FAQ:
1) "What's the name of that theme song?" It's called "Whatever," performed by Trevor Fisher and The Special Ones.
2) "Why are there so many lighters on the beach?" Ninety percent of the plastic trash in the oceans comes from city streets. A dog knocks over a trash can, the trash goes in the gutter, the gutter goes to a sewer, the sewer goes to a river, the river goes to the sea. The sea grinds most of it up into microparticles, but lighters are made to hold compressed gas; they are enormously strong and durable. They'll float around for years and never even lose their bright colors. Most of the lighters I find were probably used by street food vendors in Yangon to light their charcoal braziers.
3) "Aren't you afraid of tsunamis?" There has never been a tsunami on Turtle Beach and there never will be one. Tsunamis are only dangerous in shallow water; it's very, very deep right offshore here. That's one reason the turtles like it here.
4) "What if Turtle Beach becomes overdeveloped?" Very little chance of that, and if it happens it will because they finally build the international airport in Phang Nga. But even then, the geology of the place is against development. Even if they someday revoke the protected status of the national park, it will still be too deep to anchor a boat here, so no yachts, no speed boats, no long-tail boats. No jet skis or parasailing. Also, we are not in a bay, protected by headlands, like any tourist beach you can name. Six months out of every year the wind comes off the sea like a freight train. In two years I've paid twice to have my front doors repaired; they were literally blown off their hinges.
5) Why do you keep touching your face? I have pretty good OCD, and one of my compulsions is to touch my nose, mouth, chin, ears, eyebrows, and hair when I'm stressed or excited. I also repeat words and phrases. At the moment I'm big into "typically..." Between 2003 and 2007 I was housebound with social anxiety disorder. I suffer from insomnia and stress-related vertigo. Just a few of the quaint, endearing things that make Steve Rosse the relatable Everyman that he is.
6) "Steve, you're a narcissist." Yeah, I say as much in almost every video. I was diagnosed with narcissistic personality disorder when I was seventeen years old. I am an only child of a single parent, so narcissism is page one in the DSM. That's why you won't ever see anybody else on this channel. No meet-ups with other vloggers, no interviews, no walk-n-talks on crowded streets or in markets. It's always just Steve, alone in some deserted place, so that the focus always remains on Steve. But thanks for that facile and ill-informed diagnosis, Doctor Obvious. Are you going to send me a bill for all that insight?
7) "Steve, sometimes you react aggressively to comments." No shit, Sherlock?

Hello Steve, I'm the guy who showed up at your doorstep during your 3 days-vow of silence. We are on our way back to Bkk now, and, yes, I contemplated going back to Thai Muang to say hello again but we finally went East on our way back. There was no disappointment because all I wanted anyway was to say hello, shake your hand and see with my own eyes the beach that I've seen a hundred times on your videos. I got to do all three, so life is good. I will do another, longer road trip to the south and maybe then we'll share a cup of coffee. Take care P Sa-teef.

My Turtle Beach is not one specific place but the ability to travel anywhere I want around Asia at any time I like. I can socialise or not at my discretion, and spending extended time at places gives a good insight into the social constructs and meeting people with genuine smiles. And shorts and shirt lifestyle is also an important aspect of my Turtle Beach

Speaking of heat rash....I just got back from Thailand which was shit hot.We went to the local Talay Sap(recreational lake) 2days before I left and had to drive home with damp shorts). Anyway I got home to Irland. and the day I arrived back I had a rash on my butt cheeks which was spreading down my legs.. Caution don't do as I did and self diagnose from Google. My self diagnosis was Lukemia.😂.I eventually made it to the doctor and was diagnosed with Candida,a fungal infection. The equivalent of 6,000 baht was required for doctor and meds.. Thankfully clearing up now very quickly

The story of the swiftlets reminds me of the swallows (same ‘branch’ of bird) that built nests against the walls of houses (close to the roof). They supposedly used mud, not sure if saliva was involved. It was said that spring was coming, when the swallows arrived from warmer locations. Unfortunately, I have not seen any swallows for years now, and I assume present buildings are not suitable anymore for them to build nests. Worse still, maybe people did not want the birds to build nests against the walls, and took measures.

  • @steverosse

    @steverosse

    3 ай бұрын

Right? But I think the whole idea of social anxiety is unknown to Thais. Their rules of social interaction are so ingrained that they give them no thought. In his world he is free to squat next to me on a public beach. His beach, not mine. He's four years older than me and King of the Beach. The guy's out there all hours of the day and night meeting the returning fishermen, buying and then reselling their catch. He's a very big fish in this little pond. Lived here his whole life, never even been to Bangkok. But yeah, he was right on top of me and it made me twitchy. Oh well. Still room for improvement in Steve's psyche, I guess.

I enjoyed the couple interruptions by the locals. They seem to like "Steve the farang". We Westerners like our space and will avoid interfering with other people's solitude. I no longer reserve a seat at a cinema ahead of time. I'll wait 3-5 minutes before the movie starts and then purchase my ticket and choose my seat location from the screen which shows which seats are taken. There could be only 15-20 people watching the same movie on an afternoon, but Thais tend to choose a seat next to where someone else is sitting. despite a whole theatre with 200+ seats. I don't need to hear people munching on their popcorn, unwrapping the cyclophane off the box of gummies or looking at their phones. I want my space 555 The situation about your cousin is sad and definitely gives us "seniors" a reality check not to complain about our aches and pains (...too much).

I only mentioned it on FB and on Tim's channel. I never mentioned it on my own channel. But the young Asian woman said, "He watches you every day." I'm not on every day. I think she was thinking I was Tim. I was misidentified as Collin Piprell this week on FB. We all look alike.

#1. There is a 'ZOOM' on that camera. No tutorial necessary. #2. Not every picture has to be a selfie. WHY are you on a 'social media' platform if you are engaged in a 'vow of silence'??? isn't THAT a breech of the vow in and of itself? Isn't the PURPOSE of the VOS to disengage from all of the discourse?

@@steverosse Yea, I suppose a vow of silence isn't a vow of not perusing other people's lack thereof. Does make you wonder what a vow of silence would likely sound like. White noise? Or is that racist? Is it still noise? Should it be "noise of no particular color"? Are you still allowed to bang the drums in a vow of silence? Or is it simply the vocal renditions of noise? What about snoring, for example. That's noise but not created specifically by the larynx or vocal folds specifically. Just wondering about the nitty-gritty. You know?? How do you define the silence? Must you also sit in a quiet place, for example? Perhaps you should take a vow of meditation with your vow of silence?

Steve, you should at least choose well who you are going to annoy. BKK Pat is one of the most admired and hard working KZreadr online . He obviously puts in a lot of historical research and walking on the ground all over Bangkok before he shoots a video, something you will obviously never be known for. I have always watched his presentations to the end, when I rarely even can stand watching yours for very long before I leave. You even declare yourself, seemingly with pride, to be an annoying person, which should in fact bring you to make an effort to being a better person. I am not an English speaker myself, but I make my best effort, so sorry if I made any errors in this message, but I doubt that you would forgive me anyway, since you seem to take such joy in criticizing other people rather than creating a really interesting and diverse channel as Pat has while putting so much work into it, contrary to your productions.
