Organic Chemistry on Khan Academy: Carbon can form covalent bonds with itself and other elements to create a mind-boggling array of structures. In organic chemistry, we will learn about the reactions chemists use to synthesize crazy carbon based structures, as well as the analytical methods to characterize them. We will also think about how those reactions are occurring on a molecular level with reaction mechanisms. Simply put, organic chemistry is like building with molecular Legos. Let's make some beautiful organic molecules!
About Khan Academy: Khan Academy offers practice exercises, instructional videos, and a personalized learning dashboard that empower learners to study at their own pace in and outside of the classroom. We tackle math, science, computer programming, history, art history, economics, and more. Our math missions guide learners from kindergarten to calculus using state-of-the-art, adaptive technology that identifies strengths and learning gaps. We've also partnered with institutions like NASA, The Museum of Modern Art, The California Academy of Sciences, and MIT to offer specialized content.
For free. For everyone. Forever. #YouCanLearnAnything

This stuff made no sense to me when my professor taught it, the book confused me even more - thank you so much for making this super simple. NOW I understand what the professor and the book were trying to say. Both seemed to skip over these fundamental basics. I believe you just saved my next chemistry exam score lol

Q: Why can you never trust atoms? A: They make up everything .. :)
briliant!!!! chemistry with you is lot more easier than with the books......
These tutorials make my advanced organic chemistry book look like a piece of cake! Thanks for the simple but effective explanations!!
This makes so much sense! Thank you! Side note: When you started talking about "Cyclo" I thought about Cyclobenzaprine and a lightbulb went off in my head!
you make it so simple to understand thank you
Wow, I haven't seen chemistry in 4 years (and I'm also not so smart), but Sal's amazing teaching style made this so easy for me to understand.
5:28 Carbon, carbon, carbon, carbon lmao
You made it so easy and simple to understand, thank you so much, god bless you!
haha thanks for saving my life! i missed 30 minutes of class and pretty much skipped the WHOLE lesson which i basically really needed..

Whenever I'm in trouble, i come back to our saviour, sal!
gosh now i understand it all these teachers dont kno wat theyre saying but you said it perfectly thanks --
Excellent, clear teaching. You are my favorite Khan Academy teacher, whomever you are. You have helped me a lot in understanding the chemistry in physiology and now you are helping in my Organic Chem class. Thank You.
You're lucky. Even if you grasp things when taught by your teacher, a new perspective is always helpful, too.
My teacher can just show this youtube video in class instead of giving a 1 hour lecture..This makes so much more sense! Thank youu!
its very helpful to understanding the basic rule thanks
Cramming the very last minute finals for tomorrow so it’s do or die wish me luck everyone

This is good start for our coming organic chemistry :)
this video made chemistry seem so easy :)
explained in a great way.. Now I understand why it has 1 million views...
Thanks a lot. Dude! O Chem looks easier now because of you. I finally understand and like Chemistry! Thanks you.
wish you could do more for dat studies!
Confused by lesson at school. Watches KhanAcademy (with Sal!) Explains idea in class better than teacher. The Lesson?: KhanAcademy EVERYTHING
Please what do I do....where I come from we don't use the line system .we only use structure and condensed form.it kinda become s tricky trying to convert to the line system
This helped me a lot thank you
this is so helpful thank you khan
4 lessons in school = 1 video. I'm wating so much time.
Our teacher sets these videos as homework and sometimes just plays them to the class :D Thanks from Australia :D
please what is the application or the tool did you use in this video?
Muy bueno la verdad un sub extra para tu montón prro
Great explanation Thank you very much
I don't have to learn organic chemistry until next year. I'm going to be so far ahead of my class, it IS going to be funny. :) Thanks Sal!
I'm reviewing in advance for next semester and honestly, I couldn't understand my book references in Organic Chem. Thanks Khan Academy!
Thanks Good Sir BTW What Program Are You using
So helpful. Thank you.
2:10 The prefix of 11 would be Undec not from french where un means one smh, it comes from latin undecim, meaning eleven :) Now that I think about it, most things in chemistry are prefixed in Greek; mono, di, etc. ANYWAYS just here to say that undecim comes from latin ._."
I still ask my self why I need this in my secondary school education but thanks cuz I was lost when my teacher did it
Good way to memorize.
i have a national exam and u saved my life fr. Big respect
the videos are great, and thank you very much. But, whats up with the voice volume? Its knida low, or maybe the problem is with my headphones. Thanx again ;).
I was viewing other Ochem videos until finally...there is was on the side bar.... "khanacademy"....I was in heaven. He's like a brand..Nike, Microsoft,...but much more reliable. My search is over

Useful
HOLY FREE HOLYS YOU DO CHEMISTRY TOO????? THIS IS THE BEST THING I'VE SEEN ALL DAY
awesome lecture
As a note (I assume it will be covered in a later video anyway): the "octane" from the gas station is actually 2,2,4-Trimethylpentan, an isomer of octane. It has the same number of carbon and hydrogen atoms as the real octane, also no double bonds or cycles. But instead of a linear chain it has branches.
Same situation here !!!!!!!! thank you so much khan academy!!!!1 :)
Where did you learned this all perfect
Are the hydrogens in 5:43 given or should i know them myself?
actually the prefixes from pent- , hex- etc ,come from the greek words for numbers,5=pente,6=hexi,7=hepta etc :). Great vid btw. thanks:))
