Naihanchi Shodan as originally taught by Seiyu Oyata.

The first kata we teach, is at Master Shigeru Nakamura's insistence. Done slowly and precisely the first half with explanations. 100% correct. Narrow stance just like Choki Motobu demonstrated. Truthfully, I'm not known for my kata performance. I'm known for my fighting and Self-Defence Tactics and Techniques which my Military background shows.
This is the original way we were taught by Master Seiyu Oyata.
Done in Kfar Adumim, Israel with myself and Yehoshua Kadosh, my senior student who is an 8th Dan, Kyoshi, with a Daishihan Menjo (Master Instructor's Teaching License).

In fact, this newer video is in response to comments posted on our previous Naihanchi Shodan video. And, YES! we DO wear shoes. Do you think you are Billy Jack and going to remove your shoes before you get in a fight? Please!!!
Real Karate. Not Sport. Learn from a Military Science and Tactics instructor specializing in Individual Tactical Training. We do Seminars worldwide. The details are on our website www.academy-of-ryukyu-kenpo.info. I enjoy teaching people who WANT to learn! With Albert Geraldi's passing, there is only Greg Lindquist and I left from the original bunch. Greg is more of a Kata guy, I'm the fighter and tactics guy. I don't teach that namby-pamby stuff that's passing itself off as Ryukyu Kempo these days.

Thank you.....we used the kick as moving away from a leg sweep in the Okinawan Matsumura Shorin Ryu Seito style. But it can also be used as you said as an attack kick. At 73 it is not as easy as it used to be. I used karate now for exercise. Kihons 1 - 3 Fukyugara 1&2, Pinans 1-3, Niahanchi 1& 2, Pinans 4 & 5 and Paisai Sho. After that I do Shotokan katas 1- 5 Every day if I am able too.

Good stuff. Long term Isshinryu Karate student here, so I'm very familiar with Naihanchi kata. I especially liked you correcting the pointless "wailing" fake kia some people do. Also liked the point about the knee kick at the end.

I had no ideal what was going on on the personal side I was there when oyata did a exhibition. Very good I took the spy thing as a joke sense it came from another student I was there focused on learning and history I chalked it up to knowing things beyond my rank I stay out of others disagreements. The only guy I respected some of his knowledge but don't like his attitude at all was Gorge Dillman. Still don't like his arrogant attitude. But that's another story. I had no ideal of anything going on. I am going to do my best to locate. Shehan Don Weeks I'd like to see him myself talk more latter sensi. Sometimes I'm up at strange hours. As I'm in a different sort of. Fight. Against cancer. I'm not quiting this fight. I still practice. Kyushu n trite. I. Also volunteered new cancer treatment to help others. But enough. Of that it does not control my life I am so happy to. Meet you Sensi

Kinda confused here. What are you trying to say? Naihanchi stance is one and a half shoulders wide - max, feet are parallel on the outer sides, knees pointing to the sides, hips are tilted forward. This according to Oyata and me.

@@mrantek7373 I had a reply almost completed when by the magic of my phone it disappeared! Our systems are different and I'm teaching and doing as Choki Motobu, Shigeru Nakamura, and Seiyu Oyata's ways were taught to me originally. They are my lineage for this kata and I cannot disavow what has been handed down to me. I am happy that you took the time and effort to post your thoughts on this kata. Your way is valid as much as is ours. You have your reasons, we have ours. Keep up your learning and questioning. It's good for you and the people you interact with. Under or around the foot? For us around means a sweep of the foot. We step with the foot fully on the ground, just like our cat stance where the front foot is flat on the ground.

First off, I did all four of the knee strikes. There are no leg sweeps in Oyata's versions. There are only four of these movements, no more. Only an idiot would full speed and power kick himself in the knee to show it. Secondly, I mentioned that, at the time, I had tendonitis (now gone) in my ankle. It was affecting my balance and foot movement a couple of times. This was filmed as a training video not to show off a competition quality performance. (Not that I was any good at kata competition😅!)

@@Rick-qo4iq Gotcha! This video was not meant to include techniques that can be derived from the kata. I want to set up a paywall for these kinds of things. Unfortunately my tech abilities leave so much to be desired that it requires massive outside help that I'm not receiving. It's a massive undertaking that I hope to complete in my lifetime.

To you diet. And stay with it. But you may be to smart to listen to a idiot or your just haveing a bad day ? What i was saying had nothing to do with hard or fast. Sweeps to the knee but is your fist conecting a half second to your apponet before your foot comes down and makes contact. Have you forgotten the maps ? Are you sure oyata taught you this i cant remember a time when he called people idiots.and put them down. Im just another idiot doing something stupid like trying to help someone that already knows every thing some advise stupid of me right do sugest the lions main p s. Keep up the good work

I hate computers. This is the third time attempting to complete this reply. The others were wiped out, the first when, basically, completed. You are an idiot. THAT'S what you got from my reply? That YOU are an idiot? I don't recall or see where I called you an idiot. I used hyperbole to get my point across regarding the speed and power that I was going to use, which was explained at the beginning of the training video. It was general not specific in nature. Yeah! A 747 at 3000 feet overhead can be a bit of a distraction. I don't eat an American diet and mine is essentially natural; so, supplements are unnecessary. "your fist connecting a half second to your opponent before your foot comes down" is covered in other videos of ours. Essential in technique execution but impossible in proper kata execution. You can't maintain your balance. "Maps"? Never heard of them. In 1976, Oyata, Sensei came to the United States. I was waiting for him when he arrived. Master Oyata gave my Dojo the name, Ryukenkan, or Academy of Ryukyu Kempo*. I was Master Oyata's first 'transfer' student. For ten years, I, daily, learned and practiced Master Oyata's Ryukyu Kempo. From three times a week to almost daily, I was in contact with him. Not a week passed that I didn't learn, personally, from Oyata, in private lessons, small group classes, or personal conversations. In 1977, Master Oyata conferred upon me a Shihan Menjo (師範 免状). Oyata promoted me to Renshi and 6th Dan Black Belt in 1984 before we traveled to a photo shoot with Black Belt Magazine. At this time, I started traveling with Master Oyata across the United States, giving seminars and interviews with him. I represented Master Oyata in Europe and the Middle East. As a result of a chance meeting during a seminar given by Master Oyata where I was assisting in the demonstrations and teaching, I was surprised a year later to find that I had been included in the book, Masters, Founders, and Leaders of American Martial Arts published in 1985. Oyata didn't call anyone an idiot. He called them "Stuping" (translation: Stupid). As far as Naihanchi Shodan, I sent you the link to Chosei Motobu (Choki Motobu's son) so you can see the differences and similarities between the way Oyata taught me and Choki Motobu's way that Master Nakamura taught it. PS. I don't know it all. I just know the way we do it. Check out Motobu's video.

I've been wanting to talk to Don Weeks for years now. He was one of my favorite students and was a good instructor. Do you know how I could get in touch with him? His big mistake was listening to and trusting the snake Ted Winningham. What Oyata and his crowd did to Don was unconscionable and disgusting. Rocky Leavitt told me when I returned to Independence, Mo. for one of my seminars at Gerald Wicklund and Billy Wilcox's dojo. @@Rick-qo4iq
