The sea cannot be reasoned with, you cannot control it, it can be calm and pleasant one moment and raging the next, and it provides transportation and livelihood and food just as easily as it destroys entire coastlines. Namor seems…elemental, impervious to the judgement of man, tumultuous, nearly impossible to reign in, and once he’s set on a path it’s basically like trying to stop a tidal wave.

    Something people doesn't realize aswell is the fact that Namor was pushing the comics narratives since the very beginning, in some way or another. Think of the Golden Age, colorful heroes who had very strict and defined concepts of good and evil, they would even fight on WWII (as Namor himself) and then just do inconsequential stuff, have adventures or just be heroes... but not Namor. At the end of the 30s he was at the center of what probably is one of the earliest special events on superhero comics, he would target the city of New York as the medium to deliver a message to the surface and flood the entire place, but with the original Human Torch being there to fight him and save the people, a crossover of certain scale that would define the style of Marvel characters that would be foud to constantly have confrontations between eachother, even if they were the usual heroes, I mean, Civil War kinda has its roots on something that was like 60+ years old by the time.

    Personally, after being introduce in Wakanda forever, I think MCU should give Namor his own movie or series, with the Fantastic Four making a guess apperance, allowing Namor to meet Sue and have his rivalry with Reed. The villain could be General Krang, who decides to rebel against Namor, seeing him as just spoil self-entitle tyrant. This would not only give Krang understantable reasons for wanting to take over Namor throne (with him representing the voices of the fans who see Namor as just arrogant jerk) but he would also act as contrast to Sue, who despite rejecting Namor advance, recognize his good qualities, that he is not bad person and can be good protector for Atlantis

    He could also have a unique role in Avengers 5 and 6 when they go up against Kang because the multiversal shenanigans will be the perfect opportunity for him to show his willingness to destroy other realities to preserve his own. Maybe he could do exactly that and the Avengers, despite not being happy about it, can’t really talk shit because it was the only option at the time.

  • @alexandrefrauches132

    @@lewisholiman9237 That would be awesome, specially if his actions create a moral debate between the avengers, with some being against Namor action while others feel that he is right, that they must destroy other realities in order to save their world. It's possible that the heroes defeat him in the end but the post credit scene reveals the Incursions starting to happen, giving the heroes a time limit to stop this event, which could be explore in movies between Kang Dinasty and Secret Wars (which in my opinion, should have Doctor Doom taking over Kang place as the main villain).

Also the way they figured how to show him flying because of wings on his feet was pretty dope. As the video mentioned about him basically being worshipped as a God-King is definitely in there. The only person who speaks back at him is his cousin Namora but even she only does it in a private setting. I was happily surprised by this interpretation of Namor. :Very Mild Spoiler: He says the words! Imperius Rex!

    Great video. I'll be honest; I never cared that much about Namor even while reading Fantastic Four. Yet upon reading John Bryne's excellent run on the character and seeing the good stuff he's in I've come to better appreciate him. For example, in New Warriors by Fabian Niceza where Namor proved to be a good father figure to Namoritta when she was on the team. That said, when it comes to Aquatic-based superheroes no one will beat Aquaman in my eyes. But I respect Namor for who he is. That said, I am really sad that Boseman passed away. Ignoring the issue I have with BP2 not having him in, how awesome would it have been to have T'Challa and Namor clash on an ideological level? Think Daredevil and Punisher rooftop scene but about leadership, family, and ruling. It would have been especially fascinating given how Atlantis and Wakanda are both civilizations that have hidden from the world and in turn are very similar to how they view the rest of earth. Overall, I look forward to seeing how Marvel depicts Namor and hope it is good.

    I share your sadness. When thinking about it, if Boseman was alive, I could see BP2 creating nice parallell between T'challa and Namor. Whatever incident caused the war between Wakanda and Atlantis, it could also result in the death of Namor mother, causing him to declare war on the surface. This would mirror T'challa arc in Civil War and how he react when his father was killed. The difference would be that, while T'challa learned to let go of revenge and not allow it to corrupt him, Namor just embrace it. He would had been emotional while T'challa would be rational.

  • @lewisholiman9237

    @lewisholiman9237

    To your point about the missed potential of a T’Challa vs Namor movie with the conflict rooted in their differing leadership styles, that’s one of several reasons why I think Black Panther as a property would be better suited for the small screen tbh. Because if there were several episodes to properly develop Wakanda and Atlantis both as complex civilizations instead of just a two-hour movie, then seeing them go to war would be way more cathartic if that makes sense. The various hidden nations of the Marvel universe have the potential to have the same level of political intrigue as Game of Thrones.

    Namor is not Marvel's Aquaman. Aquaman is DC's Namor. I believe Namor was created 3 years before Aquaman, and Namor was the first Superhero in flight! ALL HAIL IMPERIOUS REX!

    SACRILAGE! Lol... I've always liked Namor better. It might be more of a nostalgia thing... I also think he looks cooler than Aquaman. Namor has sort of a Black Adam look. Also, I read this one comic where he punched Hulk so hard, Hulk turned back into Banner. ALL HAIL IMPERIOUS REX!

    Namor is one of my favorite characters from the marvel universe I'm glad the MCU is finally doing him in a movie my only problem with the casting is I wish they had cast someone more attractive I know that sounds really shallow but to me a core part of Namor is that he is super good looking and confident and a chick magnet and I just don't see it with the actor that they have cast maybe he'll win me over when I see wakanda forever time will tell

    Thing about Captain America, he is VERY formidable, and even though I base my STATS of Mutants and super heros on the fact that my cousin (RIP)😭had the marvel universe comics from A-Z in 1984. Which listed the ABILITIES of Captain America, it stated that Cap MAXES OUT at about a half a TON, in terms of what he can BENCH and PRESS. NAMORS stats, listed that he could lift and press at 100 Tons. But, THE SUPER SOLDIER serum that CAP has in him, MAY have, HULK like properties. Point being, NAMORS STRENGTH LEVEL "DWARFS" Captain America, Like a BLOOD thirsty animal, compared to a human baby. But, Cap will go toe to toe WITH NAMOR, despite the fact he is technically commiting Suicide.

    I was reading Daredevil man without fear issue 7 (the one where tries to plead his case to file a lawsuit against the human race) and I got to say namor is definitely one of the more interesting marvel characters, him being this morally Gray character is very cool, I also like that he has something of a "warriors respect" to him. At the end of the issue even though Daredevil gets knocked down on his feet namor admires and respects his determination to keep fighting. He also definitely isn't an anti-hero or a villain like you said. I'm definitely going to go pick up some comics with him as the main character and see what I've been missing.
