MY REACTION TO 'DESIGNER BRANDS KEEP YOU POOR' & only POOR people buy luxury to LOOK RICH.

Ойын-сауық

This video is potentially going to split opinion and be quite controversial, but the narrative on social media that only poor people buy luxury brands, like Chanel, Gucci and Louis Vuitton, to look rich is judgemental, ill informed and judges and looks down on the choices of many, by the actions of few. I recently came across a video by Cara Nicole, and I will link her video below, entitled 'Designer Brands are Keeping you poor', whilst I do believe there is a strong financial message behind this video, I found the judgemental portrayal of people who buy luxury goods to be quite offensive, and to effectively lump all luxury lovers together, as people who buy a costume of designer brands to try to look rich. There are parts of the video I agree with, but a great many parts of the video, and the portrayal of those who buy luxury, that I strongly disagree with. There will be many opinions and views on this topic, and this is mine. Please keep all commentary on the issues discussed respectful, we can all disagree, but we can also chose to be kind in how we disagree and present our views.

I agree with this comment a lot. The other video did point out some interesting things but I genuinely love to collect these luxury bags and wear and love them and if that makes me poor so be it because I don’t measure being rich by what I wear or how much money is in my wallet. It’s measured in love, love for my friends, love for family, love for all around me and the love they have for me.

Thanks for the video.. I hear influencers speaking about how the rich do not “show off their wealth”! The idea the the rich do not It show off their wealth is incorrect: there is nothing “quiet” about private planes, exclusive zip codes, luxury vacations, housekeepers and gardeners...and so on! Buying what we love and enjoy is a luxury for all, nothing wrong with using ones hard earned money to buy what looks good and helps us to feel good! Life is too short and fragile for wait for happiness to come knocking at the door...if you can buy why not! 🎉

I see what you're saying but here's the distinction, lower income and lower class = lower income classification in economic terms. It is why they're used interchangeably. Your point has more to do with an attitude or way of carrying one's self.

I super hate that saying of pour people wear things to look rich, I don't buy louie to look rich, I like the product. Almost every bag I have ever bought had a brand, my faded glory hand bag out of Walmart is a brand. Even if you drive a corvette and live in a trailer that's your choice. I get so so so annoyed when I see titles like that, and no one has every said this to my face. My mother has called me you rich kid, and I tell her yes your kid. Thank you for explaining how flawed it was to generalize a whole group of people who love luxury as “pretending to be rich.” The point that only wealthy or high class people don’t where logos is terrible. It’s a preference, a personal choice. I attended a wedding in Scottsdale, AZ a couple of years ago as a plus one. This was a large wedding, with many wealthy guests. I didn’t meet everyone, but some of these individuals obtained their wealth by working at large finance firms, had their own successful businesses and firms, managers of celebrities, influencers, etc. I don’t think I saw a female guest without a luxury logo. Chanel flaps were the most popular bag that I saw that weekend, almost all of the women were wearing one. So I think it’s safe to say that wealthy people also wear logos haha. But I’m sure there are wealthy people out there who have no interest in wearing luxury. It’s just a preference. It shouldn’t be something that defines someone’s character or finances.

I friggin love you!! I was so offended by that video, as well. I actually watch her videos and usually enjoy them. But this one burned me up! I have been a luxury designer enthusiast since I was a child and grew up in poverty. Even back then, I’d admire and pour over magazines and watch MTV’s House of Style. I even was a fashion major for a bit before switching over to accounting. My stepdad is a financial planner, so that combined with my accounting degree and not growing up with wealth all taught me to be smart with money. I went to school and worked the whole time saving and also paying down school loans. I’ve had a 401K and IRA since I was 18 & now at 45 am in the position where my husband & I have good salaries, excellent savings, no debt and will be retiring at 55. I also buy luxury and adore it!! I’m not trying to impress anyone. I admire the pieces as works of art & they make me so happy. We shouldn’t have to constantly justify why it is ok to buy luxury & for me in particular, purses. I get so much crap about how I’m wasting money on a $4k bag and how I could be investing that somewhere else. Do they know my husband and I each maximize our 401k. Do they know I have a balanced portfolio already with stocks, T-Bills, CD’s, annuities, life insurance?? Do they know I have no debt?? It’s so damn presumptuous and really irritates me. So bravo on speaking out!! 👏

