I show how I'm going about setting up my Nairobi apartment in a non-toxic or low-tox way, from a latex mattress, eliminating synthetic fragrance, getting indoor plants that clean the air, going through my cleaning products and replacing them with more natural Kenyan brands, and more. Unfortunately our environments, including cleaning products, food and cosmetics, include a lot of harmful toxins that can harm our bodies such as the endocrine system controlling hormones. This is my attempt in starting a low-tox life from my own home.

Some of the toxins can also come from food. When you buy vegetables in Kenya, always soak them in a vinegar or salt solution and rinse them thoroughly with water to get rid of toxins that might come from pesticide residues.

hey i'm sorry to only get to the comment now! i don't have a complete list but for home and cleaning products specifically these were some to take note of: PHTHALATES TRICLOSAN 2-BUTOXYETHANOL AMMONIA, CHLORINE SODIUM HYDROXIDE SODIUM LAURETH SULFATE PETROLEUM DISTILLATES (AKA NAPTHAS) PHOSPHATE OPTICAL BRIGHTENERS QUATERNARY AMMONIUM COMPOUNDS (QUATS)
