My Thoughts on the Daysy

A few months ago I was approached by Daysy to test out their fertility calculator. Yes! I thought. I've been asked by so many of you about fertility calculators, and her was my chance to get my hands on one and share it with you.
[So, yes, I was sent the Daysy, but the opinions expressed are my own]

    Lauren Wallace I just ordered mine last night. I’m worried because I watched a video of a FAM instructor saying it’s not worth it because it only tracks temps and predicts ovulation based on previous cycles. And to practice it correctly and more effectively that we need to take into account all 3 fertility signs like cervical fluid, position and temps. I’m so confused on what to do! Like maybe just track with a regular basal thermometer and the daysy? But then she said that can become confusing and you can second guess your own chart ugh

I wouldn’t say it’s bad or not as it’s your decision. It also has another negative side that you should be 3 hours sleeping constantly and not to move from the bed once wake up until you get your temp done!.

    It's based on the same technology (and algorithm) - however with LadyComp your chart details are shown on the device, whereas with Daysy it syncs to your smartphone and the free DaysyView app. Also, with Daysy you don't have to wake up the same time to take your temp every day, and you need only 3 hours of consecutive sleep prior to taking your temp. :)

    Hey Ashley - the difference mainly is that LadyComp shows everything on the device itself - full chart, analysis, fertility status - whereas with Daysy you have the option to sync with the free DaysyView app on your smart phone to see your chart etc. I personally just use the Daysy device and get my fertility status every day from the display (red light - fertile day, green light - non fertile day).

    You can't use Daysy while you're still taking the Pill. If you want to get into the habit of taking your temp, you can just use a regular thermometer to create this habit and then transition to Daysy when you come off the Pill. Otherwise you would be feeding Daysy bad data and you would not be getting the correct readings anyway as you are not ovulating on the Pill. You'd then have the completely reset Daysy to use her properly when off the Pill. But to establish the habit of waking up and taking your temp, you could use a regular thermometer and then transition.

    BBT can only show you that you've ovulated, and when you've started a new cycle. So, I can see where it could be tricky to use when trying to conceive. I'd definitely look into charting cervical fluid if trying to get pregnant, that's where the magic is!

  • @FemmeHead

    It's your personal preference, but I would say to use condoms at first regardless of the light color. While the Daysy factors in time to learn your cycle (giving you more red and yellow days) if pregnancy is not an option for you play it safe :) Then after a few cycles you can move to either avoiding intercourse or using condoms during the red and yellow days.

    Daysy is built to deal with a certain amount of irregularity because that's normal. It is accurate for everyone regardless of your cycles, however if you have super irregular cycles you will probably get more yellow and red days than green days. But the readings will still be as accurate.

    The 99.4 % effective study was retracted from the scientific journal it was published in due to inaccurate methods. It was a single survey sent with 13% responders, or 125 participants. The study excluded all women that had used daysy for less than 13 months. So...Im just guessing here...An unknown amount of women got pregnant and quit using daysy bc of being pregnant in the first year. They were not surveyed. Although it seems like a good addition to symptothermal method, I would be wary of relying solely on this item alone to prevent pregnancy unless I can find better studies.

Because I was reading through the comments and one of the replies you had said that sperm can only survive in FERTILE fluid (so on the days you're ovulating) If this is so, then I'm guessing it would be okay? it's not that hard! i promise! and its really empowering! there are only 4 rules, and if you read "Taking Charge of Your Fertility"" by Toni Weschler you will learn all of them! I really recommend it. I dont like machines. ive seen tons of Lady Comp and Daysy pregnancies

    +Justyna Anna Granicka yeah I've got the book already hehe :) I just have to keep referring back to it all the time lol. But I agree I wouldn't wanna rely just on a machine I know it takes your basal body temperature but that's all I think. I know that kindara uses BBT, CF and CP so I would assume that that's much more accurate.

    Justyn - I doubt you've see "tons" of LC or Daysy pregnancies - in fact I checked in with the team and they have seen 1 as the result of user error in almost a decade. The devices are 99.3% accurate and medically certified, they would not get this pearl index rating or certification if that were true. Wink may be the right choice for some - but I wouldn't say it's "better" - it's a totally different device - a regular basal body thermometer that stores data, with blutooth capabilities. Whereas Daysy and LC give you your fertility status for the day without any charting or interpretation required. Thanks.

    I read this on Daysy's website: "It is important that you measure right after waking up, before getting up, but it doesn't matter what time of day it is. The more regularly you measure, the more green days Daysy will be able to give."

  • @MegInWhispers

    You don't NEED to take it at the same time daily with Daysy, but trying to be consistent with temping can help to ingrain it as a habit for you. With regular BBT thermometers (not the Daysy, which is a Fertility Monitor - something different) you do need to temp daily within the same 1 hour period.

