I almost cried reading this comment. I'm dying to get off pain meds. Butrans Vicodin lidocaine patches, I'm sick of it and want to be active again. I'm so hopeful for my SCS trial

I have a Nevro. 5 years ago it was installed. Still on pain meds. At 74 I don’t think I will ever have life back. New neurologist contacted Nevro rep and they are trying to get me relief. Previous Dr. put device in incorrectly. Fingers crossed.

I just had mine taken out 2 weeks ago. I had good luck with the trial, but that doesn’t mean the permanent implant will give you the same relief. I had it implanted in 2015. Last year it wouldn’t take a charge anymore, all it would say is that it was unable to locate the IPS, so I wasn’t using it and the battery was totally dead. I thought that I would be able to just leave it in and not use it. I began to have constant buzzing/vibrating in my back and down my legs, and I just assumed it was the stimulator malfunctioning in some way. I went to the dr and he said it wouldn’t be doing that if the battery was dead, and said he would take it out. He thought I may have sacroiliitis, and wanted me to have injections in both SI joints, and a complete MRI from my neck down my spine. He was right, I have it out, and still have the buzzing. I saw the dr on a Wednesday, and 8am the next morning they called to schedule my surgery. It was marked urgent, and were just waiting on insurance approval (that kind of freaked me out) Turned out that the stimulator (St. Jude’s, now Abbot) that I was told was MRI compatible, was only compatible with getting an MRI of my HEAD, so it had to come out ASAP so they could do the MRI. For those that are getting one, make sure you do research on it. I probably didn’t because at that time I was desperate for any kind of pain relief. After a fusing and disc replacement at L-4,5 S1, and over 20 injections (which, by the way, are not FDA approved to be given in your spine) it was my last option. Upon talking to others, I found out that it was common to have your trial done with the leads, and upon implantation, they put a paddle in(which tends to migrate) and not get the same amount of pain relief. Also, depending upon who puts yours in, a surgeon is more likely to put it under the muscle, and a pain management dr does not. The recovery time is longer and more intense when under the muscle, and if it ever has to be removed, it’s also longer and more painful. I did ask for mine when they took it out, I figured the surgery was $77,000, so I should at least get it back🤷🏻‍♀️They did give it to me. I was surprised that they didn’t try to talk me into getting another put in, but I got a call from a rep on Friday asking if I wanted to have the Nevro put in. I politely declined. Sorry it’s so long, just wanted to share my experience. Take care, and good luck in your journey to find pain relief.

Hi I’ve been dealing with lower back pain for a long time , after having a few surgeries my right side lower back problem was 2 pinched nerves then I had an accident and my left lower back was burning all the time , I had injections, RF done , but after years of pain management they did a SI joint fusion, that gave me some relief, but now lower left back problem continues so my spine doctor recommended a spine stimulater, so recently I had a 7 day trial with a BurstDR stimulater and that seemed to give me relief , so on January 7 th I’m having it installed , I can’t wait ! I’m 64 years old ! Alan

Was the trial procedure painful?

I had a Nevro HF10 implanted June 30, 2017. After a week of healing from the implementation I was instructed to Tuen it on. That day (Friday) I didn’t feel anything also the next day too. Sunday I woke up with NO pain! I was elated. I got ready and went to church and was able to stay for all three hours of church. I went home and started to make dinner and my back went into spasm from my mid back (about the top of where the leads started) all the way to my toes. It was agonizing and lasted for 8 hours! Nothing helped, not even my pain meds! After that dreadful evening and night it has GIVEN ME NO PAIN RELIEF! I’ve had it reprogrammed almost every month since then - 2 2/1 years od no pain relief!!!

I had the HF10 installed in Oct. 2018. It has been wonderful for me. Today they did the first "combined" program setting. I am anxious to see how this goes. My pain meds. are at their lowest point in many years.

@@dj.culture6590 Nerve- 8, Bone- 6 before Nevro. Now - Nerve - 5, Bone - 3. I've gone from 8 Oxy,s a day to 5. The lowest level in many years. It took , however, one of the combined settings to finally achieve these results. I will pray for you. Back and knee pain are the worst. Goodluck.

Can I ask what the combined is? I got my HF10 10/2019 and I am at maybe 30%. How often do you see your rep?

Well done video! It was helpful to me prior to having the permanent HF10 implanted. For my surgery, because of the number of sites that need pain control, the surgeon is doing a laminectomy, too, to allow room for a "paddle" to secure all the leads. I was surprised that you were under restrictions for so long! My surgeon is just restricting me for the first four weeks. After that, I can do anything that doesn't hurt. I wonder if the shorter restrictions are because the paddle stabilizes the leads better.