I don’t need to “look rich.” Doesn’t that make you look like a target? 🤔 Also poor people cannot afford Coach or Michael Kors, let alone LV and Gucci. That’s ridiculous! Poor people can barely afford to pay their bills and stay above water. Now I do see a lot of middle and upper middle class buying designer bags that they save for, not necessarily Gucci or LV, but designer brands in general. There’s nothing wrong with treating yourself to something nice. But I never thought anyone who buys these products is actually trying to “look rich.” I think they just want their money to go a long way since designer products tend to be of higher quality and will last much longer. And I do agree with you, Amelia! We shouldn’t judge anyone on anything they wear. It’s just their personal style. Celebrities are very wealthy and wear logos all the time lol. People are crazy! And if you’re sitting there judging what everyone else is wearing, you really need to get a life. I don’t worry about what anyone else is wearing. Do I look at some people and think “oh wow, cute dress!” or “they look really nice.” Sure I do! But I think it for a second and go about my life. I don’t think “oh wow, they’re trying to look rich.” Lol. I never though that of anyone in my life. 🤦‍♀️ Also designer brands are not trying to market to one demographic. They’re marketing to everyone! They just want to sell their products to whoever! Duh!

Amen! You said this so well, with so much class and grace. I commend you, because I definitely could not show your restraint 😁. My first luxury brand purchase was LV in my early 20's. I saw the newly re-released DE print on a girl going up an escalator and fell in love. I had NO idea what brand it was, I just knew I wanted that bag. I searched for it and finally found out who made it, and went out and bought it. I wore that bag every day, so excited when I looked at it. I wasn't trying to BE anything, I was just happy. But OTHER people, they had "thoughts". They judged me, they projected their own insecurities and reasoning to my wearing a luxury handbag. It was shocking to me then, and it is still shocking to me now. In addition to being very judgmental, classist, and elitist, this conversation has a healthy subtext of racism. This has been discussed by multiple black YT content creators, who point out that the "old money" or "quiet luxury" aesthetic only encompasses European versions of wealth. There were plenty of uber wealthy people in India (cough *Koh-i-Noor diamond* cough), for example, or South America, or Africa, but their luxury aesthetics somehow don't count or are considered "tacky" and nouveau riche. In the end I actually find it amusing and a bit ironic that many of the content creators who put out these videos (looking at you Anna Bey) would be shunned from the very circles they are attempting to claim they belong to.

It was explained in the 1996 book THE MILLIONAIRE NEXT DOOR ( which is still accurate) that wealthy people dont have fancy cars over 50,000 .... designer watches..... or live in gated communities. ..... the true rich are very small in size. It was based on a survey and really opened my eyes to the fakes out here. I've noticed that whenever something is considered "desirable" people have an urge to make it look bad. I think there's an Aesop's Fable where a wolf is reaching for some grapes or something, and can't reach them, so he says that the grapes must suck anyway. I don't understand why people can't just look at someone who is happy, and enjoying their life, and let them be. They always have to attack it. I also DESPISE the way that people who have nice things are described as simply "flaunting their wealth." Maybe people want a nice house, because it's nice. Maybe people wear nice clothing, because it is lovely, and makes them feel good. It isn't about "display" or putting on a show. I can't stand that.

This exactly capture my thoughts and what I couldn't put into words about Cara Nicole's video. I own some luxury bags but I put so much thought into them, so much that I have walked into a store only to walk out empty handed and purchase a few months later. Buying luxury is not synonymous with low class or trying to fit in with the rich and the rich are not the only people ALLOWED to wear luxury.

