    Good to have a flash cart. Every game pretty much for the console. Kinda a space saver as well. Always good to have the collection of games you like. Having complete collection is kinda dumb. Hey if you win lotto and have the space :). And bragging rights. Got a few everdrives, ended up getting the mode (good as is they stoped updating it, maybe because of the war or something.)

    When it comes to ROM hacking a CD based game, yeah, it's a pain if you're plannig on patching and burning your own discs. It's an ethical grey zone, but rather than patching a rip of your own copy of the game, you can find pre-patched disc image files online. Those work fine burned onto CDR or on ODE. You can decide the ethical difference between patching a rip of your own legit copy or downloading a pre-patched rip of someone else's copy of a game you legit own, or (since not a cent of whatever you pay for a 2nd hand Sega Saturn or PC Engine CD game will go to the actual developers) don't own.

    @@bearonguitarit comes across as a little elitist and besides, there will come a time when the hardware won't work, we've already seen the effects of CD-ROMs for the SEGA CD being constantly broken, without the Chinese market the PS1 would be in the same boat. I bet in the next few years the GameCube will be in the same position.

  • @bearonguitar

    @bearonguitar

    2 күн бұрын

    @@friedzombie4 I don't care how it comes across. It's how I played these games back when they were released and still do to this day. Anything that changes these games, other than translation hacks for foreign releases, I personally feel are messing with the feel of the games in a way that makes them feel entirely unnatural to me. A good example is Zelda OoT played at 60fps. It looks super fluid but the feel of the game gets affected in a negative way. It's the same thing with upscaling the internal resolution of games, which often results in geometry issues or effects no longer being rendered correctly. Different people are going to come to different conclusions and have different preferences, everyone can choose for themselves what they want, as there are so many different options today how retro games can be played and enjoyed. Yes, I agree. All retro hardware will eventually fail and all disc based games will eventually start to develop disc rot at some point, which is a problem since these retro consoles were built to the lowest possible cost and not necessarily with longevity in mind. This is why I'm a huge supporter of the Mister system, Analogue and FPGA gaming in general, as these devices authentically replicate a range of retro systems using what is easiest described as hardware based emulation.

    Terranigma is good, but not as good as everyone says it is, it is too cryptic to be truly great. The combat is good, the game feels good, but either the translation or story itself is pretty bad. I enjoyed it but I don't recommend it to others either, I think it should be listed lower in priority compared to other games it often gets ahead of. I like mystery and problem solving in games but if I have to pull out a guide it usually is bound to take some points off for me, the game just slightly loses playability but comes so close to great, minus the story being rather dull, the game starts strong but has you wishing it was over by the middle to end, also the Bloody Mary fight is nonsense. I would like to see a remake or something though, it is still worthy of one, just that I don't recommend it unless you have played through all the other games on the system and need something new. I also like to wrack my brain in point and click adventures, where guides are often needed inevitably at some time or other, but felt Terranigma just was a bit unfun and unfair, a good game but too much praise in my opinion. Even though the nes everdrive save state feature has time and date features, it would be pretty cool if you could rename them also, it would come in handy in so many scenarios. I don't own one but yeah I could see that being useful. I plan to get one sometime in the future, along with some of the others, and would love to have that feature, but will probably never happen. It would be really good to have the ability to rename them and share them in sets with others, for various reasons. Kind of hoping for Nintendo to create something similar one day, with social features, but licensing is always going to hold that back from reality, or give us a very limited selection of games, mediocre titles. I like the idea of reinventing the wheel in retro gaming, with something like a modern famicom disk system, with a social network built for a modern retro experience. Official translations, mods, challenges, etc, a little like retroarch. Obviously not trying to replace the everdrive or similar items, just something like a modern retro system, it would never have the same freedom of those devices for too many reasons. It could work and I am thinking distantly from the recently released products, although there would not be enough demand, interest, and might be better implemented into a current console or the ability to share functionality between both, it might just be too late for such an idea to flourish. Something I would like to see though, with events, tournaments, rewards, etc. With something like that it keeps you talking, wondering what is next, there is still plenty of life in those old games, for veterans and newcomers alike, I like the social aspect of it. conversation. Obviously Nintendo is the only company capable of such a grand vision, retro games have those abilities, being the nature they are. The device would not be so much as emulation but would act very much like it layering on features commonly found within emulators, paying would still be likely but at lower costs, with free stuff to be had. It would cross many systems, and be more organized such as an emulator would do, most modern collections, remakes, mess this up often. Simplistic menus, navigation, overlays, but quirky and fun. I like the thought of being able to sign up for tournaments, for games, or special invite tournaments for top players, revisions of older games in competitive form, for sport and reward, obviously a point system implemented, stuff we have all seen before but in a complete package, something significant, social, geared towards events to set your calendar and practice for, but still being more than that, having a soul you could say. The ability to create your own tournaments, and groups outside of official events would be notable also, a good way to rerelease older games with added functionality too, free updates to games are a must, obviously the option to host games, in a way other players can choose to play with you, kind of like waving in a sense. I like the idea of having modes per game such as pure or emulation mode, that removes save states, cheats, etc, just to keep everything fair and balanced in the social sphere. Those features should still be available though but not be counted for as significant. With each game you should also be able to choose between playing the original or a revision, and the option to choose between event editions to play on also, such as you would have in a tournament cart, but the great thing being that the classic games can be retuned and updated, made new. I had the Sega Channel for a brief time growing up, and it never left me, something I never wanted to lose. I want to kind of reinvent that feeling again, just better, more modern, new.

    my admittedly cryptic choice of words was referring to the fact that there are flash cards for old consoles to be had besides the ones shown in this video. And actually not just old consoles, but current ones like the new Mig Switch for the Switch, which also enables a lot of retro gaming and emulation on that (at least already ageing) handheld. Or maybe SD2SP2 (plus Swiss) along with PicoBoot for the Gamecube and so on and so forth.