Thank you for doing this video. I have Ehlers-Danlos syndrome and cyp450 gene mutation. Due to the latter, I do not metabolize opiates or NSAIDS, (or even medical marijuana). I have had all sorts of therapy and injections. I have had 2 lumbar fusions. The first was wonderful, the 2nd put me in a wheelchair due to the horrible pain on standing. I am scheduled for my trial next Friday, so this was really good info for me

Well dear just over a year and one half and the info is still just a little. Getting trial on a Burst DR in a couple days. Not sure how it ranks can’t find any personal confessions outside from provider or hospital showing them.....Thanks where ever you are, an update should help a lot, your a natural! Com-on👍👍👍

I did the test and it worked great, I've been in pain for 26 years from fibromyalgia, bone spurs, arthritis degenerative disc disease, bulging disc, in my neck and lower back, so I'm going to do the permanent scan. I was pain free for the first time in 26 years. I was so happy that I cried. I wish everyone good luck.

Mine, too! I've had 8 back surgeries in 9 years with injections and nerves "burnt"... nothing is working. So, thanks to your positive attitude and report, I'm going to try. I LIVE at a constant level 7-8 pain level and can't STAND it ant more. I have deterioration of the spine and I'm at the point where no more fusions because my spine is too brittle. I have fusions at all three levels. Cervical, thoracic, and Lumbar. Yq, because there are so many people abusing opiates, they're taking them away from those of us who don't abuse them but need them. I guess this is my last resort. Again thank you for your positive attitude and encouragement. God bless you.

Thank You so Much for this video. I have cervical spinal stenosis with severe Myelopathy. I wonder if the HF10 would help with my hands.

I just had my St Jude stimulator replaced. The new one is tingle free, and you can drive with them now. The shrink visit with the initial trial was ridiculous, but I got through it. Bottom line, the stimulator helps enough to warrant the discomfort of the surgery.

@@michaelhenderson1219 yes I had the trial done and now I have the permanent scs and it has helped so much. It was painful but not as painful as I thought it would be. Just be careful moving around when you have it. They did put me to sleep and the procedure took I think an hour for the trial and almost 2 hours putting in the permanent one.

4:50 it was explained to me at my phsyc appointment that the system doesn’t work well with depression

I did about 2 years ago. The best thing I could’ve ever done. I got relief instantly. I charge it once a week. I know that it doesn’t work for everybody, so make sure you get a good doctor. I highly recommend it.

For me (and not everyone can have the same results) it took away 95% of the pain. I was miserable. I took a video of me before the procedure to remind me of where I was and will watch it on occasion. I can’t believe the pain I was in compared to now. If you get this done I hope that you have the same results. Keep me posted.

I'm always amazed the people don't identify exactly what type of spinal cord stimulator they have put in cuz that makes a ton of difference I'm getting the Abbott drg proclaim spinal cord stimulator and I've been told that I should get 90 to 100% relief I have CRPS in my feet and calves.

I just came across your video on the SCS. It’s been while since you have talked about it. How’s it been going. I get my SCS in April.

How long was recovery as far as pain goes??

No I have depression and take Meds I have had mine for almost 11 months it works!!! I Broke my neck in 2003 had been on Pain Med. for years Like I said It works The trial before the Ins will ok is bad time the Mental Eval. not bad the Battery pack and Gen. in lower back becomes also not there after a while GO DO IT!!!!!

You didn't go into too much detail regarding the pain relief. How has it been compared to pre-surgery?

I'm going to be doing the 7 day test with the Nevro HF10. I'm a bit nervous. I hope it takes my pain away (I've had chronic pain for 11 years now). Thanks for this video.

heh, don't be nervous- you can do it. I was nervous but I got through the trial and this week got the hf10 Nevro. so far so good for me. the trial was quite weird- I thought it gave me some relief whilst it was on but then the following week I tried doing some things and I was in too much pain (but on trial I easily did it)... good luck- be strong...

@@julietimmons9610 you know what?? I never did it. I talked to a few other docs and my pain was/has been mechanical. Meaning arthritis was the culprit. I just had a laminectomy at l4/l5 on my left side which has eradicated the pain caused by arthritis. However...I do still have nerve pain on my right side. At this point, I'm not sure if I might consider the stimulator or not. I watched as many videos on YT as I could find of ppl who'd done it. It's a big decision. I've had chronic pain now for 12 years....I feel for you at 27 years!! Its the worst, most frustrating thing ever. Good luck with whatever you decide. At least you could do a trial and see. Might be worth trying.

how much did it cost after insurance coverage?

