For those new to this type of compressor. That unit there goes by many brand name stamped onto it nothing wrong with that but you should know. Now the most important thing is just because the packaging states no oil or water needed you must still do pre maintenance and even a partial rebuild down the road relative to how often you use it. These run hot so us in the pcp air rifle world have learned not to push it. Sure it can do up to the 4500psi in a 0.5L as stated in the manual. We recommend running it up to 7 or so minutes Not 10 not 15 but around 7 or 8 minutes a session. Depressurize the line and w/fan running let it cool back down to room temp. Keep any metal to metal moving (talking about the bracket from the motor to piston rod) greased. Consider this a very light duty compressor and with some TLC you may get several years out of it. My first one was D.O.A and had to be replaced (metal to metal very nasty friction sounds) the one bearing on the motor bracket adapter was not properly greased or aliened. Have fun Be Safe high air pressures are no joke.

Having to use a new filter for each refill makes it sound like you will be going through a ton of the active coal and molecular sieve.

Depending on how many times you fill it, for sure. Think of this as a backup to filling from a full scuba tank.

This looks like a branded version of a Chinese compressor you can get on eBay (there are several, with the Yong Heng being the most ubiquitous). Not sure I'd trust the activated charcoal and molecular sieve to be much more than regular charcoal and clay beads. Personally I think I'd go for a used shoebox compressor since it's made in the US and the maker was well known in the paintball industry. Also, is that tank TC approved?

There are so many similar or white labeled products, this may be that but its better made than most and works.

I use one of those cheap yong heng compressors on Amazon. Haven’t used it a lot yet but works fine. Just gotta give it a break once in awhile. It has the same filter setup as the compressor in the video but with only a fiber filter. That’s definitely ni enough so I bought two of those 12 inch filters that have refillable cartridges. I use the fiber filter first then daisy chain a 12 inch half full of silica to remove moisture. Other half is 13x molecular sieves to capture any fumes from the compressor and I believe they also capture carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide. The second long filter has is 1/4 full of more moleculer sieves and the rest activated charcoal. Air comes out with zero smell or taste. You can also buy a cheap foundry to reactivate the sieves and charcoal but haven’t tried that yet. I’d recommend to anyone using these small cheap compressors to upgrade the filter setup.

They use SCUBA compressors not aliexpress compressors and they use proper scuba filters on those compressors, some of them are rebuildable, some of them not, but the manufacturer of the proper SCUBA compressor offers the rebuilding materials not a company that rebrands some shit out of aliextress/china and sells it as mini scuba/dive system.

@@chiranagheorghitaeugeniuth98 it uses all the same principles. Scuba shop compressors are just beefed up versions. They use the same materials for the filter media. Hell alec has a video on here with small gas engine ran compressors. That’s riskier than electric powered. I will say that No one should fill their own tanks unless they do the research

It is but just for mini tanks.

Although the compressor it neat, I don’t think it’s practical. They say the compressor uses 280 Watts and runs for 20 minutes to fill the tank. About 23 amps running on 12V, using 8 amp hours per fill. Most car batteries are around 50 amp hours, only a few fills and hard on the battery. The filter media costs $50 and lasts for about 50 fills. Not sure how often they recommend replacing oil but it costs $30. Probably adds a couple dollars to each fill. The worst part is the price. It costs over $1000! For that money you could buy a aluminum 80 and a spare air. Use the 80 to fill the spare air and pay a dive store $10 to get a over a dozen fills on your spare air. No compressor repair, no oil changes, much less possibility of breathing bad air, and cheaper. The 80 also holds its value much better or use it when you upgrade to full scuba gear.

Good points but the one key point the compressor is for filling mini tanks up to 2L or 10 cu/ft only. Anyone can try to fill a 80 cu/ft but you will probably be a lot older when it fills. Thanks for watching KT.

