My scale model stash - Part 1 - 1/35 scale tanks and AFVs

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Scale model stash - many of us have one, but what's in mine? This question has been asked a few times in the comments section and via email so I thought I'd take this opportunity to share with you the 1/35 scale tanks, armoured vehicles, softskins, and the occasional railway wagon that I have in this scale. You can find many of the kits I have in my stash here: amzn.to/370Fk7H
I do try to build models rather than just collect them, but sometimes we buy quicker than we can build and paint! If you would like to see an inbox preview or a build of any of these kits, please do feel free to leave a comment below.
0:00 British vehicles
8:54 Soviet vehicles

    @@ModelNerd Would you believe I'm making a Revell typhoon on the floor of my living room. No table. No room anywhere else. My mate says I should buy a small table from argos. I've almost finished a problematic 1/24 Airfix spitfire with a major missing part. Dissapointed with Airfix but surprised to see in your video just how many model manufacturers there are. @@ModelNerd thanks for the comment. I did email Airfix technical but they no longer have the part available. The kit instructions where basic but did include glue and paint. The sprues were from seperate batch moulds. Most sprues where squarish, others where obviously newer presses, rounded with less flash. A lot of extra parts on the new sprues that wouldnt even fit on the kit, just to include a different propeller choice. The wings were warped but managed to fix them together with clamps. Gaps need filling before priming. It became a battle to complete but I'm nearly done. The typhoon is basic but so far it's a happier build. The problem spitfire is an Airfix 1;24 supermarine spitfire Mk Vb, skill level 4, box code A50141 with pilot Jan Zumbach featured on box art. As much of a disappointment it has been, the spitfire is a fantastically shaped plane. It was the first model I have made in over 40 years with basic equipment. I had to alter the undercarriage too to make it fit. Quite pleased with that alteration but it shouldnt have happened in a kit of this size. (There is a KZread video of a modeller encountering the same undercarriage problem I did, so I was glad it wasnt me being rubbish). I'll try and find the video for you and reply again with the link. I like 1;32 scale for fighters but also would like to try vehicles. I don't have access to an air brush though for the smooth paint job. Spray cans maybe? Have a good one.

    @@ModelNerd hi, sorry, I tried to find the KZread video of the frustrated modeller but couldn't find it. He had a cutting mat top view video of it. In addition with my experience, the pilot of the spitfire, cannot see over the canopy, he is too small! I painted the engine and spent a lot of time with interior parts that wouldnt even be seen. I know it can be used as a display to show exposed parts but I think a spitfire looks best in flight. I know dioramas are popular with ground crews etc but I'm not that experienced really. I did see a mouth watering video this week of a model warehouse tour and can understand how you have such a big stash of kits. KZread link is kzread.info/dash/bejne/omV8utKCm5DPZKQ.html

They were built before the likes ofnthe bergepanthers etc in the field and says it would have most certainly have been used for heavy Recovery with all the heavy Recovery stuff added to the bottom of the rear Hull like on the front! It's an interesting vehicle when you start digging right into it for information and what some of the original Recovery documents are avaliable from the crews it wasn't called a bergetiger that's a name given later on! Just thought it might have been a bit of interest in what I'd found myself on it! But yeah it's an early Recovery unit before there was any actually in production apparently

  • @ModelNerd

    @ModelNerd

    Жыл бұрын

    I'd always go with the excellent work done by Mike Starmer: Portland stone with Silver grey and slate. Light stone as an alternative to the Portland stone. The blue that was (is?) often discussed has been revealed to be a mistake originally made by a couple of well known museums (including IWM and the Tank Museum, I believe) which was then copied by others. The AK Real Colours of WW2 book, to which Mike Starmer contributed, is very good.

    Now I don't feel so guilty for having four unbuilt kits. I built the A39 Tortoise a couple of years ago, the wheel bogies are a bit of a challenge but it's quite a nice kit. I believe the Nuffield organisation built 6 or 7 A39's and the kit represents the first prototype P1 which lacks the side port of the others and was manufactured in mild steel - hence the red triangle cast on the hull. There is another one still in 'existence' on a firing range in Scotland, which is a complete wreck, some years ago a guy built a fantastic replica of it in a diorama.

    I should have given credit to the chap who did the replica of the Kirkcudbright range wreck - it was David Parker, he did an amazing job on the corrosion of the thin steel parts and the shot damage - if you can find any images they may give some inspiration for a non-box build.