I got offered this operation. I allready have 7 operations on my lower back og now this. Im getting 180mg oxycodon for my pain and i would be nice if i could get rid off some of it. In Denmark we have free Medicare so i dont have to choose right away. Are you still happy with it. Thanks for the video. Love from Denmark

I got the same stimulator, help my lower back pain 50% after my spinal lumbar back failed , but still have pain in left leg due to the sciatic nerve was damage due to the 1st surgery.

Is it the same thing as Boston Scientific SCS? February 9th. I will have it in for 1 month.

I've been in chronic pain for 31/2 years and had cervical spine fusion that didn't help me so now this new pain doctor I found suggested doing this. Most of the talks are on the back as I know its done on the neck but nevro doesn't have it approved but it has worked from what I've been told.. It all makes me nervous after my neck surgery not being successful. How do you know if the doctor is a good doctor at this. I've seen my doctor twice but the practice says he's does thousands of these.I'm in the northwest suburbs of chicago if anyone knows of a good doctor for me to research. Any suggestions as this is all new territory for me.

Can you drive now?

I have a nevro hf10 scs that was placed in Nov 17, it has been pretty good but dont let the battery die pain returns almost immediately. Also have you been placed on permanent restrictions, I.E. no lifting over 20lbs? My doc did and it really kind of hinders your day to day life.

I had the nevro place in me, and it really doesn't work. But most of all I hate the beeping when you are charging the device and it losses the connection. It drives my husband crazy as well as myself. I will say that it beeps more than it charges. It has gotten so bad I stop charging it. They need to give us the ability to turn the beeper off.

My doctor is sending me for my psych val next week for a trial lead. He basically told me the gist but now I'm scared of how much its going to hurt and recovery time. I suffer from sciatic pain even after my fusion but doctors don't know why. They want to try a lead before another back surgery. Do you mind if I ask what kind of chronic pain did you have and if you had, had a surgery previous to the SCS? It would kind gauge what pain to expect. Also what was your recovery time? The doctor didn't imply that recovery was a long process. I appreciate any reply! Thank you so much for your video.

I’m in the beginning process to have a SCS device. Curious to know what happens if you cut or injuries your lower legs or feet would you know it? Or does the device block that pain too? Thank you.

I just got a medtronic in my cervicals for crps2 in my arm, it took me from 10 to 4 with a little setting in this first week of trial. The rep said when the permanent will be implanted the relief will be better since he would activate the adaptivestim feature and other programs. Well see how it goes.

Partially, yes. I also got the implant to help with lower back pain and the other types of leg pain I was experiencing.

Are you still on pain meds?

Hello, my name is Ramon and I had my Nevro hfx10 implanted a month ago. Unfortunately I have not been able to get the right program and intensity that would lessen my pain. For now, the Nevro guy assigned to me does not allow me to change program without him guiding me. So far I’ve only tried program 1 and 2 at different intensities. Sad to say, it has not worked yet to relieve my pain . I still have to try programs 3, 4 and 5. I really hope one of these would work to give me pain relief. From your experience, where you able to have pain relief right away or did it take some time to determine which program and intensity worked for you? Hope to hear from you soon. Thanks. Ramon

I just got my spinal stimulator implant 5 days ago. I am so swelled in my stomach, that I look like I am 9 months pregnant.

Once I get my Insurance back!! Im looking at having this procedure! (Trial run first!) If it works 4 me! They will put it in for good!! So far im seeing people getting good results makes me happy!..

It is suggested to carry a card informing that you have an implanted device that would be affected by going through those scanners

My new pain mngmt doc just brought up the option of getting a simulator placed for my "fibro" and low back pain. But he mentioned the placement was done in office with a slight sedation...how was it placed for you? Also, can you have it running all the time or does it need time to chill, how long does the battery last? I've done some of my own research, but its always nice to hear it from someone who's experienced it first hand. I also just had my first back surgery Sept. 24th so what did your doc say about already having scar tissue formed in the spot of placement? Thanks for making all these videos, they really are super helpful! Hope you're doing well, I'll be sending all my pen pals a little something soon so keep your eye out ;)