👏👏👏👏 Thank you! I buy what I like, what is good quality, and what works well in my life. My style now is the same as when I was a young teenager, I typically like and am draw to understated classic styles, but have always incorporated a pop of color to in essence buck the status quo of my profession. That and certain bright colors just look good on me. I enjoy quality over quantity and have items in my closet that I still wear regularly after owning them almost 30 years. Good quality lasts almost forever if you take care of it. Buy whatever you like and enjoy! Life is too short. I refuse to judge anyone.

Her video was actually very well thought out. It was not offensive or judgement at all lol. She made a very good point. I have a few luxury bags and luxury items myself and I most likely will not be getting any more because she made such good points. You took one sentence from her video and made it all about that sentence which was a true statement for many and then made it all about you. When she was actually saying look at all those bags. Even behind you, look at them. Add up what you’ve spent on that and think of the investments and other things you could have actually done with that money instead. Buy those things because they make you feel happy, but when putting it into perspective retiring early would make me pretty happy. Going on a trip would make me pretty happy, there’s a lot I can do with the price of a Chanel and a good Google search. Investing that money into your education or your child’s education should make you pretty happy. Being an influencer is only going to last for so long. Then what are you going to do!? Nobody is going to care and they’ll move on. It’s ironic that you make a video to put judgement on a girl who you say is passing judgement on others. Potts and kettles.

I'm in total agreement I love my designer brands.. What iv found over the years is that I use to be a big shopper and buy stuff with out giving it an extra thought.. But now by buying LV or gucci I find I actually save money I take extra time to think about my purchase I'm not buying random stuff weekly... So in the long run I now know from experience that I don't lift my mk bags over my lv bags and that has stopped me spending and wasting money... Smart purchases actually can save you money 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼

You are amazing, i completely relate to everything you said about yourself. I grew up with a single mom, and we got 2nd hand clothes a lot of the time. I was the 1st to graduate college in my family, and i have a collection of luxury bags along with contemporary bags. I'd love to know her opinion of the rich who buy contemporary bags with us "poor" ppl. I buy bags that i love and for their quality. I have two Bvlgari serpenti bags that only have a logo on the back and aren't super mainstream/popular. You would only know that brand if you know. I also have LV, Dior, 1 chanel 19, and a few YSL bags. Yes, they are logos, but i truly didn't buy them to look rich... bc I'm absolutely NOT rich, I'm middle class with 3 children, and my husband is a blue-collar worker here in the US. It makes me so mad. ppl think we only buy these brands bc they're associated with the rich. Honestly, this woman sounds like one of those who do judge luxury and the people who buy luxury. Like, if you're not in a certain tax bracket, then "That's not for you. It's for me bc you don't make as much money as me." I also wonder what she thinks of the rich who buy fakes? And im sorry, but Anna Bay is someone who desires to be weathy so badly that she has made a living by teaching women how to act and dress so they can "fit in." That's my opinion, though. She wants to be a certain stereotype.

Yeah, that video was so damn judgmental. That woman had a major chip on her shoulder. I wear both low-key and loud luxury because I love the pieces and I typically buy them secondhand because I also care about the environment. Unlike fast fashion brands, I know my bags will be around for many years and I can always sell them and make some money back, which you really can’t do on most fast fashion items because they’ll be in such poor quality. By the way, my family technically qualifies as Old Money-a term I absolutely hate-but I’m so sick of videos telling those who wear logos that they’re somehow “less than.” People recently have been talking about Old Money as a homogenous group and I find that obnoxious as well. Personally, I notice what people wear because I love fashion, but I’m not judging them for it. As long as a person isn’t in debt to look a certain way, they are investing in their future, and they’re happy, I really don’t care what brands they’re wearing.

My family has money and literally everything she post seems like not real life. Yes we have standards but literally no one cares what you wear. Luxury for us growing up was having horses. A in ground pool, and tons of land. A butlers entry and walk in pantries. Like all my friends gad unique houses their parents built. But our parents weren’t buying us designer till we got older. It’s like a graduation gift. And even then no one cares what bag you have. Wear what you like. YSL and Celine are my preference but i wouldn’t judge someone for gucci or LV.

