    @@user-fq5sc5qn1f So there was one big tragedy in my country, some sort of club was set on fire and the youngsters died tragically. I never minded it that much, I was young so I didn't care. BUt like 1 year ago I realized, after coming out of my aunt's birthday party, that they were talkinga bout "the aniversary of the incident" And I said out loud "wait, that's today? Aunt's birthday is the same day as the anniversary of that national tragedy?" When my dad (her brother) confirmed I let out a quick "Wtf no way" while sort of laughing at the absurdity and how long it took me to realize it. I was told "Hey, that's a tragedy, lots of people died." seriously, which made me feel as if I was laughing at the people dying instead of what I was actually laughing at.

    Fallout 4 would have been a better written game in general if they leaned more heavily into Nate's backstory. The constant usage of power armor would have made more sense. The more shooter-y nature of the game would have made more sense.

    @YaBoiDREX

    @@CrizzyEyesNah the game would have been better if they leaned away from it. Nate isn’t “your” character, he’s Bethesda’s. Imagine that in Skyrim the Dragonborn was stormcloak soldier with a wife and family before the beginning of the game. Now it makes no sense to play as an elf since the stormcloaks hate you. But Fallout 4 does just that. You can’t play as a nerdy scientist who has never touched a weapon in his life since Nate is a soldier. It limits the personal creativity of your character since every 5 minutes he brings up his family. Fallout 4 doesn’t give the player much room to actually make a unique character since only a certain type of person joins the military, or gets married, or has children. The game should have started with your character escaping the cryopod by themselves with no spouse. Kellogg is still there but instead of your son, he steals something valuable from the player before sealing you back in. Now you have the option to get what was stolen back. Or say fuck it and continue on with the plot of the factions. Kinda like how you didn’t have to kill Benny in FNV.

    It just works! If Nate is a war criminal, gives his backstory more flesh. And it explained, how maybe he have met Nora. I just like the idea that Nora was Nate's lawyer. Nate's statement at the kitchen table when you talk to him also fits in with this. "Wow! How could someone like me be so lucky?" Coming back as a war criminal, ending up in court, being defended by Nora and in the end being declared innocent, marrying Nora, having children. That is really luck. The fact that there is sometimes completely absurd sarcasm in many situations also fits in well with Nate's backstory and could be an expression of his PTSD. And could be an expression of his PTSD. Also, what have we been playing in TES since Morrowind? A criminal who is in prison. So it's not unusual for your own character in Bethesda Games, to have no clean slate.

    Even if it isnt canonically Nate him having served in the military already points to him having most likely done pretty horrible things with how the US military was like in the fallout series.

    They executed a terrorist, no war crime. Who knows how many of his fellow Americans that traitor killed. And besides, didn't the writer back track on this statement?

    I figured out how this makes sense so after the footage of nate was leaked nate and the shooter got sued nora was nate's lawyer thats how they met, *sigh* it's too bad that it was the lead writer who came up with this and not some random guy on the internet they need to fire emil or atleast reassign him

    As i grow older im beginning to like the narrative experience of an established character like geralt more than i like the blank slates in classic rpgs less role-playing options but the role playing that is there is narrativly enhanced that being said fallout 4 didnt go one way or the other so the role-playing is a lil mid

    He served in both campaigns, there's a writer at Bethesda who said on twitter that the guy who laughs at a P.O.W being shot in the intro of fallout 1 is Nate the protag from fallout 4. This means that Nate is canonically a war criminal.

    The only good thing Emil has written in the past 10 years is a 3am shower thought that he just spat out on twitter without even bothering to look up the original source material he was referencing to find out if Nate was a war criminal. This honestly explanes so much about his writing style, or lack there of
