Very informative and useful info. And yeah, a link to your website would have been good. I’ve got you bookmarked but you may be new to a lot of folks out there.

I've got a set of these. The quality is amazing for the money. As good as some twice the price.

Every video talking about these chisels mentioned how polished they are and how good they feel in the hand. As someone who worked with metal my whole life, it's a shame that 'highly polished' is regarded as such a measure of good workmanship. although it can be, it's not as much an issue as it's made out to be. These are a perfect example of that. They are so highly polished that the edges that should be only slightly honed so as not to cut you, are rounded over to the point that there is no edge. I have a set of these and the edges are rounded over as much as 1/64th of an inch. This makes it impossible to get into a very sharp corner like one needs to for dovetails. Also, though the steel is good, it's no better than any other good quality chisels on the market like LN, veritas, or even other Narex versions. Cryo treatment is not a silver bullet. It is good, and does 'complete' the heat treatment process by helping turn the last bit of Austenite into Martensite, thus making a better structure of the steel. It doesn't make it Unobtanium though. They are good chisels if you discount the fact that the edges are so over polished that they are too rounded to be useful for really tight corners. Only a couple videos have ever pointer this out, and that does a disservice to these chisels. I'm sure people will disagree with this assessment - so be it, it still should be pointed out.

Narex Richter chisels claim to have flattened and polished backs so you don’t have to spend time flattening. They do not have flat backs mine took hours on an extra course diamond stone to flatten them. I would hope this is a batch problem…but the supplier checked his inventory and all sets were the same. Definitely not ready to use ‘out of the box’.

I had the same experience with the backs.

@@tedwilkes8783I pursued this with the supplier and requested a dialogue with Narex given all the marketing they have put out. Here’s the reply they got from Narex…. We were notified about this by a few of our customers a couple of months ago. The blades of some of the Richters were way to concave, never convex, but concave too much. We are now paying a great deal of attention to this issue, imposed a new production and measuring technique and from now on you will be receiving only 100% checked chisels, were the backs are produced according to this flatness production tolerance: max. 0,1 mm concave on 2/3 of the blade's length, measured from the edge. This tolerance is only concave, i.e. the blades will be 0 mm convex, and maximum 0,1 concave.

Same. When I first received them, I checked the backs with a straight edge -- not even close to flat (bowed). I was going to return them but forgot and now I have to deal with it. It's been over a year and they're still in the boxes.