I checked the specs and i believe it mentioned 12 minutes to fill a 0.5l bottle, (was some hours ago) so about 4.5 hours to fill a AL80 (11.1l). Also the filter was for one filling only (0.5l), so you would need to replace the filter about 22 times for one fill of an AL80 :)

@@Atrinax Maybe, not entirely sure, my compressor has a kind of fixed fill rate regardless of pressure, maybe this one does not? Anyhow my point was this is a kind of useless compressor for anything scuba. For filling suit gas bottles, I would rather then steal some gas from my other tanks with a hose

@@nilotubes I am happy that smart guys in the comments point out that it is more efficient to use bigger tank to fill a smaller tank. There is a comment that says that you better spend only $100 on AL80 and spare air than invest $1000 in this high maintenance gimmick.

I believe the power adapter has built in 110/220 capability. It's in a box till diving season opens in Canada. Won't be reviewing the 2L tank but there are probably KZread videos covering it out already. Thanks for watching Ozzy. A.

I dove last week with someone who slings a 6cf spare air which I found ridiculous until I saw his low sac rate. He can get five minutes from one unless you account for duress maybe adding some additional breathing requirement. I suppose it's reasonable to a handful of people as a better than nothing option. The majority of divers would be much better served with a larger pony bottle. The mini integrated scuba systems are only good for certified divers who want to do three minutes underwater for some reason. (Getting something off a boat propeller?) They seem dangerous for anyone else, though I don't know of many reports of related issues, because it required a bike pump in the past. The ability for the untrained to refill them easily and put themselves or their families in danger only exacerbates the issue of misunderstanding pressures near the top of the water column or trying to extend a free dive by holding a compressed air breath.

Good points Joshua. Like many mini tanks, this is a limited use for short and shallow dives or a BC vest inflator if your a vintage diver. Many items in our lives can be dangerous when not used properly: example cars, guns. Just read smart phones taking selfies kill 4x more people than sharks. We still use them right?

New diver here, love your videos and have learned quite a lot! One question, will dive centers give me the stink eye if I only travel with a second stage instead of the whole regulator?

Your going to need a 1st stage, either rent, borrow or buy. Also your 2nd stage needs to be balanced to the Intermediate Pressure from the 1st stage. So having a complete unit, serviced and balanced will make your diving much easier.

I am a Padi Advanced diver. I'm interested for safety reason. I use an airbuddy dive compressor and have only on air supply and no backup (airbuddy is limited to 12 meter). Having a mini emergency bottle in case of failure or air depletion can save your life or can make you go out of water without make an emergency ascent if you are in low deep water. So after 2 years, how about this product ? Safe to use with the mini compressor (no air quality problems ? (I will only refull at home with 230v so no gas problems). In fact, good video and explanation.

If you're doing regular scuba dives greater than 10', a hooka or surface supply with a redundant reserve setup (tank & reg) is a good solution. Anything deeper/longer, go full scuba gear for safety and good air from a LDS. Being safe is smart. A

There are connections from a HP tank to a cylinder. Only way to fill slow is to sloooooowwwwwwllllllyyyyyy open the tank valve and watch the pressure gauge increase. If it takes about 2 minutes, should be fine. A

Manual says its only rated for up to 2L or 10 cu/ft. They have bigger models for 80's but that may be for another day.

I have lots of knives (somewhere between 40 and 100) in my kitchen and none are SCUBA ones. I keep that in my SCUBA kit along with one of my medic scissors.

Oh I do have them lying around. Open my knife drawer and there may be a 8 inch US Divers in there, just in case.

Yes, absolutely. Look for previous videos on redundant air S04E10 for a starter.

Would you trust this without a dangerous fumes monitor. It looks like it would fill air gun tanks. Do they make a monitoring system that could be added when using in the garage. I’ve heard a regular size tanks take hours to fill and after 10, you need to cool them off. PLEASE RVSP. WHAT IS THE COST OR THE SYSTEM YOU DISPLAYED.

