I'm half black and half PR and my dad always left his hair natural. When he was younger he had an afro but then he grew them into dreads. He always told me that natural hair is beautiful and to embrace it. I use to hate my hair and kids use to put gum in it sometimes. Rn I rock my natural hair(3c). We should all rock our natural hair and stop straightening it and wear wigs all the time.

@@TravelerVolkriin Amen. Latinos are also starting to rock the natural hair. We're always tempted to straighten it. Unlike back then in the 70s, u saw Latinos who had curly hair rocking the fro as well, mostly Puerto Ricans in NYC.

Kaylo O. Yesssss the 1970s were DOPE! The Black Love,Fashion,Hairstyles,Glamorous Ebony Fashion Fair Shows,Family Togetherness, Movies,Sitcom Shows, Music,Musical Bands,Singers. I could go on and on. I was blessed to see all of this moment go down in person and a time that we may never see again. "O" how I do wished for a Time Machine✨

I love the natural hair. I had to use perm rods, but I rocked my ‘fro supporting the cause in the “D” in the 70s. So much necessary change! As a teacher, especially in TN, I had many talks with moms about their Littles, (my student’s), ‘dos. They had to educate me about their need to braid, band and clip their girls’ hair into these amazing styles…to fit in. I was “pro fro”mainly cuz my Little Divas/GQs would get so stressed if they lost beads, barrettes, etc., specially after outdoor PE. (and there were those tims my necklaces/earrings got caught in a braid during a Braille lesson 👀 and I had to get help from the office. I was so afraid I was hurting them). That’s when I learned the term “tender-headed). So, I made sure I had hair supplies in my classroom available to my Littles (boys AND girls) mfrom then on. I love your content. Thank you for sharing. It took me years to embrace my hair because I was taught to hate my hair and I couldn’t get a job when I wore my Afro hair out or wore braids. I use to have to slick my hair back into a bun just to get a job because I didn’t want to straighten my hair again. Despite that, I love my natural hair now.

Do you know how helpful this was for me as a writer trying to clarify details like this ! Hair is so important in the black community and I really wanted to make sure I had the right hairstyles for my characters thank you✍🏾 ✨✨

You showed a picture of Cicely Tyson, but didn't relate the date of that photo. That's very important, because the photo was of Ms Tyson co-starring in the television drama "East Side/West Side" with George C Scott in 1963. Her TWA in that series was not only the first dramatic starring role of an African-American woman on television (a year before Nichelle Nicols in Star Trek), but also the first Afro worn by an African-American woman on the screen in America, even before the Black Panther Party was created. When I grew out my 'Fro in 1968, people did ask me, "Son, are you one of those revolutionaries?"

The 1970s I was little girl during hat Decade and I love & cherished the Black Beauty that we had,during that time. I love the Fro and I have been wearing one for many years and now I am wearing Locs. Rest In Sleep to Ms.Donna Summers🌹 People would always tell me that I resemble the Disco Queen. And we do favor one another. However Kelley Roland favors her more than I do. I want a Time Machine to zoom out of the 21st Century and return back towards the 1970s.

If you have not seen Marsha Hunt and ALL her gorgeous hair in Howling II (your sister is a werewolf), I suggest you check it out. That hair stole the entire movie and don't get me started on her wardrobe. Marsha Hunt and Sybil Danning are the she-wolves I aspire to be.
