My message to Clay Thom | My CNC Motors Story (part 5)

First off, the scratch on my chin is from my dumb cat. And thank you Dan from Normal Guy Supercar channel for spearheading all of this!
Anyways, I have some great news! I am partnering up with a local Ferrari mechanic who comes with a solid and lengthy reputation. In fact, many of you have commented about them and I went up and visited them a few weeks ago and am very impressed with the way they do business and the quality of service they provide to their customers.
In hopes of speeding up parts of the service process, I was asked to list all of what I know about the history of the car and what I think is wrong with it. Being that this is my first Ferrari, many parts of this car are still foreign to me, but I’m starting to figure out how to repeat problems. I have no idea what this is going to cost and I assume it’s not cheap. But I bought a Ferrari and want it in perfect working order as it was advertised, even if I now have to unfortunately pay to repair it, because CNC is well… not in operation. When I bought it, they said both fuel pumps were replaced and all tires and windshield wipers. Even though when I made an offer, none of that was performed until moments before I picked up the car.
When driving from Southern to Northern CA in January when I bought this, the heat exchanger cracked and then flooded my gearbox with coolant and water. It was going into neutral while in 6th gear about 15 times. The next day it was going into neutral in between all gears and was erratic. Coolant and oil were puddling up on my garage floor. From a local mechanic here who was diagnosing it (who wishes to remain anonymous), he was thinking that the gearbox needed replacing, if not a flush. He replaced a speed sensor saying that was my issue, but nope. He said the F1 reservoir was near empty. Probably from years of seeping fluid.
When CNC had it, they replaced the heat exchanger and flushed the gearbox, but still was shifting weird. The clutch has 42% left on it. But I’ve heard that they can fail as early as 70%. I don’t know the state of the transmission. The belts have a date of 2016 on them and I was told that sometimes they can sit on the shelf for a while before being installed, but I’m sure it’s getting time to replace them.
When I bought it, there were zero records that came with it. The Carfax that I purchased had some good info on where it was serviced, but nothing after 2017.
* Cigarette lighter/ash tray/ charge cable. I’d like to remove the cupholder that the previous owner installed and put back the OEM ashtray and lighter.
* Air conditioning doesn’t blow cold air.
* Center air vent is broken.
* Radio and CD changer (radio worked when I bought it, but cd changer never did and now nothing works)
* This isn’t mechanical, but it bugs me so much. Someone had some crazy rough sand paper hands and messed up the paint in the front between when I got it and all the transports it had. Very sad about this. Recommendations for paint protections welcome.
* Once about 2 weeks ago it displayed the current temperature in the gauges, but that was a one time thing. I don’t know if its always supposed to do that?
* Ive been told that this is the first gen computer which can be buggy, so maybe that’s a lot of my issues. www.ferrarichat.com/forum/thr...
* When driver side rear wheel fell off, I believe when the cars weight came down on the disc brake, it warped it. Not sure what other damage was done.
* When a fan turns on in the front driver wheel well, its hitting some electrical wires and causing some bad noises and squeaks.
* Twice while driving it, a very loud noise happens where it sounds like some mechanical pump is sucking something that isn’t there. I usually just pull over, turn the car off and wait a few minutes and then it stops.
* I often get a display with a UFO and some triangles. I believe that is a suspension sensor, or suspension is bad?
* Every now and then, I get loud beeping if I press the accelerator. I turn the car off and then it seems to go away.
* The front trunk hydraulics don’t hold the hood up
* When I start the car up, it doesn’t sound that great from what other Ferrari owners tell me
* When I shift into 2nd, if I keep accelerating, I can get it into 3rd. The second I let off the accelerator, it goes into neutral. It needs to keep revving to stay in 2nd.
* I usually can’t down shift or it goes into N.
* Ive found that most other gears seem to be reliable.
* It sometimes goes into N when reversing.
If you are owed by CNC Motors, please visit ngsc.me/cnc and fill out the form. Follow Normal Guy Supercar to watch this saga unfold. I am just one of MANY. / dbhurlbert

I would not be spending 50 cents on that car until you get your title and ownership situation resolved. Insult to injury will be spending money to fix the car to in the end you may not have. That is a possible outcome.

Well i suspect the reason you don't have your title is that clay never paid the owner of the car the money you gave him. And the owner isn't giving up that title until clay pays him. So i may not be a good idea to pay for any repairs to the car until you have the title and its transferred to you.

