My Languages Day VLOG in Tbilisi // Learning Georgian and finding home as a Russian immigrant

I've been feeling out of place in Georgia as a Russian immigrant. I don't feel connected to the Georgian culture, I don't speak the language, I don't have local friends and my life revolves mostly around other Russian expats. But recently I decided to change that, so I went to Georgian classes (again) and I started learning German at the same time because why not. So in this video I will share with you my impressions from these classes, show you my favorite Russian-activities places and explore the yards of Tbilisi. I hope you find this vlog interesting!

The sign of a great storyteller… you frequently find things on your walks that speak for themselves, no commentary needed. Like the chair chained to the tree or the woman telling you to leave. It’s great how you include these things but don’t feel the need to speak to them. Great video. Thanks.

@@NatashasAdventures it was nice to see you talking in your mother tongue, although, i am used to see you speaking English, but, ofcourse, that episode was dubbed so Latvians can understand 😊 well, many Latvians understand Russian, but not my generation. My Russian is so bad because i slept during Russian classes in school. Yes, in Latvia we learn 3 languages - Latvian, English and Russian or you can choose German. I couldn't chose German because i lived in a small village. Okay, enough of over sharing😅

By the way, my current levels are... - upper intermediate level in Old Norse / Icelandic / German - writer level in English + native speaker level in Spanish - upper advanced level in Dutch + advanced level in Norwegian - intermediate level in Swedish / Portuguese / French / Italian / Welsh - beginner level in Breton / Hungarian / Gothic / Latin / Faroese / Galician / Danish / Slovene - total beginner in Cornish / Manx / Irish / Scottish Gaelic / Aranese / Elfdalian / Gallo / Limburgish / Occitan / Luxembourgish / Catalan / Urkers / Hunsrik / East Norse / Ruhrpöttisch / Alemannic / Ripuarian / Swiss German / Pälzische Deutsch / Austrian German / Waddisch / Palatine German / Westföälsk Sassisk / Austro-Bavarian / PlatDeitsch / Greenlandic Norse / Friulian / Pretarolo / Sardinian / Neapolitan / Sicilian / Venetian / Esperanto / Walloon / Ladin / Guernsey / Norn / Burgundian / Sognamål / West Frisian / North Frisian / East Frisian / Yiddish / Afrikaans / Finnish / Latvian / Estonian etc (and the other languages based on Dutch / German / Norwegian / Italian / French that are referred to as ‘dialects’ but are usually a different language with different spelling etc) (I highly recommend learning Dutch / Icelandic + Norse + Faroese / Norwegian as they are so magical, as pretty / refined / poetic as English - all other Germanic and the other pretty languages on my list are also gorgeous, so they are all a great option!)

Hi Natasha interesting video, regarding the number quoted by yourself of 100,000 this was in the first few months of relocating, official numbers quoted on Georgian tv are now at 1.2 million and native Georgians are at about 4 million so over a quarter of Georgia's population are from Russia!

Thanks for posting. The walking meditation on the city reminded me of some of your old videos from your home region. I love your eye for detail, your sense of irony, and your kindness to animals - and your analysis of the places you go and your place in them. I encouraged you to take the Georgian-language class in another comment, and did so for exactly the reasons you cited in this video. Connecting with the place through the language, interacting with people while you learn, and keeping your mind active with work on achievable goals are all good things - and adding German classes doesn't hurt at all. So it seems you are making progress already with Georgian, which will only improve with time, opening more possibilities for enriching your time in Georgia. Whether that turns out to be a long or short time really doesn't matter right now - you have to make a good life wherever it is you live. Do what you can manage with the videos without worrying too much about a rigorous schedule. I am interested in knowing what life is like in Georgia, but I also enjoy hearing your views on society in general through the lenses of your experiences with social issues in Russia and in Georgia (and other places). You have said those sorts of ideas require more scriptwriting, but you are well capable of doing such things, and you have done some of this sort of work in the not-distant past. I am happy to watch those types of videos too. Be well, and keep us in mind when you feel alone. There are a lot of us here for you.

Georgian language sounds good to my years and the writing is the most aesthetic, my opinion. Your future plans may not include Georgia, but for the moment it is a country where you were able to live, relatively quietly from what I see, so it may be part of you forever, so it is good to learn the language.

