    Awesome information. I just picked up an XP 15000 as my first printer. Looking forward to learning how to use it to the fullest. Also picked up some PC inks and will be giving refilling a try once my OEM inks run low. Now that I have a 13" printer... i want a 17" printer... LOL... Keeping my fingers crossed that the Pro-1000 ink monitoring project goes well... and that I get lucky and find a Canon sale in Xmass.

    Hello Jose! I am currently watching all of your videos in preparation to purchase a new printer. I really enjoy your videos as they are so very informative! I have an HP D135 that I have had for over 20 years. I disabled the clock, put resettable chips on OEM ink carts, and have been refilling them myself with (what is probably crappy) Stratitec ink for two decades. I clean the separate print heads with hot water and a paper towel, or submerge them in a glass of hot water to clear stubborn clogs. The scanner finally died and it is time for a new one. I am interested in a printer that is an all around good home printer, with only occasional photo printing. I will modify the waste ink tray to collect ink in a separate bottle. I am considering the Canon G7020 or an Epson Eco Tank. Are there any ink tank style printers you can recommend? Or are they all junk?

    Did you know that (for the Pro-100 at least), OEM ink prices out at about $4,580 per gallon?? (and we thought GAS was expensive!) If that's not a case to make someone switch to refilling, I don't know what is!

    Excellent video Jose. IMO, the best new OEM ink (non-user refill) printers are: 13" Canon PRO-200 (dye ink) Pros: low ink cost, produces some of the highest quality glossy color prints of any printer, improved paper handing Cons: B&W and matte printing require extra work to come out well Canon PRO-300 (pigment ink) Pros: low ink cost (identical per mL to PRO-200), improved paper handing, great quality all-around Cons: cleaning cycles could use up a lot of ink? Epson P700 (pigment ink) Pros: same excellent features as P900, but in smaller size, also has a non-mechanized roll adapter. Up front cost similar to PRO-300 Cons: high ink cost (80% more per mL OEM than P900), might as well just get the P900 17" Epson P900 (pigment ink) Pros: very low ink cost, supports very thick media, optional roller, new ink-repelling MicroPiezo AMC printhead, small form factor Cons: highest up front cost for the printer alone (more than the Canon PRO-1000 if subtract ink cost), sold out in United States If I had to get one right now I would get the P900, because despite its high up front cost it will do everything quite well. However I have not been able to find one in stock for over 6 months. I left off the big Canon PRO-1000 because it is over 5 years old, has expensive cleaning cycles, and only supports up to 25.5" long prints, however if you print very frequently it could be a good option too right now IMO.

    I have the P900 since a couple of weeks. Right now I’m printing about once a week. I have not made the experience that the printer has used any ink for cleaning cycles. Minimally it is not a significant amount. So totally different from my Pro-1 before. The Canon made nice prints, but ink needed for cleaning vs. print output was high for an amateur printer only printing once every week or even once every month. If the Epson will behave like this over the next couple of months, I have no problem to buy OEM inks, as they go on paper and not in the waste tank. Other observation: Many of the Pro-1 showed after some time electric ink head failures. Not sure if this is a problem of other Canons. Unfortunately I‘m not living in North America. Otherwise I would have send you my cartridges! PS: Any advice what to do with a Pro-1 with ink head failure? I have still some ink available...

  • @cheo1949

    @cheo1949

    Don't be fooled by DPI capabilities of printers. Depending on the paper coating it tends to wick those droplets so two droplets that at first had space between them disappears after they soak in and spread. Matte paper is notorious for that. Beside that so called DPI resolution is interpolated. If there are any visual differences they will disappear due to dot gain.

Both still have enough original inks in them to print a few pages. I connected both to my MBPro for test prints and luckily both are fully functional. I ordered a CCIS system and ink refills + external recycle container from eBay today for the Epson Artisan 1430 ($180), which will keep me busy to install this coming weekend, when it arrives. Profiles do not show up in the DRIVER. You access them through your editing or printing application not the driver. What have to set in the DRIVER is the EPSON paper choose the profile was made with. PC tells you what paper choice to pick in the DRIVER. Then you must set the driver color function to NO COLOR MANAGEMENT or whatever the L1900 uses to indicate it is?NOT controlling color. You set the to none then tell your editing app to Control Color and then choose the ICC profile You downloaded from PC.

    Hi, I recently purchased an XP-15000, when inspecting my prints especially in light areas of the prints, I can visibly see individual "ink droplets". I assume this is done for shading, but when looking closely at the prints it almost seems noisy in these lighter areas. Is this normal for the XP-15000? Is it a property of the Piezo printhead technology? I used to have a Pro-100 and comparing prints that are done from the same file and as close settings that I can get, show that the Pro-100 had no such "issue" so it wouldn't be a problem with my photos that I'm sending as it even comes up on printer evaluation prints? Am I looking too closely or could this be an issue with the printer? If there are any resources or information it would be very helpful. Thank you in advance.

  • @ytuberization

    Are you both comparing at highest quality settings and with the same paper and picture? XP-15000 droplet size is 1.5pl and Pro-100 is 3.0pl. So normally it should have smaller droplets. Maybe a result of only having 6-color which only allows a more visible color mixing? Just speculation...I have the new SC-P900 (1.5pl) after the Pro-1, and My observations here are the opposite.

To address the possibility of the piezo printhead having anything to do with it. Remember that droplets generated by cold firing printheads will have very nice sharp edges and heat firing produces crenated rough edges. Which may blend better.

But you do need chips to keep track of ink levels and simply so the printers know what color is what. Otherwise you could put a yellow cart in the magenta slot and not get a warning.