    Aaliyah Hamid I just don't understand because what if you have gotten seamen inside you on a green day and the next day is a red day? seamen can live in the vagina for up to 5 days, so how will you manage not to get pregnant?

  • @iamalexandra.

    @iamalexandra.

    7 жыл бұрын

    Maria Normann You can only get pregnant on the day you ovulate, therefore you'll have 7 red days: 5 days before you ovulate, the day you ovulate and the following day.

    This may be a dumb question, but since sperm is relentless and they're tiny stone-cold killers, staying alive outside the body for days and days, should you still use condoms even during your safe days? Because how long are you actually safe? Like say I'm safe today but not tomorrow, but we just had unprotected sex. What does it mean??

  • @FemmeHead

    @FemmeHead

    7 жыл бұрын

    Sperm can live in fertile fluid for up to five days, which are normally the five days leading up to the ovulation. I always tell women who are first learning to chart, and using it as birth control, to use condoms. That is until you learn and understand how to properly chart.

  • @MegInWhispers

    @MegInWhispers

    Sperm cannot live outside of the body for days and days. It will die in about 30 mins, tops, in inhospitable conditions (basically anywhere except a fertile vagina). Sperm can live for up to 5 days, but only in fertile cervical fluid. The Daysy takes this into account as part of its high efficacy rate! A green day is a safe day with Daysy, but you can of course always use condoms and/or withdrawal if that makes you feel more comfortable.

  • @FemmeHead

    @FemmeHead

    8 жыл бұрын

    With normal charting you have 7 days a month you are fertile. Five days before ovulation because sperm can survive for up to 5 days in fertile fluid. And two days after ovulation to cover the lifespan of the egg. I definitely think you should start charting as soon as you get off the pill so you can see what's happening to your cycle. Does it return to normal? Are you not ovulating?

    Hi Holly! Do you need to wait til after you finish your withdrawal bleed? I also thought I saw on the Daysy FAQ section that you should wait for your first real period to start before starting -- but I don't wanna wait a whole month before I can use it! By the way, I LOVED your episode on the Fertility Friday podcast. It really helped a lot in my decision to get off the pill ASAP. Thank you!

    Rebeca - When you use a condom on red or yellow days, you are then relying upon the efficacy of the condoms themselves during your most fertile time. Condom efficacy can vary between perfect use and actual use, so make sure you're using them perfectly. Again, it's not the act of using Daysy that causes the effectivness of 99.3%, it's the fact that you're using the fertility indicator lights to decide how to time your intercourse to avoid the fertile time entirely, or to use protection during the fertile time. You could also with condoms + withdrawal - AGAIN as long as BOTH are done CORRECTLY

    This definitely looks cool, but I hate to see KZread ladies hating on hormonal BC. Starting the Pill has been nothing but amazing for me, and it works for millions of women. It's just one of the many BC methods out there. I say whatever works for you, go for it.

    She's not "hating on" hormonal BC, she shared her bad experiences and the research she has found. She is giving us the facts that our doctors didn't tell us in the first place. They don't tell you the important short/long term negative effects that can happen because that's bad for business. FemmeHead (Victoria) had a bad experience with it and she wanted to find out why so she did and now she is helping ladies everywhere. It's great that hormonal BC has made your life better, but it's not the case for every woman.

    +Sarah I definitely understand that, and I agree that everyone should go with whatever works for her, but if your doctor isn't giving you all of the information about your medications, you need to find a different doctor who will. When comparing hormonal BC methods, my doctor shared all of the pros and cons with me, including the short and long term effects of taking the pill.

    You're lucky then, but I doubt she/he told you that birth control is a class 1 carcinogen which is equal to asbestos and cigarettes! The doctors didn't tell me there were other options; it was either get on birth control or risk getting pregnant when you have sex. Unfortunately I think this happens a lot more than you would think. They also didn't warn me that BC can cause, for example, UTI's and vaginal infections. They don't tell you what exactly birth control is doing to our bodies. In one of FemmeHead's videos she actually talked about this and I believe she said that BC alters 150 bodily functions and effects all of your organs! I digress...the original point was that FemmeHead, and KZreadrs with similar channels, are sharing their reasons for not taking birth control and spreading important information for women who weren't already informed. They aren't "hating on" hormonal birth control just because they stopped taking it. Knowledge is power and you will do what you will with it.

    Then please tell me how I'm supposed to deal with my menstrual cramps, excruciating pain every single month. I eat right, exercise daily and keep my stress level low. Its genetics, my mother has had them, her sisters have them and my grandmother has them. You think people just pop pills without learning for themselves the potential side affects. Do you think that given those risks, the FDA would approve a drug that is so widely used? Without trying to better it? You make me think of the vaccination fanatics and their autism theories.
