    For what it's worth, as an independent tech, who works on everything people can drag to the shop, People are bringing in their 300,000, 400,000 and higher mileage Toyota vehicles, for inevitable repairs, while most others, are headed for the scrap yard around the 250K mark. I'm in Michigan, so most stuff rusts to death in 12-15 years, regardless of manufacturer. Just my observation. In 30+ years of wrenching, my family fleet is mostly Toyota now.

    @@fettaboyproductions6022there are quality problems with the lexus gx and other new models. Even lexus lx 600 isnt prone to such issues. The biggest indicator of falling quality levels of lexus lx is the sound system of lx 60/ . Compare it to the ancient one offered in 570. The sound system in 570 was the top 5/=best systems to come out of the factory. Sound if was insane. Only one reviewer tests the sound system. The gx550 has plastic all over unfortunately. No beige interior. No aluminium grill instead a plastic unfinished one.

    For a new vehicle with only 14k miles there should be absolutely zero issues with it. The dealer should fix completely especially if you are saying that there’s a rust issue I can’t believe on such a new vehicle. I avoid buying vehicles with a sunroof just because stuff gets in the drain holes and clogs also causing leaks. Good luck Ben .

    In all honesty Ben, it depends on what the problem was and how it was fixed. For example... If it was just a harness issue that was affected by moisture, this is an easy fix and may never be a problem again if proper repaired. You may be able to slow or stop the rust as long as the leak is plugged. As long as there are no other weird voltergeists lingering within, you may have a good vehicle to keep without any other major issues. Harness and corrosion issues are some of the hardest problems to find but are also cheap & easy to correct and prevent from happening again. Just my 2 cents.

  • @MrTabak73
    @MrTabak73Ай бұрын

    IMO keep it...odds are it will run forever at this point...every car has a gremlin hidden somewhere...you found yours early and fixed in...seal the wireharness area, stop water from getting in anywhere and enjoy. Changing cars at this point only opens you up to another car with another issue that you don't know about...

    Toyota and Lexus does not have universal reliability across their entire lineup of vehicles a complete fallacy to believe that. Toyota Corolla Hybrid, Toyota RAV4 Hybrid, Toyota 4Runner 4.0L V6, Lexus GX 460 and many others have high reliability. But they should be made in Japan and the ones I mentioned don't have turbo charged engines. Don't believe that a new Toyota Land Cruiser with a turbo engine is going to be as reliable as a naturally aspired engine. FYI I own and drive a 2021 Lexus GX 460 4.6L V8, 2022 Toyota RAV4 XLE Hybrid in Silver and 2023 Toyota RAV4 SE Hybrid in Cavalry Blue. I use 91 Octane premium gas in all my vehicles. The Lexus GX 460 and two RAV4 Hybrids are made in Japan and so far not a single problem they run perfect.

    There are 3500 owners of a 2021 Land Cruiser 200 series in the United States. I’m one of them. It’s been the line messy of cars. I’ve had it for three years and it drives like it’s brand new. It’s the best vehicle I’ve ever owned. It’s the best vehicle money can buy. Mine will run for another 20 years and I will pass it down to my son. Again not to beat the dead horse perhaps is the one percent but the Land Cruiser 200 series is quite the best vehicle ever made. I think that’s not debatable.

    It might have been someone that has forgotten to close the sunroof on days/months while sitting on the lot and caused that water damage. Then the interior might have been soaked and got musty. Then they decided to clean/detail it. After cleaning, everything looks good smells good and a few days after, the musty smell is there so they might have ventilated it and dried it. And after those remedies, they might have tried to mask the smell with cologne to minimize detection. I remember we tried to buy a low mileage BMW X6 a few years back and the car was in excellent condition like 9/10 with low mileage for the year model and the price was reasonable. We’ve test driven it and keenly observed it in decent daylight and I can’t find a fault. I have this gut feeling that they are hiding something so we decided to have it Pre-purchased inspected at a BMW dealer. They kinda hesitated at first and pressured us to buy the car if the PPI was OK and it was written on the contract. So we agreed, Inspection appointment day came and they were late for some reason. The BMW dealer that conducted the inspection noted that the car arrived extremely clean, however, the OBD2 port cover in laying on the driver seat footwell with greasy stains near the OBD port and under dashboard. Well, what do you know. The car seems to have been in an accident on its entire right side. (clean carfax) There are fine water level marks on the passenger side doors, the liftgate was no aligned and there are mud in the electrical harnesses on the door. (car suspected to have been in a ditch with water on its right side). BMW ran ISTA diagnostics and all the electrical faults show up, such as side impact airbag fault, door lock fault, fuel cap fault and a bunch of other electrical faults. Good thing we did a PPI. it was a potential money pit and above all a safety concern.

    Sorry you're having issues and it has soured your opinion of your Land Cruiser. If it were me, even though the issues appear to have been resolved, they would always linger in the back of my mind and wondering when they would return. I'd never be 100% happy with the vehicle again. I think it might be time to sell it and buy another one. There are lessons learned here though :). Even when you're buying from a "dealer friend". always insist on a pre-purchase inspection (I would never EVER buy any used vehicle without one, not even a Toyota) which should always include an odbii scan. You would have been able to tell if there were codes that had been previously reset. If the sunroof isn't leaking, the next place I would check is where the roof rack mounts. Maybe look for a 2020 with low milage and stay away from the 2021 which I've heard of having a few common issues.

    That's great that the wiring was repairable. A few pictures of what was going on there would be cool to see. I’m 58 years old. To me these newer vehicles rusting out. Is mind-boggling. I get it a car 30 years old rusty totally understandable. But a five-year-old vehicle with rust issues. Didn’t Toyota have rusty frame issues. Along with General Motors. What are they mixing into the metals that they use for a car that rusts so quickly. It’s unacceptable.

    Ben, I feel for you--it's a horrible feeling to not have confidence in your vehicle, and especially this one I believe is for your wife and child to cruise around in, correct? Sounds like it may be time to bid farewell to this one, and find another vehicle that you'll feel better about providing solid, dependable transportation for your wife and child. Toyotas usually are reliable (I am on my 9th Toyota), but it doesn't mean that one once in a while slips through the cracks, just wasn't built quite well enough, etc., but this is a disturbing problem this early on with this car. You solved A problem (the airbag light) for now, but not sure it is THE problem (i.e., how's moisture getting in there?), and if the root problem isn't solved, then it is not a matter of if but rather "when" that root problem causes ancillary problems down the road. Feels like 3rd and long deep in your own territory, so time to punt!

    Dude, it's not an $8k repair. You call that "neutral news"? That's fantastic news! As far as where the water is coming from, how many possibilities are there? How many holes are up there that could leak water? Around the antenna? Around the roof rack hardware? You said in a previous video that Toyota will only warranty the work if there's a leak, right? Then prove to them that there's a leak and try again. But even if they won't do a warranty repair: I don't know for sure, but there can't be too many options of where the leak is coming from. Seal those locations up and fix the leak, then enjoy the truck without taking a big loss. That's my opinion. But if you just want to replace it because you have a KZread channel and are looking for new content, than that ROI decision is yours to make.

    Check the roof rack seals/screws, dumb folks who don’t know a thing about turning a wrench can mess things up by accident.
