I have a tradition, when I go on holidays or vacations to some place I try to find a local shop to bring a model or a tool from that place. Nice thing to keep good memories.

I’m the same when I visit new places, I like to look around markets for old tools, I love the thought of all the builds the tools been worked on over the years

Good idea to show people just starting out what they will need. Hope Santa/ DD get the nicer tools you want.

I tell you what I found handy when doing the ribs of the ship, it was a miniature square.
Very useful for the beginner. Would be interested in your build of Lady Nelson. Also, HMS Pickle as you list that as a very good beginners kit. Thank you, John.

Hi John, very regognizable! I use similar tools and i see other modelers use similar tools as well. I did my first wooden build in 1987. I still use the the tools i bought in that year up to day. Every once and a while i do plastic models mostely Tamiya 1 : 6 motorcycles som of them restorations so i have gathered a lot of tools for that as well. I gues that when you are going to build die cast models you will collect some tools for that purposes as well.

Hi Ron. We just collect the tools we need over the years and when new projects and interests arise. And once brought Most will last a lifetime
John, a beginner's kit like the Lady Nelson would be really great. I stopped working on the Victory because it was too complicated. A simpler ship building along with you would be something that I would love to do.

It’s becoming the same for me Bob. The building is ok. But building and filming has become complicated, I will save up and buy the lady nelson Bob
Do not want to be a know it all, But i think the "plank cutter" you used is actually a plank bender. Making small incisions to bend the planks. Not to cut all the way through! Just wanted to give some tiny information i have :) Thank you for all the other advices! Starting my first modell soon, when i can decide the ship that is;)
Hi John would u please do a video on planking the Hull if u have a bit of time thanks

Hi Sean. The planking can be very tedious. You just have to keep going mate. One plank at a time
