Just came across this video, Mike. Thanks for sharing it. The 1967 STP turbine was (and still is) my favourite race car of all time. If you have not read Andy Granitelli's autobiography "They call me Mister 500", it is well worth it. I would love to have this model in my collection.

Thanks and I have not read it but will add it to my list. The 67 turbine is one of my favorites as well as the Chaparral 2E

It wasn't even close to having twice the horsepower of the other engines in 1967. The DOHC Ford was within 10 to 15 HP and the Turbo Offy actually had more HP. The reason it went so fast was the Ferguson 4 wheel drive system and wider front wheels and tires that allowed it to corner at a higher speed than the 2wd cars. Down the straight it was several MPH slower than the rest, and couldn't accelerate with them. But because it could corner better it exited the corners at a higher rate of speed that the piston engine cars which had to slow down for the next corner before they could pass it. I was at the Speedway when Parnelli qualified the car in 67.

Exactly right! This car's superiority was not due to horsepower, but rather the advanced engineering.

I saw the Chaparral 2F race at Brands Hatch in the BOAC 500 which it won back in 1967. I was fifteen years old and was thrilled to bits. I think Phil Hill and Mike Spence were driving

That’s a awesome car, replicarz is now doing an autographed 1/12th scale version. And the flap opens on the 1/12th.

I agree with you man, I loved the pre IRL/CART split "Run What You Brung" days. That was what made Indy a unique race unlike any other in the world. Nice diecast btw, may look into getting this one as well...

I had the original STP Turbine car plastic model. It came with a desk pen set that the car sat on. Also, there was a clear plastic cover over the turbine.

Very Sweet Car.. Scary Price though.. But Happyness and having a Piece of History is all that counts and for me a Few Years ago people would have thought I'd Lost my Mind of all the John Deer Tractors I had in mine and my Dad's collection, But our Collection has Dropped to just Two Great Tractors A 1970's 7520 4WD and a 1982's Model 8850 4WD Both are Collectables.. And are my little piece of Heaven : ) Next to my Trains of Course..

Found it. It was a derivative of the P&W Canada PT6 called an STB. One of the most reliable engines ever made for aircraft (PT6 version). I thought I had recognized the shape and cowling that is why I wondered what the power-plant was. To bad the bearing went out, it would have changed racing. It inadvertently caused new rules.

Hi Mike, I just purchased this car last night, and I have some reservations on my purchase! To start off with, I must say the car looks amazing in the pictures, however I was disappointed to find out after I bought this 1967 STP Turbine model that the front wheels don't steer, and that's odd, because that's something that you would normally find in your cheapest die cast car model? Further more, I am also disappointed that the rear flap, as you mentioned in your video, does not deploy for the braking! Well, that I new about, but not the steering, and at the cost of $250.00 dollars Replicarz should of added the steering to this model, at the very least, in my opinion. That being said, I'll see when I get this car if like it enough where I can overlook the lack of the steering, or if I can't, it will go up on eBay!

They didn't steer much even in real life so I didn't care. I just wanted one, period. Thanks , Mike

I see that you do not have many resin cars, why this that opens something, it's a miracle, other resin cars, they cost more, and no part is opened :(

Noticed the Pratt & Whitney logo on the turbine cowling. Did they give you a model number for the turbine? Would be curious to know the thrust and HP.

Essentially, it's the world famous P&W PT-6, which is the most mass produced turboprop engine still in production with 51,000+ built (Pure production numbers, the Allison Model 250 is #2).
