As a former Marine, I have to say this brings a tear to my eye. I am proud to have been and always be a United States Marine. Good job

I severed with this man in the same campaign he started the deployment as a Cpl he is a truck bad ass he is a CWO in California last I herd at 29 palms
he was my drill instructor too
this was my senior drill instructor at Parris Island. This guy was insane and had no mercy on us. Best Drill Instructor on the island.
Outstanding! These are the kind of stories our kids need to hear.
Actually met him in 2014 at the 4th Recon Marine Ball. Pretty legit
Thank You SSgt Viggiani for your service & bravery. God Bless You & Yours Forever! God Bless The United States Military!

Plt. 3109 that was my senior in 06!! I've been trying to find a video for yrs to show my kids...
Absolutely wonderful, was nervous as he was when younger and being reciepnt of a Marine of the Quarter decades ago in the mid 80's. Stay there and put the click in.
I was one of the recruits graduating in the background in this video..DI SSGT Viggiani is a great drill instructor and a great Marine...I feel honored to have served with him, Semper Fidelis SSGT Viggiani

Tell your cousin he was my Senior Drill instructor and I'll never forget what a bad ass he is
There's a "quiet intensity" about him. Scares me. Good thing he's one of the good guys.
this guy was my bn gunner in 1/1

Hes an american hero goddamnit.
Outstanding SSgt Anthony L. Viggiani! I like the way the CG held the Navy Cross for 5 seconds after pinning it on. Its difficult to put it into words, buy every Marine knows the meaning of those 5 seconds. Semper Fi SSgt Viggiani
The Navy Cross carries so much honor. Chesty Puller earned that more than once.
Sgt Rafael Peralta - Do a search and you'll find all the details. Very few know his story but those who served with him will always remember that he is a Marine's Marine.
He was my drill instructor true balls of steel this man was.
Hell yeah.. SSgt Viggiani was a drill instructor on the deck above me, he was a DI for Plt 3077, and I was in Plt 3076. We were never told of this story till Family Day.. That is one hell of a SSgt, one hell of a Drill Instructor, and one HELL of a Marine.. Oorah!!
Congratulations, SSGT VIGIANNI, Semper Fi! Well done and thank-you and all current MARINES for your Service. Tom Carter USMC (1984-1991)
Nice Job Marine!!! Thank You for your service to OUR Country.
Semper Fi. Congratulations SSgt.
This Marine was my Senior Drill instructor in Jan 2007 Parris Island platoon 3029. I will never forget the values him and the other DI taught me. Ssgt Valdes, Ssgt Benischeck and Sgt Ramirez.
OOORAAHHH, Marine. I am a proud father of a Marine son AND daughter. Its men like you that uphold all that is good in the Corp! America needs men like you. Semper FI.
How appropriate is it this Marine given his Navy Cross at the place many Marines are born? Even as he probably will say he was only just doing his job. This Marine is a true hero. Too many times these days a hero might be said another man is a hero carrying a football into an end zone to win the game play. These men and women in our armed forces are too unappreciated. Thank you all!
semper fi!!!...thats great shit!...im proud to have worn the same uniform!
13 years ago, jesus how time flies...i was there during that time, everytime he came to our squadbay we would yell out "haaaaatccchhh...one navy cross ssgt vigianny on deck!"
Damn, I AM INSPIRED!
I remember him coming to our platoon mid cycle when he was fresh out of d.i school. The other drill instructor’s told us about him earning the navy cross. He was intense to say the least lol I’ll never forget the lessons he taught us and the harsh but true words he spoke “look around because some of you ain’t making back home” 3rd BN India Co Plt 3089 2005
@jess1up I'm a retired Coast Guardsman and the marines are very respected among us. I said Semper Paratus, which means "Always Ready", the Coast Guard motto. I said this with all respect. The Marines have always land on a foreign shore with a Coast Guard coxswain at the helm. Very respectfully John.
Hoo Ra! Semper Fi my brother.
All who serve make me proud to be an American!! Bless all who serve and have served for our country. You guys/gals are the best!!!
Fantastic video!!! Thank you SSGT for your dedicated service!! Semper Fidelis!!!
I stand corrected, SSgt V is a Marine Gunner. Welcome to our World Gunner V. From one retired Marine Chief Warrant to another. Semper Fi Brother. CWO3, 1972-1994.
Thank you for your service and valor, SSgt Viggiani! From a grateful citizen!
outstanding! thank you for your service
SSgt Viggiani was a drill instructor for the platoon that live right above mine when I went to boot camp in 06. Dude is a straight badass....
Outstanding and very moving video clip. Congratulations to SSgt Anthony L. Viggiani and his family. We are all proud of you.
Read about this man in a book. MERICA!
My grandfather shipped out of Parris in WW2. He was a flame thrower and served on Tarawa, Siapan and Guadalcanal. OORAH!
@yellowwing Yes, I was thinking along those lines. Thanks for confirming it, for your remarks, and your service.
Hey leatherneck, my Senior DI was good friends with that drill Instructor. He was with India Co. for a while. Our Senior also gave us the leatherneck magazine with his article from Afghanistan.
Man that takes some huge balls to do what he did.
Thank you SSgt Vigianni. From a Soldier and a father of a Marine.
Thank God that America still has soldiers like this
Great job SSGT Congrats on being awarded the Navy Cross. SGT Hayden USMC/2004-2008
my hero thank you for your service
Because these men have honor, loyalty, valor, and determination I live under a cover of freedom and peace. We owe them a debt we can never pay. I thank God everyday for the United States Marine Corps and I pray for every Marine.