Clay didn't take his title. Clay never had the title, the original owner was smart and hung onto it because they haven't been paid for this car. Matt paid Clay, Clay was supposed to pay the OO and didn't so OO didn't pass the title over (because why would they?). Clay can't give him a title until the title is released and if I was the OO I wouldn't sign it over until I had my money.

Watching a guy who has zero mechanical, historical, or basic understanding of cars talk about general care and feeding of an old Ferrari is excruciating. Your clutch adaptation needs to be reset (PIS), you need to check all of your switches (such as trunk, door, brake, etc) and all of your F1 actuator sensors. And yes, you probably have a wiring fault involving temperature which a Ferrari definitely needs to know in order to operate properly. None of this is even remotely difficult. Jees man, don't even fix the F1, convert it to a gated six speed. I know a guy who sells the kit...you do too.

Sorry what's happened to you with CNC, sad for all affected in that mess. Used to work for a exotic consigner, when titles started to float beyond reason I left because CNC seems to model the usual end result of what happens to a dealer headed down that path. One bad deal after another recklessly dragging more people into their problems when they know it could just be another lawsuit for them. It's a crushed dream and financial hardship for someone else. Also in Nor Cal, not sure if there's any way I can help but would be happy to further publicize stories if it's going to indemnify those who have taken losses. Our detailer can also check out the paint and let you know what can be done if you're looking for opinions. Hopefully we see ya out on drives or at Cars & Coffee.

Hello Matt, the reason that the changer says Porsche is because Becker makes the head unit for Ferrari. Same exact head unit and changer that was in my 996. So eventually if it does not work after the code you can get a head unit from Becker (any stereo shop should have access or even eBay) and put the face panel with Ferrari on it. Funny as I remember the code was 0OOO. I wish you a lot of luck, check to make sure that Clay put in the proper battery, if the battery is not correct you can have all sorts of gremlins pop up. With Clays track record I would imagine he would put a cheap battery in it. I am with others that I would not put any money in it without the title.

You’re spending a lot of money on a car that you’re not even sure that you’re going to get the title? I get it, you want to keep a positive attitude...but from everything I’ve seen about CNC, you may need to prepare yourself that a Sherif just might show up with a warrant and take the car....someone else, just might end up owning and enjoying a car that not only you paid the original $$$ amount but all the repairs. Wait for the dust to settle, I know it sucks, but being out your original purchase is only thing..but to be out thousands for someone else to drive is only salt on an open wound.

Ok, the timing belt on the 355 is the same as the 360, yet the service interval was longer on the 355. Sure, the hp is higher in the 360 but this doesn’t explain it. My cynical view is that the timing belt replacement on the 355 was engine out while the 360 is in situ. Averaged out Ferrari are trying to keep up the maintenance costs. Another weak point is the timing belt idlers with potential bearing failure in early models. The suggestion is to replace the idlers with aftermarket Hill Engineering. With regard to clutch life, if you drive in traffic in normal mode the clutch will slip more than in sport mode. To preserve the clutch use sport mode.

I'm viewing these videos from the UK. I searched the very recent US press reports and various civil court action and police enquiries, and clearly there is something very concerning with the supplying dealer, thankfully no longer trading. Really hope you get the title: - I have no knowledge of US law but hope you don't end up losing the 360.

If the contract was revoked or outside the consignment period the sale itself is not valid and the prior owner had a claim. How’s that for an answer? We need the details of each claim then they can be judged in their merits.

why would you spend money on a car you dont own? without the title its not your car. The good news is that hearing that harness move around, all your computer shifting issues may hopefully be from a loose wire to the harness, they may just need to be reseated and the harness better secured. I hope that is the case as thats a really easy fix.

When Clay tried to steal my 2004 Gallardo, as a replacement I drove the car that is now in your possession. From the first minute in the Ferrari, it was not for me. It didn't feel right. I luckily got my car back but Clay had stolen my floor mats along with numerous Ferrari flashlights and Ferrari custom luggage from others. To replace the Lamborghini floor mats was $600.00. I got the cash from Clay after a confrontation at Clay's lot with a 6'4" 130lb 18 year old and his brother that Clay put in a bad position. Clay has no problem lying, to anyone. I've never met someone like Clay but I don't deal with people that lie and cheat for a living. I hope he finds a special friend in prison that can teach him respect and how to bend over and touch is toes.
