My MALTZILLA Grain Mill Takes 18v BATTERIES! | Ryobi, Milwaukee, Dewalt | Hops & Gnarly Home Brewery

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Can you power the Kegland Maltzilla grain mill with 18v power tool batteries? The Kegland Maltzilla grain mill is the perfect grain mill for home brewers. The Kegland Maltzilla grain mill has diamond coated rollers that can leave the entire husk intact, reduce the chance of stuck sparge, and improve efficiency. The Kegland Maltzilla grain mill has an integrated motor and a super compact form factor.
For the price I don’t think you could find anything that compares to this grain mill.
And you can’t beat the convenience of a battery powered grain mill. Move it around the brewery as needed and roll it outside to clean off the dust.
This Kegland Maltzilla grain mill project was inspired by a quick mention by The Portly Gentleman in this video: • MaltZilla Review

I love the smaller footprint of this setup. I have been using a handdrill to help crush my grains... now I see I am living in the past =)

A great idea with the Ryobi drill battery and setup with switch. I have one of these mills and they are great but do require maintenance in the way of strip down and clean every five brews, much better mill that the two and three roller especially with the built in motor. Very consistent milling and easy adjustment

Thanks for the information. I have been considering this mill and have not found much in the way of reviews. I like it’s compact size and that it can be mounted under a bench. Can you let us know what you think of it after some more use?

I've never understood the fascination with milling your own grains. Unless you buy in bulk of course. My local HBS's do a good job and so does Morebeer

Currently have a motor connected to my Barley Crusher, but I really like this idea as I already use a number of Ryobi 18v tools. How long does it take to crush a pound of grain with this setup? I’m not very happy with mine as the RPMs are lower than anticipated and it takes a while as I brew 10 gallon batches.

Nice! This was 1.5mm I think but I’m still playing around with it a bit. First brew it seemed a little over crushed so I changed it to 1.75 for next time. I think they recommend 2mm

I love it but I wouldn’t suggest it for regular batches over 5 gallons because it can be a bit slow. But the crush is perfect and the motor is super convenient

I love it! I'd recommend it for anyone brewing less than 10 gallons. The only two cons I have is that you have to stay on top of cleaning it out (good practice anyways) and it can be a little slow if you're milling a bunch of grain. For my typical 3-5 gallons its almost perfect

Still going strong and I’ve never had any issues. I think some people set the gap incorrectly and end up running into issues. I usually have mine set somewhere around 1.5mm