I was in Alpha 1st Bn. 6th Marines from Oct. 1960 to Dec. 1962. Extended 21 months to go to Avionics School in NAS Memphis from Jan. to Sept, 1963. Ended up at Chu Lai, Vietnam in 1965 at the beginning. Honorably Discharged in 1966 at MCAF, New River after an involuntary 4 month extension. That's my story and I'm sticking to it !!!
Respect from across the pond.
To have earned this honor, there are many other brave heros alive that may not have been if he was not there. God Bless him and the rest of our troops. If you Don't stand behind our troops, Then stand in front of them.
thanks
Congratulations . Great Marine. Semper Fi
So wonderful that this brave Marine could receive this award for valor in front of new Marines on their graduation day.
I was with 1/6 in Afghanistan, but with A Co, not with Vigianni in C. Co. I cannot say what happened for the fact I wasn't in that firefight, but I have heard the same thing that alot of his fellow Marines have said. He was wounded by his own grenade. He did kill those men in the cave, but nothing worthy of this medal. He was the battalion commanders "boy", so I think that had to play a part in the award.
I'm a soldier w/ D co. 3rd BN, 4thPOG, just happened to be surfing KZread and came across this. I can't put it into words, but it does my heart good to see SSG Vigianni able to accept the Navy Cross in the flesh. Many don't enjoy the same luxury, and even fewer know the cost. F*** yeah, Marine, get some! Hooah, and Oorah!
on behalf of your shipmates in the navy, thank you for all you do! as a squid i have had the honor of working for and with marines, there is no finer fighting force in human history than you marines! sempor fortis!
Certified badass.
Well deserved SSgt. Viggiani not many people would have done what he did. God Bless
I'll be damned. I remember this like it happened yesterday. Fox company, 2nd Battalion, platoon 2012, graduated Feb 24, 2006. Semper Fi, and God bless.
Congrats to SSgt Viggiani for his award and for a job well done....Us Old Timers stand in respect to him and the Marines of today......Thanks Guys......USMC 1965-1969
THANK YOU SIR!!
Semper Fi, more power to ya! I ship out to boot camp June 23, can't wait.
Semper Fi SSGT~~~
He was my kill hat in platoon 3009. 2006. He was a beast.
i wonder how receiving such award like the Navy Cross or Medal of Honor would feel?? Im proud to live here in this country and I honor the Men and Women who serve for our country. It is people like SSgt Anthony L. Viggiani who make this country stand out :)
First let me say out freaking standing, that Marine is hardcore. I think his actions deserve a Medal of Honor more than any I have seen. Unfortunately the Corps, rarely gives any medal unless your dead. The other branches will give the Medal of Honor long before the Corps does. Glad to see the Corps is still putting out fine Marines! Former Marine here 1/6 WPNS Co. Dragon Plt. 94-95.
This is one intense human! Glad I served with him! 2/2 WARLORDS
As a former Marine, I have nothing but respect for SSgt Viggiani and all who serve and have served. Having said that, they REALLY need to get an announcer who can speak proper English. It isn't just at MCRD Parris Island, either. It's the same at San Diego and other bases whose ceremonies I've seen. It's embarrassing. Okay, I'm done whining now. A big oo-rah to my fellow jarheads.
A true American hero. Thank you for your service!
Soc unit here also. Also others received Navy Cross for the glory and I was the first one on the scene and didn't care about the Medal. Older now and would be nice to wear one.
Semper Fi!
SSgt. Viggiani was also interviewed and talked about on the History Channel show "Shootout". I was surprised to hear the name there and when I checked again, I thought to myself, "whoa, this is the same Marine". Search "Shootout Afghanistan's Deadliest Sniper part 3/5" to hear more about his actions in combat.
God bless the Marines!
This is what a real hero looks like.
You adjust and adapt to the situation at hand, that's what marines do.
Outstanding Marine Staff Sergeant of Marines. Job Well Done! Semper Fi Brother
I'm proud to have guys like that serving in our Armed Forces.
I salute this fellow soldier, i wish i could achieve such honor, maybe one day i will.
What a wonderful country that can produce Heroes like this man.
I applaud all of our servicemen who have served in a combat zone. All HS JROTC units are simply a recruiting tool. I served in the Army as a Spec4, went to college and joined the ROTC classes. ROTC in college is to train officers, but I felt it was a joke for the most part and got out. Real officers come from the academies or are mustangs. My thanks to all who have served: Soldier, Sailor, Marine, Airman, and Coastie. Memorial Day is for your lost comrades. Let's honor their sacrifice.
the nation highest award is the Medal of honor.
so cool the toughest marines show respect, i hope that in the future, we can a few more of that kind
i aint gon lie i think the marines are so much better then any other branch, america is blessed to have them.
Men like that truly embody the United States Marine Corps. Semper Fi.
This is what living here in the U.S is about, good on you.
excellent drill/discipline on that parade
Outstanding!
When I was at Parris Island this past summer, my senior drill instructor told me of this story. Crazy to actually find video on it.

Hello, are you still a marine?
I graduated from that same company about 6 months later. SSGT motivated the shit out of me and he wasn't even my Senior Drill Instructor.
The U.S. marines are the greatest warriors in history and they also have the coolest uniforms.
@kpbuckley It's Marines like Staff Sergeant Viggiani, and Marines like Sergeant Basilone that we're still standing today. Marines are held up to the highest traditions and standards, and blow them out of the water, so to speak. I'm glad to say, that I will contribute a part of my life, to become a part of the history of one of the most respected establishments in the United States. The United States Marine Corps. Oorah.
