When you guys do the oil change at 4.4 quarts do you guys top off after you start the car and the oil filter fills up? I do my own oil changes even on my new cars but I’m curious because the owners manual does give a capacity but it’s never that straightforward when filling.
Nice man, was a porter for 6 months and moved to express. Was a lube tech for 1.5 years. Then went to used cars for 3 months then to the line.

Get out while you can off this trade. I've been doing this five years. There's no future as long as flat rate exists. I've got out and now making much more with weekends off, full benefits. We, mechanics need workers unions, if not get out.. Lube techs, whatever dealership they work will never get paid more than 15, or lucky if getting 19 per hour. There's no garantee when working flat rate you will make 40 hours. Warrantee work pays shit. Get into a dfferent trade, electrician, or even a course in electronic engineering or electrical engineering. The only reason why I worked as a mechanic for 5 years it was only hourly and always wage per hour higher than the previous job. As a flat rate tech, you may get shitty jobs while advisers give out the gravy to their "favorites" mechanics. You literally will depend on the foreman, or service advisor who must sell the iob so you can make decent money. You have no control over your work. There's a study done which proves mechanics are leaving in droves this trade and dealerships and independent shops are struggling to find qualified mechanics. But these bastards don't wanna pay a living wage and yet, they bitch and complain about the lack of qualified technicians. Not to mention, most mechanics are up to their eye balls in debt, spending thousands of dollars in new tools just to keep up with new technologies. Even worse, as electric vehicles are now taking over, making it more difficult to us.

That really sucks because I've been doing some jobs myself (the easier more common ones like suspension, brakes, engine mounts, hoses, engine accessories and fluid flushes) just to save money but unless I was a master tech with 10 years experience I may not make enough money to get by, as you said. I'm just having a hard time understanding this because I see all the local shops and dealerships are constantly busy with full bays. Are they trying to treat this entire industry like it's nothing more than a minimum wage burger flipping job for teenagers who live at home? Is that really what we've come to? Also, with the exception of the electrical trades, I see every other blue collar field being notoriously underpaid especially truck drivers. I just don't get anymore.
Congratulations 🎉

what are the interview questions and what are the qualities they are looking for because I’m really trying to get into this industry and I feel like a Honda would be a good place to start

I will most likely do an interview question video soon since I've been getting asked this a lot. If I were to tell you in once sentence, have common sense and you will be fine. be aware of your surroundings.
What’s up bro loved the video I am currently going to college for automotive technology, my plan is to become a lube tech then promoting to flats rate line tech just like you! My school offers the Honda pact program as well , my question is how much were you making an hour as a line tech?

The idiots at a local Toyota Express Oil Change over filled my wife's 2020 Camry SE 3 and a half qrts over what it took. I no longer trust anyone to do my oil changes I do them myself now. Just as bad as Wal-Mart centers. Hope you guys do better than they do. They did make it right by checking all the seals and areas that could have been damaged from the over fill and they took my advice on making it to where they have to show the customer the dipstick showing the correct oil, level to avoid that happening to somebody else. Good luck on your future endeavers!
Hey man , any advice I’m a lube tech as well for Honda and still trying to prove myself at my job been a porter and now a lube tech for 2 months now any advice will be appreciated the only thing I’m having a hard time with is remembering the oil capacity for each car lol

I usually do 3.5L, and check dip stick before adding more. Be careful of the honda fits, other than that on most of them this works.

Congrats man. Hopefully they pay. I’ve head mechanics are quitting in 2024 from unfair pay or warranty pay which is garbage. People definitely need better pay. Hopefully they raise the minimum wage.

I’m making a decent amount as a flat rate mechanic. Also this is more of a side income, I have a small business as my main source of income
A whole whopping 0.2 hours for an oil change. That is below the 0.3 hr at an Indiana dealership back in 2006.
I have a question for you, Sebastian. How much money do you earn an hour as a lube tech (express lube tech) in Honda?

@2zzlow Thank you, because I want to start as an oil change tech, here in Charlotte North Carolina in a Honda dealership.
Wait wait. Why put 5 20 oil on an old car?? It was 5 20 when it was brand new but theses engines burn oil quick, owning a 8th gen accord and crosstour wiith the same 4cyl i put 10 40. Is that just dealer standard lol?
i came up from being a lube tech 8 years ago. now i can replace an engine in 3 hours. you really can work your way up to 100k a year if you really want to. when you get pissed off at the bullshit, take a breather, step away then get back to it

If you want to get a lot of comments? Say something wrong! The best pay for flat rate is Master Diagnostic Technician and the 2/4 wheel chassis and alignment guy.
