporarily. Connected my manifold gauge said just to see how quick it would run it down and it did so instantly. I know I need to put it through its paces but by chance do you know of other oils I could use or am I stuck with having to pay $20 a quart for the Robinair oil? Or by chance do you know what the viscosity of the oil for these things are? Thanks in advance.

My grandpa has a robins or and the electrical compartment is beat up because he works for HVAC and it still works surprisingly

I have a chance of getting a Robinair 15800 8cfm for a great price, will a 8cfm be a noticeable upgrade over the 6cfm model? My intention is for HVAC.

a 33% reduction in vacuum time for the same volume. Really test it to make sure it works properly and pulls full micron vacuum, no leaky valves and is not leaking oil (although vacuum pumps that are over-filled with oil do push the extra out the exhaust port)

@@CatusMaximus Hello, guess what, I picked up a cheap Robinair 15434 for $50.00 in the classifieds today. The good news, sight glass is half full of oil and it pulls vacuum. The seller said its been sitting for years in his shop. Do I have to use genuine Robinair oil or is there another type of oil that works just as well? Thanks again.

In my HVAC class one of the guys over filled one of these vacuum pumps with oil and sprayed a guy half way across the room he was soaked with oil and the guy was not happy 😂
