CHS is no joke. I started smoking weed with 16 every day, I am 31 now. When I was 17 I had the first episode of CHS. It started with one week of extreme stomach pain and not beeing able to drink or eat. Only hot showers helped, so I was sitting in the shower for hours every day, even in hospital, as they weren't able to find the problem and couldn't do something for me, except giving opiods as painkillers, which only helped for a few hours until the pain came back. At that point I didn't consider the weed smoking as the problem. Usually it helped me with "normal" stomach pain from eating to much and such things, and the doctors had no idea that CHS even existed back then. But things got worse from year to year as I continued smoking weed. The episodes of CHS got longer and longer and appeared more often. From only 1 week in a year at the beginning, when I was 17, up to 2 weeks this year (age 31). This year I had to go the hospital 3 times already and they finally diagnosed me with CHS. Now I almost stopped smoking weed for about 2 month already and I hope I don't have an episode of CHS again in the future. But it's really hard for me to stay clean, as I loved smoking weed and all my friends still smoke. Over all the years I smoked weed and suffered from CHS I noticed some things which could have something to do with it: 1. Out of all people I know I always had the dryest mouth, throat and lips after consuming weed. 2. I have always been the first one falling asleep from the weed we smoked, while others are able to stay awake, even though they smoked the same amount. 3. The episodes of CHS mostly appeared in or after weeks of very high dosages of thc (over 1gram of weed up to 3 grams of strong strains per day). 4. Most of the time my body showed warning signs before the episodes started: getting dizzy while smoking weed and acid reflux before and after smoking weed. My advice if you suffer from a strong episode of CHS pain: 1. Hot showers/ hot water will help, but only as long as you stay in it. As soon as you go out the shower the pain and nausea comes back. Watch out not burn yourself with the hot water, as hotter water helps more, but you sometimes can't feel the pain of burnings anymore, because the stomach pain from chs is so strong. Try capsaicin cream in addition or instead of hot water, as it helps for a longer period of time and you can't burn yourself with it. 2. If you aren't able to drink for more than 24 to 36 hours, go to an hospital or at least an doctor that can give you intravenous infusion as soon as possible! Your body needs water. I once refused to go for more than 48 hours until my parents forced me, which was good, as the doctors diagnosed me with kidney failure from not drinking for over 48 hours😓 3. Tell the doctors the truth about your cannabis consume (even if you are scared to let them know because of the cannabis laws in your country or your parents etc.) and let them know it could be CHS you are suffering from. many doctors still don't know CHS exists! 4. Stop smoking weed completely or at least stop smoking it more than one or two days in a month, and don't smoke too much. I can tell you, from my own experience, it will most likely come back, if you smoke too much.

I believe my partner has CHS. She's been having episodes of extreme vomiting for nearly 3 years. She's hasn't been open to discussing her cannabis use with her doctors, as she's afraid of being treated like a drug addict in the hospital. Typically after she's gone through an episode she's open to discussing CHS with me as a potential cause, but after some time of abstinence, she relapses. She's at the hospital now. This is her second episode this month, and 5th this May. I really don't know how to help her.

@@SuperJeremy1982 First of all your emotional support is very important. The pain from CHS can be very strong, and being alone or only with strangers at the hospital with this pain at least for me is very depressing, which makes it even more worse. So visit her as often as possible, hold her hand or something like this, if she is in strong pain. This always helped me a lot. Second: convince her to tell the doctors about it: Yes, some of them may not be very sympathetic and understanding, but at least they can give you the right medication, as common painkillers for stomach pain usually won't work. It's "just" cannabis, nothing uncommon, doctors have to deal with it everyday . Where I a from, it's illegal to own cannabis, but I still told the doctors. You just have to. Usually benzodiazipin or opioids are the onlything to quickly relieve the pain. In addition she needs infusion to stay hydrated. Try to buy capsaicin ointment, put it very thin on the stomach, and maybe shoulders and back, but not too much, as it burns and feels very hot, like chili. As soon as she can she has to start drinking small amounts of water again, sip by sip, and wait for the reaction. If this works for at least 24 hours start the same with soup, maybe without anything in it at first and then with some vegetables inside. Try to avoid food with much fat, much sugar or acids. After another 24 hours without vomiting try some food like mashed potatoes and other soft boiled dishes. Continue that and slowly work your way up back to your common dishes. All in all try to eat healthy food in general, fast food, sugar, acid and fat is bad for people with a sensitive stomach. If she feels better again, she needs to stop consuming cannabis, thats the only way to stop CHS. It's hard, but she has to. You can consume after a while, but only one day a month or something like that. Last time I suffered from CHS, I only smoked for one week after beeing clean for a month and immediately ended up in the hospital. It's really not worth it. Again, she probably needs emotional support to stop smoking. If all of this doesn't help, she may have another disease and should be checked again by the doctors. I hope everything is understandable, as I am from germany and english is only my second language. I wish both of you the best, try your best to convince her and follow the rules I mentioned, and I am sure she will be fine in a few days.