Hi tfendzlau, you do the trial first and that is done in the office with a mild sedation. You usually wear it for a week to see if it works for you and if it does then you go thought a psych evaluation to determine if your a candidate. then they will put it in permanently in your back, and that is done in the hospital out patient. once thats done depending on the rep and who you get they will turn it on then or wait till you see the doctor a week later. Mine was turned on after sugery that day. Once you have it in you have to be careful so you dont pull the leads out. Myself i had gotten the paddle leads it covers more area. If your pain is not under control then you can call your rep to tweak your SCS. I have had 5 surgerys and they didnt have any problem putting the leads in my back, they just cut me on my scar. there was no problems. The only problem I had was where they was putting the leads in my back for the tria. I had a herniated disc and it was more painful for me so they were only able to put one lead in instead of 2 leads. You can leave the SCS on all the time, I do. My battery life is 5- 7 years depends on how low you use your SCS. the highter the pulse the battery life is lower. The lower the pulse the more battery life you will have. Outpatient in the Hospital you are out for the procedure. Both trial and permanent. I would never do something like that in a Dr's office .

Hi, how did you find it to sleep lying in bed right after surgery. I just had a laminectomy last month and my pain management Dr feels the nevro 10 will work for my legs due to nerve issues. Thanks for posting your vlogs there's not much out there on this

I found it pretty uncomfortable for a while after surgery to lie on my back. It is still uncomfortable to lay on it in certain ways now. I try to put all of my weight on the opposite side of my body when lying down so that I don't feel the implant pressing against me. The months of being uncomfortable and getting used to it was worth it in the end though.

It was uncomfortable but when your surgery started healing you will be ok, my was failed because left me with my left leg in pain they damage the sciatic nerve , then I have spinal cord stimulator implanted help me with my lower back pain but not with my leg pain . Drs. Recommend acupuncture, cortisone shots, therapy, opioids, I have been thru a lot but now no more not even pain killers, just trying the best I can and live my life the best possible. Hope you are doing better. Blessings.

@@Sponkymusiclady I was offered the Boston two years ago. I turned it down due to the negative reviews I was seeing/hearing. At that time the battery didn't last that long. Nevro is suppose to last 10 yrs. Move forward to now....I have tried the Nevro with great results so I am having the permanent one put in on Monday. Definitely do your research, read all the reviews. What works for one might not work for another person.

I am on week 3 of the implant. What program and levels helped you. The trial was great. The finding the best spot since the Doctor needs to reduce my pain meds. Pressure from the State I live in new laws. I was able to do some walking outside with less pain. Yea!

missyd0g2 I’m in Tennessee my state is coming down hard on pain meds too. It’s a shame that so many people have push the government to attempt to take control. The state is trying to take medications away from people that really need it. I am so scared of another surgery but it’s coming to it. I wonder what people do that need medication for the rest of their lives are going to do. It’s a crazy world!

Hey I just got mine on Dec.28, 2018. One of my incisions is infected and I ended up with Sepsis (which is an infection in your blood). I’ve had 2 back surgeries before this and this is the most painful. I have lots of drainage and I’ve been on antibiotics because, the doctors are trying to get rid of the infections so they don’t have to take it out and start all over. I'm curious... you wrote this 2 months ago. How are you doing now? Are you having any pain relief? I'm considering doing this and like you have had several failed back surgery. I have three levels of fusions. Just curious, are you getting any help?

I'm getting my permanent implant on Monday. When I did the trial I had a problem over doing things also. I was so excited that I was pain free almost and could actually do things without hurting. I recognized that when my legs started feeling "tired/weak" I had probably done too much. Hopefully when I get the permanent implant I can be able to tell this sooner as I am a go getter and very independent. My doc says I should be able to resume normal activities between 6 and 10 weeks. Hope this helps.

Surgeons damaged my S1 and S2 nerve roots during spinal surgery ! I'm in terrible pain. Please can anyone tell my can SCS can help me ?? Lydia, 33 years old :( No pain meds can help me. (((((

I am in the process of having the "Trial Stimulator" implant of the HF10 in two weeks. However, I'm pretty nervous since my Doctor doesn't want me to hold a "Consultation Appointment" because I just saw him last week... (I've been waiting for Official Authorization from my Insurance Company for over 3 months!) The NEVRO HF10 Pamplet doesn't really explain anything, other than a "breif explanation" as to what it is, and what it is supposedly expected to do for the patient. How long did the initial "Trial Stimulator" implant surgery take? And, how long did the Permanent Stimulator Implant take? I have two Degenerative Discs in my lower back (S1-L5 & L4-L4). After MANY various Opioid, Pain Releavers, Cortisone Injections, Physical Therapy, and Nerve Carterizations (and many different doctors), I finally have a Spinal Surgeon "Pain Specialist" that is willing to give me a "glimpse of light" from this agonizing adventure since July 20, 2015... If you possibly have any recommendations for me or things to look out for, PLEASE feel free to notify me. I'm still pretty nervous, but after watching a couple Utube videos on this "type" of Stimulator, I'm not scared! Thank you, -Thomas 🤓 Port Orchard, Washington State

Can you work after having the stimulator? I been off worknfor 3 years cuz i cant stand or walk for more than 20 minutes

I had my implant in March of 2018 and I can definitely stand longer, sit longer, sleep more, since the implant. Before the stimulator I would get very anxious thinking that there may not be a place to sit. I have a Nevro HF-10. It was my third back surgery and definitely the one with the longest lasting improvements for me.

