Someone on Scubaboard contacted PST after their SP expired in 2022. As they no longer are in the scuba industry the expiration isn't on their radar, but they seem to be glad to renew it when contacted. So waiting and contacting PST politely seems the best course of action.

Yes they did renew 9791, 2 months late but it's good until November 2026. I did a updated video on these tanks after seeing the renewal.

I have been told that some rust is acceptable in that they can be tumbled with polishing to remove the bad areas on the inside. What was your determination as to how much rust constitutes a non-repairable tank? Thanks for the excellent video!

Yes, some rust can be removed. Watch my most recent video " How to VIP Galvanized Steel HP Scuba Tanks" I show examples of interior rust.

Geesh ...When I "retired" 15 years ago or so ..I gave 4 steel and 1 alum 80 to a friend... the 80 was a replacement warrantied as I had 1 of the cracked neck ones and they gave you a new one for it back then ..Don't think he has even used them ..Gonna need to check them now ..Learning a Lot from you ...Thanks

The crack necks started sometime in the 90's and your right Luxfer was replacing the cylinder only. It's easy to spot those replacement, because the valves are much older than the tanks. I very appreciate you viewing my channel, stay tuned many more videos to come.

i have a Faber sp13488. how do i know or find out that the sp has been renewed. thank you for you time and your videos.

SP 13488 is current, the expiration date is Nov. 30, 2025. Faber has been renewing on time and I don't foresee any permits issues. Thanks for watching!

interesting, but do all steel tanks require a SP? Do aluminum tanks have a retirement date?

Sorry for the delay in responding, I've been busy with summer time madness. Steel tanks that have a 3A or 3AA are not special permit tanks. They are manufactured to DOT specs and are considered forever thanks as long as they past hydro test. Aluminum tanks don't have expiration dates, they are 3AL which is DOT specs. In the 1970's aluminum tanks did have SP, however they did away with that. Thanks for the question.

Those tanks are now expired permit 9791. No longer serviceable as of 09/30/2022. I’m gonna do a video explaining the expiration. If you would like to talk about, give me a call on Monday I’ll be in shop all day Thanks for watching.

The tanks & valves I have are for VIP class I teach, however I will keep an eye out for any more that come in. Since the tanks are expired I suspect many of my customers will leave them with me to dispose. I will keep you in mind.