The quick cut to the squirrel in the tree was classic, wasn't it? It made me laugh. I'm glad to see that other people appreciate the artistry and humor in Natasha's videos, and that the little creative sparks she inserts get noticed. As you point out, they've been there since her earliest appearances on KZread. I admire the way she's able to present these funny little snippits and fleeting observations in a way that makes them seem like tiny gifts, just for us. And she gives them so freely and in such an unassuming way. That's one of the things that first drew me to her videos. It's also why I'm always so happy to see a notification pop up announcing that she's published a new one.

The skill of learning to find happiness in difficult circumstances is one of the greatest skills that life can teach you. I know it's hard to see others moving out of Georgia, but I love the way that you remind yourself that there are people who have it much harder, and that even though it's difficult for you now, it could be worse and that you are lucky to have what you do. You should be very proud of yourself for the good person that you are. Times will change, and you will be richer for the lifelong skills that you gained through this hard time. Good to see that you are doing ok. You keep yourself occupied, and learning is really the best way to do that. You are not only learning two new languages, but also a new writing system, apart from the two you already learned. That makes it so much harder! It also struck me how different you and Roman (NFKRZ) are experiencing your stay in Georgia and how you personally deal with the hardship of having to leave Russia. I can see where Roman is coming from, but I think learning the language, do community work, enjoy nature, etc. like you do is really the best way and will keep you sane through it all. I wish all the best to Roman but seeing you and the way you cope gives me hope for people in the Russian exodus. You are stronger than you realize. Best to you to from a long time follower and patron.

It's good to see you back. This is one of the first recent videos where we see, I won't say "the old Natasha", but what made all of your Russian ones so fascinating. This was the spontaneity and freshness (and quiet humility), the way you centred it on your own life and personal experiences, while at the same time distancing yourself from them. Above all, as others have noted, your abiility to just pick out something that silently creates an image that says so much more than words, allowing each viewer to make their own impressions, as though we were on that walk with you. Please more of these, and as often as you can find the inspiration.

The Georgian script is relatively unique. It's one thing to learn another language but then to also learn a new script can be quite challenging. Learning German may help in your European ambitions, but don't let your English fall too far behind. As you know, English is spoken, or at least understood, in many countries and this can be an advantage. Keep up your English videos. We will nudge your language along. All the Best.

I have missed you & you vlogging. I can’t believe that besides learning Georgian that you are also learning German. On top of that you speak English too! As an American I tried to learn French in High School - but it was hard. I have been to France, Belgium, Quebec (Montreal and Quebec City) but luckily I got by.

It's nice to see you again, Natasha! Your English is fine, and I enjoyed viewing the back streets of Tblisi with you. Though someone did not like you filming in their area, the same thing happens in America. I have been taking photos for years, and sometimes people have gotten mad at me for being in their area. Maybe they think I'm from the government. Take your time making videos; concentrate on your studies. You're such a likeable person, I'm sure you'll make more friends.

I'm French-Canadian and my first language is French but I work in English, from home without speaking to anyone for days, I watch KZread mostly in English etc. I took a temporary job outside at the winter carnival greeting people (pays less but gets me out of the house and I felt like I had lost my French LOL. Don't worry your English will come back running 😊

Natasha, so good to hear/see you again! You have such courage and fortitude and we admire the heck out of you! Life must be so hard, but you never give up! Congratulations and very best wished from England! And by the way, your English vocabulary and grammar would put many native born English people to shame!

What I love about your videos is they are educational. Your high level of intelligence gives me confidence that you are a good source of information about these places you live at or visit. I most likely will never be going to these places for various reasons. So it's great to listen to you and enjoy your videos.

I always like watching virtual tours of interesting places. I like seeing food & drinks from other countries, too. If you know how to make any interesting dishes, I'd like to see that, too. I made borscht, but, as an American, I made it the easy way in 2 hours in an Instapot. It didn't come out very good. I have never eaten anything with beets that I ever liked. It always tastes like some small amount of dirt got spilled into the soup.

Greetings from 🇩🇪. I am happy to hear that you are studying German language, too. Germany is experiencing a labor shortage. Being such a good and intelligent human being as you are you would have a good chance to get a German visa for study or work.

It is nice seeing you back. You are a very brave person to leave Russia and go into such a different world because of what is happening in your old home. As for what to do in your videos, this one was nice. Just walking around like this and showing us different parts of the city and area will be fine by me. We have a saying here in Canada and the USA. "You just do you". I hope you find your real forever home soon, where you can stay permanently and fit in. I had not realized that the Georgian language was so different from everything else. Best wishes.