I so want to have this hf10 All this pain dr I’m seeing is want to keep doing the steroid injections which does not help me. I been in chronic pain for several years and I have not been able to walk for 3 years I want my life back and I’m thinking if this is good then it may help me Did you have to get the steroid injections before getting the stimulator?

No you do not have to get a Steroid injection before getting the SCS. I had my SCS put in Jan 10 2019. I chose the St. Jude SCS, I can still have mine on and drive. I do not feel the pulse when mine is on, only time i feel it is when the rep is tweaking my SCS. We are still working on getting it right. I had to get a SCS because of the laws now because of the Opioids. I've been on opioids for over 19 years. The government says I take too much and so they say I have to reduce my opioids to there standards. Honestly I was doing fine on them I will have to let you know how well the SCS works. My doctor was going to reduce my opioids even if I didnt get the SCS so I need to find something cause I do not want to go back to the pain level I was 19 years ago. Honestly if it wasnt for the meds I probably would have committed suicide. I was in a bad place back then, couldnt do anything, felt worthless couldnt sleep or participate in family functions, it was awful. Right now so far I'm happy with the SCS. Sorry this is so long, God bless you and I hope everything works out for you!

I have a "burst Dr neurostimulator " implanted in my back, and sadly it is implanted in the most painful part of my back. I am very unhappy with this. Ask lots of questions first

Susan Wheeler if the stimulator doesn’t work for me I will get a pain pump. The doctor suggested both. So I’m not sure how things are going to work. I’m waiting on the call.

I’m 90 pounds so I’m sure it will stick out on me. I’m actually scared about the surgery. But I been threw many surgeries

Hello, I'm looking into getting this and something you kind of touched base on in the video is what I'm worried about. Over extending doing something and messing with the leads. You said you couldn't over reach or bend for months and months. Were you able to get back to that point? Bending (carefully) and reaching for distant things? Or is it a constant issue? Thanks in advance !

I can bend and reach now. You just have to wait until enough scar tissue builds up around the leads. I was extra extra careful because I didn't want to deal with another surgery to place them again if they moved. I think they recommend 3 months? Hope this helps!

Does it have any side effects? Or can it cause problems with other unrelated conditions/illnesses? Is it a problem if you sit in a chair for a while or lay on your back given that would be pressing into it?

I haven't had any negative side effects so far besides a bit of discomfort around the pulse generator from time to time. It is uncomfortable to sit against if I am in a hard backed chair but if I add a thin seat cushion it is okay. It can be uncomfortable to lie on the side of my body that has the pulse generator implant but it is fine when I'm lying down flat on my back. I hope this helps!

Can you show your scars? Im on the fence and already have a huge scar from 2 failed back surgeries. Just wna see what it will look like.

@@jloza1175 the top scar is from the leads and the bottom left is where the stimulator is. I've also had a failed back surgery so it is understandable that you'd be a little apprehensive. The only reason I was able to mentally commit to another surgery was that I experienced relief with the trial. Good luck!

Thanks for this video but, not enough information was said about the Helix negative or positive impact had in your body! And is it stopping your pain 100%? My pain level is a 10+. What other informative talk did the psychologist said to you we should be aware off if you don't mind sharing. We who are still taking narcotic pain pills prescribed by Pain Doctor. But, what the pharmacies are doing are delaying giving the pain pills from 2 days to A week with the ugliest attitude by the pharmacist or they're aide person. The pharmacy people are putting people thru HELL JUST TO GET THEIR PAIN MEDS!! Any attitude we give them, They Black List people and we can no longer receive any pain meds from that pharmacy devils and that's how they are getting people permanently off any pain meds, they desperately need due to terrible sciatica nerve pain. And Doctors are not helping their patients as how they can get their pain meds when pharmacist no longer want to fill our pain scripts and they are black list the person from ever receiving pain meds again. We used to live in a free society now it's become more of a communist society. The Antichrist are in control of every important institution we people have need of. People you better start to wake up.
