Naismith Awards Ceremony 2024

Спорт

Note: Raw footage from our sports anchor in Cleveland. Might see some sudden camera movements.
Caitlin Clark and Lisa Bluder are finalists for the Naismith Player of the Year and Coach of the Year, respectively.
It would be Clark's second Naismith Player of the Year award in two years and Bluder's second overall. She won it in 2019 as well.

Gabby is great. But she is no where near a defensive player of the year. I'm not a SC fan, but the best guard in guard fl defender in the game right now is Malaysia Fulwiley. There's a bunch of great guard defenders and Gabby is fifth.

How lucky to have two of the greatest coaches in women's basketball both be from the Univerisity of Iowa. First, C. Vivian Stringer who with her late husband, Bill started it all. Then followed by Lisa Bluder who has done wonders for Drake University and then the University of iowa. We have had some terrific years of women's basketball at the University of Iowa. Go Hawks!!

@marilyn I agree! She took Iowa to the championship game 2 years in a row, and NOBODY thought our team would get beyond the top 32 teams.. I'm not saying that Dawn doesn't deserve it, but after winning 4 of the last 5 years, it would have been nice to see someone else there to receive it.

So many good teams with some exceptional players. Now, I’d rather watch the women instead of the men. Why , besides they show more passion than the guys. Can’t wait for Friday night. It’s going to be awesome!

Isn't it interesting that all the teams with the stand-out 'super great players' ultimately lost it all to a team (South Carolina) with 11 great players who worked together as one amazing team! If you give me a team with one great athlete, I'm not interested. Give me a team with above average players on the whole team with depth and passion, I'll go with that every time. A genuine great player should know how to bring his/her teammates up to a higher level instead of basking all the glory themselves.

I certainly don't disagree. She's the GOAT. Unfortunately, after too many of these kinds of accolades, it has a way of getting the receivers' heads, their performance suffers. Recall when they made a statue to Larry Bird in Boston? Afterwards his performance tanked. Too much of "me" time puts the receiver's mind on him/herself and away from the game. We'll see what happens.

@genodittmer You need to do some research on Caitlin Clark. Not only is she a gym rat, she carries at least a 3.6gpa in marketing, she has her own foundation that is used to help young kids with 3 things. Nutrition, sports, and academics. She visits kids in the children's hospital. She was asked by the county food bank to do some work for them way back in the late summer of '23. They were going to pay her $22,000 to do it but she refused any pay and truly helped them by getting donations, contributions, and a couple other things that escape me right now, it's 4am and I should be sleeping. She gives so much of herself to everyone, I don't know how she has time to sleep and eat, much less go to class, and get high marks.