The filters have particle and some moisture removal. This setup is not for full scuba tanks, just mini up to 2L redundant tanks. There is always a hand pump! A.

Is there anything specifically about this compressor, that makes it a Diving Compressor made for tanks that differentiates it from a standard compressor you’d fill a car tire with or something you’d find at Harbor Freight or Home Depot?

Well its only for tanks up to 2L, has specific temperature cut offs, air filters. May find similar but remember its not the compressor that is important but the air quality you breath. A.

A tool compressor will put contamination and toxins (oil, etc...) Into the air and you'd poison yourself. Air toxicity is nothing to take lightly.

Geese that little compressor can fill an 80cu tank. What about humid air? There is no desiccant?

Sorry but its rated only for up to 2L size. It could fill larger but it would be a long surface interval waiting to fill a 80. Take care Joe.

The hand pump that came with my Dedepu setup is absolutely horrid. I'm 25 years old and build strong and it's insane to use. Not even worth using. I'm looking for an electric pump that is on a good Budget! Love your videos you got my sub!

Only works of a/c current from a house. Not enough power from a 12v car system to power the pump. A

No taste at all if filled properly. For shallow dives it fine. A

I got one of these type compressors for a little 3Liter. Can confirm they work and air tastes great but I have a slightly upgraded filter

These little tanks are fine for their intended purpose, short & shallow dives. Like everything from scissors to cars, up to the owner to know and understand the products safety and operating procedures (I know it's a lot to ask). Thanks for watching. A

I can see this used as an emergency water egress system for aircrews flying helicopter overwater operations or small seaplanes that have a tendency to flip with improper landing technique. The user wouldn't be deeper than 20 ft. and wouldn't need that much capacity, also the carbon fiber has less of a weight penalty. (probably not approved for this purpose FAA or insurance wise but still better than nothing)

Only topped up my dive bottle once running through filter given plus an additional, the fittings have corroded within a week. Hate to think what inside of bottles like and the pneumatics its pumped up.

This was a good unit. I have seen many, many compressors both small (like this) up to commercial units. For filling mini tanks, perfect!

This is rated for 2 Litre size tanks. A 80 would be a looooong time but there are more efficient and faster solutions to regularly fill 80's. A

You'd need to keep the engine running to avoid a flat battery. So I see a potential contamination risk, especially if the user is untrained and doesn't realise how important that filter is

The best thing I would use that compressor would be for car tyre inflation and that mini tank would look slick as a argon drysuit inflation bottle :) And one more point here: I saw a couple of vids on these toys but this is the most dangerous to put up there. What is your sincere opinion about you doing this: You are promoting a compressor + tank + reg to the wide untrained world.Why a dive store would not fill your tank unless you put cards on the table and check your tank inspection? Why a dive store would never rent regulators to uncertified divers? Why rebresther companies will not even sell you a rebreather unless you prove you are certified or during training? Than why do you accept these companies and this one specifically. It is like " we will sell everything for someoane to be able to kill himself very very fast". I refused to show to my father-in-law how to use dive gear because I am no instructor and he is uncertified. Would you? Really curious on your argument here. Do not get me wrong , I admire you a lot and you have some pretty good info in most of the vids but I really do not agree to what are you doing related to these products....They are dangerous and there are a lot of stupid people in this world. Just and example: someoane will fill that tank with that compressor near the car thatvhas engine running, not drainingvthe battery, and will put some carbon monoxide inside that tank. After that that person will take that underwater... I think that chances that his wife and 2 kids to light up some candles in the same day are very very big, indirect proportional to the size and wheight of that "scuba tank"..... does this ring some bells?

I knew there would be these comments.. guys these products have been out there for years and there are many brands.. at some point you have to accept they are here to stay.. there are inherent risks with many activities that can lead to injury or death and we have to trust people will read and understand the product they are using, I see people using these in shallow rivers, I haven't yet read about anyone using it as a primary air source for open water diving .. dive hookahs have been out for even longer than these and people successfully use them. The dive community needs to ease up a bit and welcome the innovation.