Coming from Anna Bey who runs a channel that's all about how to 'level up' your look to appear wealthy, get your social cues right, and then get a wealthy man isn't it "a bit rich' of her (pun intended) to try to ridicule others for apparently, being overt about merely liking certain brands? There's an argument she's trying to throw distance on what she's all about by deflecting. I could make some unkind remarks there but will desist. As for the rest, sadly that's how you get lots of eyeballs and subs; generate controversy, bait, ignite and stand back. There's an element of truth in what's being said on each side. We have to find our own place in this. There is a place for 'investment dressing', but that's not investing for a direct financial return, that's obvious. It is however about putting an outfit together that will make the most of you and give the best results and returns. It is social in some respects because we're all social animals. A great handbag will elevate your look, there's no question about that. I happen to enjoy brands most people haven't heard of. Like Morabito. Who? Daks. Ditto. But I do have some LV and some Gucci as well. I'm at the bargain basement end of things, I really enjoy finding an unloved bargain, restoring and enjoying the quality and the results. We're just having some fun in a very serious world. I know I dip into the handbag world as a bit of light relief from Covid19, recession, imploding banks, climate change, and the whole catastrophe. There are times when it gets too much and I go: I know, I'll just dip into what Amelia Rose/Dayle/Meredith/Jessie etc etc are saying and then go back to whatever is preoccupying me. It's a bit of fun. Some light relief. There are pitfalls to everything. Most clothing is costume in some respect, unless it's ultra functional..., its telegraphing values, and sensibilities, and how you'd like to be seen. There's snobbery and there's inverted snobbery and the kind of comments being made in the name of raising awareness, are very close to the latter. JIMO.

First. Excellent video. Second, it's objectively false that rich people do not buy these luxury brands. Though I can't remember the exact percentage, something like 40% of Chanel's revenue is from the top 2% or 3% of spenders. Those people are obviously rich and are super-buyers, so feelings aside, it's simply untrue that only poor or middle class people buy these brands. I find the phrase 'try hard' interesting, because it's interesting what things it's okay to try hard at and what things it's not. Makeup itself is something one has to try hard to do. People spend a lot of money on it, you have to learn how to do it properly, iwhat the correct shades are, how they wear throughout the day. It also takes time to choose, experiment, apply. I know it's not trivial, because I myself can't do it, though I've tried to learn a little (and mostly failed). Yet it's generally not said "make up is for try-hards who are wearing a costume to make them look better than they truly look". Since humans are social, I think we are all trying to portray a certain image to other humans, though I don't think that means that the *only* reason we like things is to impress others. I also think that the things we like are influenced by other people, because we are social creatures. Yes, it is important that we not spend all our money on trivialities when we haven't even saved for retirement. But also, life is for the living, not just when we are old, and as long as we are also being financially responsible, I think it's okay to spend money on frivolous things that are fun for us now. Finally, I've spent most of my life not buying luxury items (and still mostly don't buy), but somehow I'm still not rich, lol. So I don't think buying luxury is what keeps most poor people poor. Poor people are poor for far more systemic reasons that that.

In my opinion wealth/means have nothing to do with personal interests. Some love fashion and to them it has value to spend on and some don’t as see choosing what to wear everyday as a chore. Both situations apply regardless of the means a person has. You can love fashion regardless. Judging and labeling people into classes is not classy at all and I hope people stop doing it for clicks soon.

Sometimes, when you are deep into a behavior pattern, it can hurt to look inward and your automatic reflex can be to jump into defensive mode. As you did here. If you didn't care about other people thinking you were poor, you wouldn't be offended by someone else saying your choices make you look poor. Someone could tell me that and I would think it was weird that it was a topic of discussion, but I truthfully would not care in the slightest. That makes you a good candidate for their marketing campaigns and me a poor candidate for their marketing campaigns. There was a time when I was a compulsive shopper due to a side-effect of medication and trying to fill the hole in my heart from being stuck in a bad marriage. When I started feeling better, I got rid of so much stuff- designer, not designer. I just bagged it up and dumped it in a donation box and it felt so freeing! Not saying you need to throw out your things, but being open to understanding the motivations behind your actions is always a positive.

