Mystery in Cisco Grove: Don Shrum’s Encounter with UFOs, Aliens and Robots
In September 1964, Captain McLeod and Sergeant Barnes were dispatched from Wright-Patterson Air Force base in Ohio. They were sent to investigate a UFO sighting in Northern California.
Wright-Patterson AFB got lots of UFO reports. 99% of them could be explained. And a sizeable percentage of those sightings were hoaxers looking for attention.
The other 1% were classified as UFOs and sent on to Project Blue Book. What happened from there, McLeod didn't know. The fact that he was being sent to the other side of the country meant this sighting was important to the Air Force.
McLeod had a copy of the teletyped report from the UFO tracking office. It was stamped with an unusual "Priority" notification. It read:
"UFO landing with entities reported by missile technician in Tahoe NF, Sacramento. Orders: Investigate and contain via usual protocols ASAP."
McLeod's first step was to interview the witness. And, even after 17 years as an investigator, this was strangest UFO story he'd ever heard.

Don Shrum was my uncle. Thank you for telling his story. He was such an introvert that hated the attention this brought him. We used to beg him to tell us what happened that cold night in the forrest. When I was all of 5 or 6 he rounded up my cousins and I to tell us the full story. He said he would only tell it once and to never ask him again. It’s amazing to watch this video now that I’m in my 50s and to remember so many details uncle Don shared. He was a great man!

Protecting his family was his main concern.

I grew up really close to this location, I can't adequately explain or convey how many weird lights and other things I've seen all around the greater area. My friends and I became so desensitized that when we saw strange lights we would point them out to each other and then act like "it's just another Tuesday". I've only seen a handful of things in Tahoe itself but if you head east (into the Nevada desert) the bigger, weirder and more frequent the lights and objects become. It's quite spectacular.

Hey, I'm a big fan. Your channel is so well put together and your style of storytelling is top-notch. You've become my favorite channel to say the least. I have two suggestions for episodes I'd like to see. First a co-worker of mine told me about how we was learning in school the letters to Paul and/or Peter being fake, I'd like to see an episode on this. Also would love to see an episode about Stanley Meyer, the guy who invented an automobile that used water for fuel. Looking forward to seeing your future videos! Keep up the outstanding content!

I was very young when this story was featured in a TV documentary, but I remember it well. One of the oddest Close encounter cases of the 60s. This is the best retelling of the tale I've heard. Thanks WF team! As for what really happened, Jacques Vallee suggested that that whatever is behind the UFO phenomenon shapes itself according to the expectations and culture of the witness. This explains the rather Pulp Sci-Fi entities and the illogical elements of the event.

@@TheDramacist You suggest a deliberate intent to hoax or tell a lie. Most unlikely. I suggest he reported what he experienced despite the apparent absurdity. It could be that he subjected to some kind of experiment involving "psychotronics"? We may never know and unless evidence of a hoax and motive is forthcoming, we should assume the witness to be honest.

  • @kaylakaymorgan

@@martinharris5017 ...why? Serious question, I'm always intrigued when someone decides that a hoax or hallucination is less likely than alien beings visiting Earth from across the universe with a low-tech robot in order to collect leaves and twigs and being scared away by socks on fire. I'm pretty open minded, but assuming the witness to be honest feels naive to me, given we know that (a) humans can and do lie, for millions of reasons and (b) humans can and do hallucinate things which they genuinely believe to be real, for millions of reasons. Edit: you can be honest and hallucinate at the same time, would be a fair point, but I stick to the point that a lie or hoax is still more likely than the extraordinary explanations.

I believe he was probably being honest from his perspective, but that doesn't mean I believe any of what he said actually happened. It's not outside the realm of possibility that schizophrenia or similar experiences is a way to describe some sort of extra sensory perception where the mind is trying to make sense of input it couldn't possibly understand. But in this case, the way it's described is more reminiscent of a fever dream or LSD trip or something than anything else. Him describing how the "gas" kept knocking him unconscious makes it sounds like he was poisoned or overdosed on something.

Thanks for giving me a new look at my area. My sister will really be interested as she and our mom swore they saw a UFO crash not far from McClellan back in the 70s. 100% agree, i would chalk it up to lying if he had tried to gain anything from it or deny it after it had ruined his life. would chalk it up to crazy if there wasn't another witness during a moonless night. leads me to believe 1 of two things actualy happened he went crazy for a bit but hid the signs of it from everyone in his life up to that point and the other guy was lying about what he had seen, or someone or something was running an experiment on him based on fear of what people thought visitors from space would look like at that time. given the things our government has done in the past i don't rule out either situation, i find it odd that so many people gave his story credit.