I know about hookahs but do not compare. The hookahs are used in conjunction with a dive operator or some of them, which are very dangerous for non divers, are a floating gas engine with a tube that goes to the diver. But this "pony" is ridiculous. With the hookahs the out of air is less probable, at least with a full tank and engine running , but with this... 5 breaths and you are out and in panic. I hope I will not get the chance to read a death report on DAN about these..... Yes they are on the market for some time but they were coming with a hand pump and after pumping 1/4 of a cylinder everyone would have thrown them away , but now with a chinese compressor? with no proper filtration? I knew a guy who was breathing from a oil contaminated cylinder. Imagine what happened in 3 years with him... We had an accident in our country with 2 "specialists" that were in the water with less than minimal equipment. Imagine what happened to both in 3 meter water. And now a complete filling and barely minimal diving apparatus is being sold to the wide public... crazy times. Accept and agree with these??? Let's go back than to the J-valve and no SPG or computer.. it's much safer. I strongly think that the international safety organizations should put a ban on the sale of these. People back 20 years ago were much more careful with their lives and used to read the manuals, now almost 80% don't even bother tacking the manual out of the pouch. Come on what are we talking about. Have the agencies do a pony diving intro course and yes, than it would be great. I see divers first time in dry suit, uncertified for dry usage, that put 25 kg of lead on them... and they at least have an idea about diving procedures and diving dangers. When accidents will start to arise because of these chinesium products the entire diving industry and diving community will be put in a really bad light, regulations will become absurd, and so on... and why? To put some money in a stupid chinese company's pockets?

The molecular sieves capture carbon dioxide and monoxide and moisture. The charcoal will catch what’s left.If you follow their directions and change the media often it is just fine. I use a cheap Chinese compressor but I use a 24 inch column of silica, Molecular sieves and charcoal.

I think 12 minutes on 0.5l is for marketing only. Because normal human consume 150l of atmosphere air in 5 minutes without activity. And this tank can contain 150l of air.

There are mini tanks up to 2.0 L or 10 cu/ft. Not intended to dive to 100 ft but for short and shallow dips.

hard to understand who will buy it? some amateur without proper training :-/ ? if you need spare air in case of emergency, buy a tank and refill it from your tank after dive or ask staff in dive shop or use handpump with twenty minutes of excercising :D ... if you have your own boat or swimming pool and need to do maintance you will definitely choose some hookah system because you need work more than few minutes. If you want to use it during snorkeling for something in the deep you will be limited too. Maybe it is possible to fill larger common tanks after looong time, but does it worth? fill tank with air costs 5 USD .. Alec you are great diver, the best diving youtuber, you made hundred short videos here and explain almost everything in excelent way here. Thank you for this, but ... pls don't do videos like this.

I though so too about who would buy it then my researched showed a LOT of folks buy these. Maybe like Christmas fruit cake, buy it, take one bit, put on shelf for 20 years but they do buy it.

Yes I have a spare air that I fill from a full size tank. But I have an interest in the mini compressors. ;)

If one doesn’t have a large compressor, this would do the trick for quick adjustments on the first and second stages or for checking performance after doing a service on your regulator set. All my regs are pre- 2000 and are simple enough to do myself(contrived). This would work for IP and breathing checks on 1st and 2nd stages. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Since this is not for full scuba diving, just short and shallow depths. The product manual says it many times but lets see what actual divers use it for.

Why did you not do an air quality test on the system? Send it in for analysis? What is the time to to fill an 80 cf cylinder? Did it die trying to fill a 80 cf cylinder? You were marketing this set up, seems you are? You are not Really telling what we need to know or was that the point. Market this system.....

The largest size tank the compressor is rated for is 2L or 10 cu/ft, and 80 would take a loooong time. As for air quality, if used right for short and shallow no air test is needed. The compressor has a temperature monitor to stop when too hot. Manual does not say what temp is too hot. A
