NAD M10 V1 vs V2 // WORTH the UPGRADE??

Ғылым және технология

So what are the differences between the original NAD M10 and the newer V2 model. We decided to redo this video to address some of the questions in our original review video.

Great review guys. I’m going to be demoing the v2 in a week. Can’t wait. And will you be doing a review of NAD M33 soon. It would be cool to see a comparison between the M10 and M33, though the M33 is 2x the cost. Thanks again. Cheers

Can I run my Kef R5 with M10 V1 without any power issue in terms of bass ? Right now I have Krell kav 400xi which has 200 watts 8 ohm power not. But m10 has subwoofer crossover and dirac live feature which is really nice.

How does the amplifiers in these all in one systems compare to a traditional amp, for example would they be comparable to amps within the £1000 price range or maybe £1500 or £2000. I have a quite old marantz ki pearl lite (similar to the Pm8000 range, around £1000 new), to bring it up to modern standards would money be best spent on a streamer such as the node, and perhaps a dac and keep current amplification. or does the amplification in these surpass that of something like a mid range marantz, denon ect? I understand that some of the value is in the simplicity of the device and this I prefer, dirac is the biggest thing making me consider the m10 at present.

I would go for a node to modernize your system. All in ones have come along way, however, your older ki pearl is still good! Especially if you want to save money. Going with something like the M10 will have benefits as you simplify the system and sonically these newer class D amplifiers are getting better and better. I really did not like them in the past.

As an owner of a M10 version 1, it's gratifying to finally see its short comings brought to light. I run dual subs, and found out very quickly after setting it up in my system that it was totally useless in driving them. Their volume would not match up properly, and only through using Dirac was I able to make the system work at all. Very, very disappointing. The C658 streaming DAC suffers from the same problem. I have spent a considerable amount of time looking on line for help with this issue, and the general consensus is that these products were/are bugged and should have been fixed with a firmware update by NAD, which to my knowledge has never happened (unless you count the V2 as a firmware update which it basically is). No more NAD products for me. I have a brand new M10 v1 and C658 looking for a homes...

That’s unfortunate. I thought the problems have slowly been worked out via firmware upgrades. I’ll reach to some of the people I know at NAD as I’m curious why can’t they can’t rectify this.

@@Hifyed I'll send you what I learned from Lenbrook. @Andy Allison there is a sub hack that makes the sub work properly so you don't need to ridiculously boost it with Dirac. Basically use an RCA splitter at the sub end which brings back the gain needed to drive them properly and wake them up. There is a detailed technical reason, but that's the trick. Its definitely a design flaw, the sensitivity is way too low (about -6db I believe) and the volume control logarithmic so its never going to provide enough signal to wake the a sub at a reasonable listening level. That right there is a poor design decision. The answer I was told is to use the 12V connection and crank the sub gain right up which still isn't going to do the job if you don't have a sub with the 12V connector. And it won't solve the lack of signal from the M10 either. :( And the reason it cannot be sorted with software is apparently owing to the hardware implementation, its not just a software fix, or so they said. For sure they made some bad calls with the V1, but its still a good thing once sorted. This design strategy and the associated defects seems common across all the BlueOS powered products of the V1 generation.

@@Hifyed That would be awesome. In all fairness, I haven't plugged either the M10 or C658 into the wall in over 5 months. Maybe I should give them another shot if your feeling is that some firmware updates may now be in the pipeline.

I found a fix for the subwoofer issue. Douk Audio and others make line level signal amplifiers which you put inline between the amplifier (NAD M10 or C658 in this case) and your sub(s) and simply turn up the signal using the rotary control until your subs sound like you want them to. About $39 dollars on Amazon. Works great.

Very informative comparison that’s certainly helped with my decision to get the M10 v2. Just a quick question though - I thought class D amps generally ran much cooler than class A or AB. A couple of other reviews have reported the case of the M10 getting quite hot after a couple hours of use at moderate listening levels. Did you notice this at all during your testing, and if so, is that anything to be concerned about?

  • @billythestalker

👍👍 They do run cooler than class a or a/b. It does get quite warm especially when you turn it up for extensive periods of time. The chassis is quite small and is part of the reason why it gets quite warm but nothing to worry about. If however should not get extremely hot to the point that you could cook an egg! if so something is wrong.

I have a M10 v1 with Dynaudio Emit30 (2011), it runs after some time at 68c. Doesn’t get hotter when listening longer. I contacted NAD and they said it probably because of the speakers are 4ohm but nothing to worry about. The spec of the v1 states 100W at 8ohm and 200W at 4ohm while the v2 is 100W for 8 and 4ohm if I’m correct? That should also impact the temperature with lower ohm speakers or am I wrong?