Omg this video just saved my life, I've been suffering for the past year with all these symptoms, and the Drs from where I am aren't very familiar with CHS so I've literally been at the brink of suicide on how bad the symptoms are, this is me literally down to everything she said. Now I know and thank God. This is one of the most debilitating illnesses ever, it's pure hell. Wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.

Bad thing about medical/recreational marijuana.. how long have you had cvs.. mine started as a young child.. many years undiagnosed.. then got diagnosed with CVS at 12.. I’m 39 now and marijuana does help my nausea!! Just “helps” tho.. when I say helps I mean when it wears off I’m back just as sick.. hate y’all have to go threw them saying it’s the weed.. to even get help for CVS at the Mayo Clinic you can’t have any thc in your system.. they won’t even see you for CVS if you do! It’s crazy..

The debate will probably always be up in the air. I started smoking at 20 for maybe 6 months then went through very stressful times and had my first episode. I had stopped smoking for a month to see if that was the issue. And since then I’ve continued with regular use of marijuana. CVS is a monster and we need all the help we can get

Phenergan (antiemetic) helped me. There’s SL pills that dissolve under your tongue. They are good. The IV is better but you have to know what you’re doing or you could miss the vein and inject the drug into surrounding tissues, and if that happens, people have lost limbs. It makes one sleepy. Good shit .

10 years I’d been seeing specialists. Countless MRIs, EKGs,X-rays, scopes. Emergency room rarely helped since they don’t dispense pain meds to something they can’t diagnose. I thought I’d have to get lucky and meet a competent Dr. like House M.D. Made me suicidal and question our medical system. A doctor’s student mentioned CHS the other day…so I’m stopping smoking, and I’ll see.

I seriously cant finnd a doctor willing to take this pain and anxiety seriously.

I'm sorry but as a 43 yr old white male and military vet who first used Cannabis at age 13 and who's used it most my life especially after my spinal cord injury in '00 I call total horseshit on "CHS" I've learned alot over the years with Cannabis and once I got old enough to use it as medication and not smoke to just get high like every 20 yr old I began to educate myself on all the great benefits and healing properties of the plant. I wish people realized and talked more about the fact that they are buying dirty legal Cannabis from dispensaries everywhere and being fooled buy fake inflated THC % to help sell a branda products and ALOT of the labs testing products are being paid off to lie, and dispensaries themselves are doing it as well folks. I've worked in the industry for decades now, rhe first few in the black or grey market and then finally legally yrs ago Best advice is grow your own so know exactly what's going into your body. This entire CHS thing is simply another way BIG PHARMA makes $$ of you all and it's deplorable imo. Notice know mention of the actual "cure?" Because its a fake made up thing to scare people. Not saying some aren't possibly getting sick from bad products however and even allergies/allergic reaction from what they ingested however. So many variables.

This is just false and you're spreading misinformation. CHS is absolutely a very real condition, just got to r/CHSinfo and read post after post about it. For people with CHS, abstaining definitely reduces symptoms. Complete abstinence is the only way to stop CHS once it sets in. It only affects a small portion of heavy users, but it's absolutely real. If you actually listened to the presentation, you'd know that continuous cannabis use is thought to dysregulate the endocannabinoid system's anti vomiting neural pathways. The treatment for CHS is to just stop smoking weed. What $$$ is big pharma making by telling people to stop smoking weed when they do too much? It's not like big pharma is making anti CHS medicine now are they? Get your head out of your ass, maybe take a t break, you'll think clearer.