Not everyone buys luxury items for the same reasons. I reckon that argument speaks more to the person making that statement. I bought my LVs when I started making money because I knew they'd stay nice, hold up, look great, and do what I wanted them to. Thirty years later I am still using all my old LV because it does exactly what I want and I still love each piece. I don't give a rat's arse what those people think. Perhaps as a "you might want to be more financially educated before spending on Designer" vs 'you are a luser trying to look rich" it might be more appropriate. I'd be boiling on that costume comment as well. Judgey people need to learn about staying in their lane. As for Anna, her audience is very different than this audience. She's basically teaching those interested in how to marry up. It's a very different perspective on a very competetive area. Me, I have no wish to marry up so it's not my concern. WHAT IS WRONG WITH COLLECTING CHANGE?!?!?!?! JFC woman, this is totally the bias of that vid maker. And to be Honest, if the bills are getting paid, the family is fed , the retirement and savings are funded and the house/rent paid up... Its no one's business what you spend on or why.

You are obviously so triggered in this video. You might want to unpack that. You clearly took her take personally. The video that you are referencing was made within the specific paradigm of unpacking consumerism and the concept of luxury as a display of social status and it was spot on. Plus, there are so many other videos that have said exactly the same thing. A key incentive for people who buy luxury regardless of social status, it to signal to others , their wealth. Hence, why exclusivity is the cornerstone of the market. Taking offence to that fact doesn’t make it any less true, and this fact is woven into the enjoyment of it all. Two things can be true at the same time and it doesn’t make anyone a bad person. Wealthy people never want to be aligned with those they consider ‘poor’. This is one reason why many wealthy people moved away from wearing logos when those from working class backgrounds began wearing them. Major example of this is Burberry, and more recently LV (and definitely Gucci) . This is where quiet luxury came from. It begins young, like the desire to have nike or adidas at school, and being teased for wearing Asda George. People do buy designer to elevate themselves in groups. There is nothing wrong with making content that invites others to critically think about why they are/ are thinking of making such expensive purchases for things that they don’t actually need, and separate societal norms and values from their own goals . Which is the entire point of her channel. It’s not to shame anyone, but such decisions are not conducive to the financial betterment of many people.

Maybe so, and very eloquently put I do agree there was a strong financial message in the video as I said in mine, and I appreciate where that was coming from. I also think people will have different opinions on this, and I welcome videos or conversations that make you think. I do think however that in such conversations, there is going to be an opposing view, I appreciate mine is a differently held opinion. I do believe however that these videos can be made without being overtly judgemental, and the descriptions used in this video to emphasise a point, of the very limited snips of videos taken, I feel were unfair to those creators and were judgemental to a group of persons, myself included. That is just my opinion though, and the world is kept interesting by us all not agreeing!

I think a way to determine if a person is drawn to luxury for social/appearance reasons is to ask yourself if you would love your luxury items and buy them and feel the same about them if those same styles and brands could be bought for a small fraction of what you pay for them? If no one saw them as expensive, would you still like them the same?

Amelia, as much as I love and appreciate your videos I really do think this is just a trigger for you. I’m a designer bag collector as well and I thought her video was pretty good and she got her point across respectfully. I think she made some great points. Now that being said, I think she’s trying to reference more on the younger ppl with much less money which I agree they shouldn’t be purchasing certain items if they can’t afford it. In the end I think us luxury lovers have to be honest and admit that it is also true certain brands like LV and Gucci are very loud and obnoxious for a reason. It’s for a certain type! We ALL know this and that’s why a lot of us stray away from it.

I love my Starbucks because when I was younger I was too afraid to go into the store, and now that I can afford that and I have tons of Starbucks merch, I can tick it off my list. I love my designer handbags (Hidesign, guess, Michael kors, Aldo, etc) and one day I will work hard enough for a chanel too 😊 and thank you for the video for reinstating the fact that we don't necessarily buy luxury items to show off, we do it because we love them and there is no harm in that.

So many important points in this video! I too watched the video you reference and parts of it made my blood boil too. It def implied that there are two camps of people and anyone wearing logos (LV Gucci etc) is buying a costume to make themselves look rich. I love buying luxury and there are many reasons I do - none of which are to make myself look rich. I was also not happy with the implication that only the rich are capable of managing money and being more sensible and frugal. The references to class was also unnecessary. There are many people in every walk of life that love luxury and many that don’t. It doesn’t always relate to wealth or class. What happened to allowing everyone to make their own decisions with their own money and not judge them for it. The lady is probably correct that there will be some people who do buy logos to look rich and to be flashy and show off but certainly not everyone buys for that reason and secondly who cares if they do? Let’s stop labelling people! Also give people credit that they can make their own decisions. I think your video is spot on - you presented your view as a reaction yet stayed non judgemental towards this lady. I hope she sees your video and the many comments attached and maybe she will see a different viewpoint exists and is allowed. Fab video my friend x

Most items do not see a light of day either but I love looking at them improving them etc. it is a hobby. It is a hobby for many and NOT cool that some people judge it. I spend very little on nails and other things that tend to suck so much money from people but I never judge them because they spend money as they wish. In fact, just sold my original LV and got for it 70% of what I paid for it new 12 yrs ago! I loved and enjoyed it for 12 years and ended up paying what I pay for coach or Kate spade. Amelia: I LOVE this video. It is SPOT-ON! 🎯 🎯 Most people make judgments and assessments of other people every day, just by being living, sentient humans. HOWEVER, what if people just LIKE and ENJOY the expensive accessories, jewelry and clothing that they buy, then use and wear in public? Unless you know any such individual and can make a clear judgment of a person's motives, nobody can read the full intent of another person, at least in this realm. Furthermore, even if people at lower income levels ARE aspirational, SO WHAT? We all aspire to something, and we all express this in different ways. In general we also need to combat this reverse snobbery from self-styled cognoscenti who spread the notion that strong interests in and knowledge of fashion imply some form of fatuousness or superficiality. This is ridiculous.

Sometimes truth is harsh. We are free with our life choices and so are others round us! You're 100% free to buy whatever you want and so am I to make an impression of you. Offensive or not, when a person's wearing something that is identifiable from a mile way, what reasoning could be behind this other than some sort of validation. Judging, I believe, isn't the right word. Impression, that's more like it. Your hairdresser may be offended by you showing up wearing their 6 months income on you, but... who asks them?

The first saw Lewis Vuitton at the airport in Las Vegas (I live there). I then looked up the brand and decided to buy a preloved one to see if I liked it. I’ve bought a few and figured out what I like and don’t like and what other brands I like. They bring me joy ( I love Gucci too). Here’s the thing. I grocery shop in an area both rich and poor and in between. I sometimes wander if it’s safe to carry these bags there and on the Strip… Do I look like I have money to thieves or just trying to look like a rich woman? Do my bags look authentic or like fakes because they are often imitated? I love my luxury handbags but I’m careful when I carry them!

IMO Many buy luxury because the items are timeless, able to be enjoyed for many years and passed down. That IMO is long term wardrobe investment. Some people choose to spend significantly upfront but buy maybe 1-3 items in a year. Over a decade that is a curated collection. IMO people like having items that make them feel good every time they use it. That can be luxury but not always. You can argue why it makes them feel good may be marketing, but to be frank the only motivation you know 100% is your own. IMO concerning myself with strangers $ decisions is a distraction. Its interesting how this view perseveres when it comes to luxury fashion. Yet in owning multiple homes there seems to be little about how maybe thats also a status symbol (which can be argued has a lot of impact on economy and affordability).

It’s just a style choice. Honey everyone judges, you’re judging the judgers. So instead I prefer the mind set that everyone is entitled to their own opinions. Right or wrong. And YOU have the right to your opinions as well. So instead, I’d just give your opposing view and some will agree with you and some will agree with them. In the end how YOU feel and live and see yourself is most important, not what others think or believe about you. I think when you get over a certain age you see this clearly. Wearing designer brands is just another style choice. Nothing more. You can be rich or poor and have just one monogrammed bag or 50… it’s simply a style choice.

I think sadly, wearing a designer logo is going to attract attention and make the onlooker cast a judgment based on wealth, regardless of if we like it or not. A logo represents something, the fact we are willing to walk around with a logo that symbolises ‘wealth’ it says something about the wearer. They either just like the brand, they have saved up but couldn’t truly afford it , or buy them like they are high street if we are super rich. Either way, it sends a message and people will judge. I no longer wear logos and personally I wouldn’t again simply because years ago I did fall victim to the mindset of ‘designer labels will make me look richer’ and it filled a void and I felt like less, so material goods fill the space… for a short time. I’m glad I no longer feel this way. But as I was stuck in this trap of a mindset I understand that particular point. For some people feeling they need to prove something it can be a trap, a quick fix to fake you’re doing better than you are financially. But true wealth and richness comes from happiness in yourself without material items. That is what I learned coming out the other side. I will buy a quality luxury bag, but it will never have a logo, simply because I know people will judge and I want people to see me and not a brand ❤

Jeez Can we watch a harmless video without feeling triggered and “OFFENDED”. Was she right In everything she said including the trying to look rich part? yes 100%. Would it have made you feel better had she worded it differently? Yes, Does it apply to every person that buys branded luxury? Nope, and those that it does apply to it’s usually to different degrees. As someone in the middle class that enjoys luxury brands it’s okay to understand that sometimes we subconsciously do things for reasons a lot of us won’t or feel ashamed to admit, Can genuine appreciation grow from finally affording that bag that represented something or another that we at one point aspired to get to? Absolutely. It’s not an easy fit to save up to be able to buy that bag that we have desired for so long and brands know this so they keep raising the bar. Would it be smarter for us to say f* them and spend our money more wisely? Absolutely Would we? Nope😅, cos we have already been sucked in. It’s really not that deep

I am drawn to things that are relatively discreet, this is not because I'm super rich, or because I don't want to look rich (the obverse of buying logos to look rich), its probably more to do with my personality I'm more of an introvert! So following through on this, people who love logo's possibly are more extrovert than me, (and just to be clear, this is in no way, a put down on extroverts btw). There is a logo bag that I love, and I passed on it because I was afraid I wouldn't reach for it as much as I should, but I still cant get it out of my head - I've finally worked out its to do with the colour combination, and I may yet pull the trigger as I feel it's a classic style. I love watching YT video's about logo'd bags, and style, but I tend to avoid ones that try to tell me how to look rich - I'm not rich, and have no need to look like I am. I watch video's despite them being about items I'm not likely to buy, because I do appreciate the aesthetic and the craftsmanship of designer bags, and yes, I am interested in the heritage of the brands. Of course luxury brands market their products to a particular market, but that's what all brands do, whether they're high street or luxury.

Some wealthy people love logos and some don't - I don't think it's a wealthy vs poor thing, but a style and temperament thing. Some people are just showy by nature and love a good logo and some bling and all of that and they can be rich or poor, it's just how they are. And some people don't like to be showy and are more understate by nature, again with no correlation to their bank account. People should just be themselves and buy what they like because you'll be judged either way! Should we be careful about how we spend our money and not over-extend ourselves just to prove something? Absolutely! But avoiding logos because you're worried it makes you "look poor" is no better than wearing logos you don't like because you want to "look rich". Either way, you're prioritising what other people think over what you really love.
